Encouraging NSV: What's a "normal" portion size?
gamergirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have a friend visiting and he's very intrigued by our tiny portion sizes. He just can't get over it. Unfortunately the poor man is also probably starving. We think we're making him a huge portion--and compared to our food we are--but I suspect it is not nearly enough. After lunch yesterday, I offered to make him a peanut butter sandwich, and he didn't say no. Oops. Funny how quickly we forget what a normal portion size looks like. I mean, we've all eaten normal-to-large portion sizes all our lives! I'm very encouraged to see that even as early as 7 weeks post-op, we're now clueless as to what a normal portion size for an unsleeved person looks like. I can however, cast a critical eye over my husband's plate and know that he's put more than 4 oz on his plate, that he won't finish it, that he will be uncomfortable afterwards and will complain My own two ounce portion is getting equally easy to judge. For all those wondering if you'll be able to reduce your eating, I hope this is encouraging to see how quickly our bodies, minds, and eyes adapt to our new reality. Our new reality now is what our sleeve holds. I still measure and weigh every meal, but I'm learning fast. Love my sleeve. <3 -

I didn't realize they had a second kind of bar. That might be worth trying. Thanks for the suggestion! Like you, I only use bars in an emergency and it's usually when I'm traveling or visiting clients etc. -

You know how I solved that was I got 500 mg pills instead of the 1300 I was taking. The pills are nice and small and they go down easy, and I just take two instead of one and call it a day.

I don't care for really any of the thanksgiving food except the pie so I might have a few bites of that and call it a day too. -

On holiday in the USA recommend me food products
gamergirl replied to lubelu's topic in Food and Nutrition
I use a half sachet is almost 20 oz of water. It is indeed way too sweet otherwise. Mio drops are also good for flavoring water. As to the rest of it, my preference is to eat real food rather than packaged so I may not be of much help here. But Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, ground beef, fish like tilapia, salmon cod, shrimp (prawns), scallops, etc are all good options. -

Okay, it's happening. Watching restaurant serving sizes is making me angry. Who could possibly have eaten all this much food for Breakfast? Even pre-sleeve, I know I couldn't have finished a third of it. Kind of makes me angry now how every restaurant in this country appears to be doing its part to make us overweight. I ordered 2 eggs with ham. See what I got? Way more than 2 eggs, a thick chunk of ham, hash browns and toast. See what I was able to eat? All the rest will go down the trash. What a waste.

Anyone else? Can not stomach protein shakes all of a sudden....
gamergirl replied to stephrod06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of you lactose Intolerant people, I have a simple solution for you. Go get some lactaid pills at the store, and take two along with your first sip of the shake, and you should be good to go. I've been lactose intolerant for years and this is what I do. It works. -

I continue to be amazed at how little we need to eat to survive. How are we not completely malnourished?! -
