Looking for DFW area folks for clothes...
gamergirl replied to Zakura7477's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used the "search" function at the top of this page, and found all these DFW area topics. One of them might be able to help you: http://www.bariatricpal.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1 HTH -

Hi there! there's actually a dfw sleevers group here somewhere in the regional forums. You might have better luck posting this there. I'll try to find the link for you. -
LOL....I think thats a fine goal. Also....there's a C25K thread. If you can read it from start to finish before the end of January you get a free santa running beard.....almost new. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/239489-started-couch-to-5k-today-anyone-keen/ Deal! Only if I get the hat that goes with it! he wore that hat while running a half-marathon you know. probably can't even wash it afterwards. I don't know.....

Like so. See the advanced tab to the right? I get this when I hit reply to a post or when I start a post. -

I do it from the app by clicking on the Advanced tab on the right of the post. From there, it gives you an option to attach a picture from the camera. -
What new habits are you trying to build?
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have seen a few people talk about planning for a late night snack. I think that's a great way to get around it. If we know we are going to snack at night, let's plan for it. Eat less for lunch or skip an afternoon snack. It makes sense to me that we'd be hungry at night if we eat at 6. By 1030 or 11 it's been a long time since we've eaten! I plan for the evening Snacks. I leave enough calories for snacks usually a cup of popcorn and a Protein shake or a protein pudding. But I am still trying to finish eating by 8 pm anyway. -
My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mmm I need to learn how you made the coconut shrimp! Looks so good. I forgot to post but had tilapia with tortilla lime crust and steamed cauliflower. -
Me too! I used to eat nothing but chicken breast and now I'm so afraid to try it plain. I can so it when it's mixed and shredded with the dark meat from the crockpot, but nol I get on it's own.

Mfp settings for carbs protein and fat please...
gamergirl replied to Bombs's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yes correct. I'm not working out very much at all but I do work 18+ hour days on that same diet with lots of travel and meetings and seem to do okay with it now. -
Hit my goal... feeling slightly underwhelmed ...
gamergirl replied to Indigo1991's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Exactly! I feel like some of you here understand me so well and like me anyway I feel blessed and very lucky to have found you guys. RJ you are dead on about me being an overachiever. I'm trying to focus more on the journey than the goal for once. -
Mfp settings for carbs protein and fat please...
gamergirl replied to Bombs's topic in Food and Nutrition
No no my protein and fat percentages are equal. Carbs are half that. At 800 calories it amounts to about 70 protein I think? 36 fat and 40 carbs. I'm doing this from memory so I could be wrong on the gms but not on the percentages. At first when I restricted carbs I felt absolutely horrid. Slowly I got used to it. Once in a while I'd I feel really tired, I'll have a few Beans or shall a small baked sweet potato. But it's not too bad at 40-50 carbs. -
Hit my goal... feeling slightly underwhelmed ...

Your explanation did help. The bit about living in color did make sense Perhaps it's like waiting to exhale. You arrive and finally feel like you let go with an exhale. I'm so so very happy for you. You've earned it. -
Agree. I also make a very moist chicken in the crockpot that is so easy but it is even more moist than the rotisserie. Cut up an onion and place at the bottom of the crockpot. Put a whole chicken in or put pieces in, either seasoned or not, as you prefer. Shut the crockpot and cook (no need to add water) for four hours on high or 8 hours on low. the chicken falls off the bone and there's so much "juice" in the crockpot that you can use to keep it moist, or make a sauce etc out of the broth. We are able to eat that pretty easily and it shreds almost too well.

Hit my goal... feeling slightly underwhelmed ...
gamergirl replied to Indigo1991's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This post was wonderful on so many levels. Most importantly, because you reached goal! Yay for that! and yes your garbage bin story is etched into my visual memory as well. it was such a cute story. I also found your post spoke to me a lot not just because all your posts generally do but also because I've been trying to get into this mind set where I recognize that it is not all about reaching goal. I'm not sure that any of my current life will change when I am at goal will it? I mean, I have 25-30 lbs to go, but that's not going to change anything major. My life will still be the same as it is today (I hope so anyway, I love my life). But really I'll still be eating the same foods, still be monitoring my Water, still taking my supplements, still being vigilant...just as I have to be now. At least that's what I assume happens? Am I right? Nothing really changes except we now have to maintain for the rest of our lives, which seems to involve the same behaviors as we are engaged in today. So then I'm not sure why all of us are in such a hurry to get to our goals. I know I am in an unreasonable hurry but I'm not sure why! Anyway, I'm probably rambling and making no sense, but what i mean is, good for you! and thank you for sharing! -
Tell you what, I didn't even have pots and pans small enough to cook what we eat! I make two little chicken thighs, and we get four meals out of them. I make 1 lb of ground beef, and we eat it for four meals. it's crazy. I'd strongly suggest you shred the chicken in a food processor or a kitchenaid bowl, and add mayo to it before you try it the first time or something else with fat in it to moisten it. It will go down much easier

What's weird is that I had the meat of a whole small skinless chicken thigh yesterday, which was about two ounces. Today it was the frozen fully cooked diced chicken breast that I cooked in a little broth so it was moist. It was my first time eating green Beans, but I sautéed them to death with onions, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. I don't know. The other weird thing is though that my restriction varies from day to day. The last few days, I've been able to eat just fine but my husband can't eat much of ANYTHING without it going thunk. It's very confusing some days.

That was such a lovely post! I am glad you enjoyed your time here and agree on the speed limit, though our roads are not the best and our road toll is shockingly high. I have been to Texas (Houston) and absolutely loved my time there though it is so very different to home. I love the lush products, though I discovered them in London! I too discovered Lush in London in a train station somewhere. I was an avid devotee until I realized the bar shampoos, which I still adore, make your hair color run faster than a cheetah. After spending hours in a chair to get my jet black hair lightened to a brown, I can't take that risk But rewarding with things other than food is a big one. I'm interested to see how many of us said "no late night snacking" as a habit we're trying to break. Wonder why so many of us struggle with that? -
You know what? get online first and make a list of the teas that are on sale, print it out and then go if you can. It's VERY confusing in the store right now because everything is on sale etc. and it's very crowded. I ended up buying very expensive teas, wasn't sure what was on sale, couldn't figure out if there was caffeine or not, total confusion. Today I had to order another set for my son, and it was so much more reasonable to look at their very beautifully designed site, and pick a list of caffeine free stuff on sale. That way you at least know what to ask for in the store.

Oh hey, if you like pudding, check out my high protein pudding recipes. We've had pistachio, butterscotch, lemon, Peanut Butter, and chocolate ones every night since we first made those. So. Yummy!

omg, ours was the Maharaja Masala Chai. The prices are absolutely daylight robbery and I am being a cheapie and making multiple pots of tea with 2 little tablespoons and they're all yummy.

Science of why and how the pouch / sleeve works
gamergirl replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dr. Sharma recently had an article on that. I think I posted a redacted version or a summary somewhere. I think the basics of the reasoning are thus: Losing weight changes certain health-related outcomes. Other research has shown that these health-related outcomes are strongly linked to premature death. While the relationship between losing weight and a direct reduction in premature death have not been established, I think from a lay person's perspective, looking at diabetes, Metabolic syndrome etc. as the proverbial "canary in the coal mine" that precedes premature death, it's a reasonable enough extrapolation to think WLS helps you delay premature death. -
Many of us seem to have trouble with Water. Pretty sad right? I'm hoping it gets better over time, I know I've read it did for some people. Someone said something about the surface tension of water not sitting well with the sleeve and how putting crystal lite etc cut it down a bit. But I do understand the artificial sweetener issue you raise. So my latest discovery in this is regard is Teavana teas, but I am sure any caffeine free tea will do the same. They are naturally flavorful, and my sleeve still deals better with warm liquids than cold ones, always has. My husband's sleeve is the opposite, so you may have to play with iced or hot teas. But that may be something to try. I also have good luck with Propel zero and G2.

If I had to guess based on my experience? It's the chicken. 5 months out, my husband and I still have great restriction with chicken, as in almost too much. We can barely get in a few bites before---thunk! The moister it is, the more shredded it is, the better off we are with it, but it's really difficult for us. I think many people find one or two "thunkers" like that.

What my husband says about me & my sleeve
gamergirl replied to McButterpants's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My husband and I met on an online forum called completely stupid conversations I was attracted to his posts long before I knew what he looked like but we ended up talking on the phone one day--and the conversation lasted 8 hours. The first time we met was at the airport, but we had phoned, texted, skyped before then. Got so lucky! -
Well I got told today that I was pre-menopausal and while I'm okay with no .s as RJ so cutely calls them, I do wish the actual menopause waits until my saggy skin tightens up a bit! Of course part of my mind was going "Me? pre-menopausal? when did I get this old?" and the other part of my mind is singing "yay! no .s!"
