    Telling youu kids...

I thought about the same things you have ,so I told my children I was having hiatal hernia surgery which was partially true because they did fix that while they were in there ,but to this day they still don't know almost 2 years later. They assume all the weight was lost due to small portions, moving more and wanting to be healthier and I try to teach them the same...it's all about being healthy. Wrong or right this has worked for me . Best of luck on your decision & your surgery
  2. Great video I usually don't watch videos but your wonderful personality & smile pulled me in and I watched the whole thing. Great job and wishing you much success!

    Seltzer

My surgery was July 2013 I have been using ibupropfen almost daily since 4 weeks after surgery,my surgeon knows and said liquid is better then pills but if I take pills (I take pills ) try to take with food and drink so it doesn't sit on your stomach lining. But this is from my medical team...you may want to check with your own m.d. Best of luck with your decisions!
  4. Good job! Wishing you all the best! We are all here to support each other.
  5. When this subject was initiated on this thread she asked the opinion of other people so there's many different opinions on the subject. First of all the writer has a BMI of 29 which is in the overweight range she needs to lose approximately 25 to 30 pounds to get into the normal range her GOAL is 50 pounds. But setting that goal doesn't mean that's what she needs to lose to get into the normal healthy range. Most people on this site have been either been mostly Morbidly obese or obese, so when someone asked a opinion on this procedure and you add in possible side effects and how much of a lifestyle change it is I think that's why you get such a radical surprise answer from some people on someone considering such a drastic procedure for not having to lose that much weight. I believe that is why the medical community came up with the parameters they did regarding a BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbidities because this surgery is to save someone's health,or life from a early demise. Best of luck to the writer on going the weight watchers route!
  6. You only need to lose like 15 pounds and you want to consider weight loss surgery?? I feel that Is WAY to extreme...I pray & would be thrilled to ever get down to a 30 BMI . Lap- band is invasive and like the other member said it has its own list of problems. Your insurance will cover this? These surgeries are extreme measures to lose weight that is why they feel your BMI should be over 40 or 35 with certain pre-existing medical conditions.
  7. Omg that is a low BMI I am surprised a Md would do that surgery with a BMI that low. Why is it you want gastric surgery being so thin? You can have hernia repair without having the sleeve. Best of luck

    New sleeve patient

Everyday it gets MUCH better! Sounds like you are doing great! I have severe osteoarthritis and just had my Lt hip replaced 7 weeks ago and having the other one done in 2 weeks & have have been taking Motrin since 3-4 weeks post op sleeve surgery (that was almost 2 yrs ago )with no problems . A lot of people say you can't drink coffe or take Motrin after having the sleeve but I have been with no issues and my doctor knows this,he just suggests that Motrin be liquid just so it doesn't sit in pill form in a empty stomach possibly causing a problem. I do take pill form because my dose is high and I just try to drink and eat with it so my tummy is not empty. I hope your arthritis gets alittle better as you lose weight and you just do what you can. I really did no exercise because my hips were sooo bad and just watching what I ate and did my normal everyday activities ( I have small children) I have lost over 100 pounds. I wish you much success
  9. Wishing you all the best for a wonderful healthy, happy future!

    What have I done?

I think most regret at the beginning but as things calm down and your stomach heals things get much better the first couple months take getting used to all the changes, but in the end you will love that you did it! Best of luck..you will do great!

    Caffeine?

I was told no Motrin and no caffeine but then told after stomach healed caffeine was ok but not in excess and told if I need Motrin just to take it with food and drink so it won't sit on stomach lining and cause a issue...they like liquid Motrin better if you take it. Anyways I drink 2 cups of coffee a day along with Motrin daily for some osteoarthritis issues my surgeon is aware said should not be a problem just don't do in excess. Almost 2 years since surgery and no problems...I think doctors error on the side of caution d/t your stomach is tiny now and they don't want chance hurting any part of what is left.

    esophegeal strticure

I have a stricture that has been stretched twice in my life also a hiatal hernia I never noticed that much reflex or heartburn but I was told that's what causes a stricture, my surgeon told me that people with reflux can sometimes have issues after a sleeve but he rarely seen it and if it is bad Pepcid or Prilosec usually keeps it in check. I choose the sleeve and never had a problem! It has been 18 months since my sleeve, Also I was told if I have the sleeve and after the reflux was horrid and I couldn't take even with meds they can go back and convert to a bypass. But not a issue.

    Help please!

My surgeon used a bigger one it was either a 38 or a 40 and I have lost so far 130lbs. The bigger one is also better for acid reflex. Good luck!

    Introduction

We have all been we're you are the first 2 weeks are a struggle & at the very first days after surgery I kept saying to my husband why did I do this...I should not have done this... Those first days of those tiny sips thinking ..really? But it keeps getting easier and better! You will slowly get better at drinking and getting your protein in. It takes getting used to but it happens. I remember thinking OMG I will never be able to chug down a glass of cold lemon water again which was my favorite, but now I can drink quickly about 1/2 glass...so I am happy with that ! Trust us it all gets better & you probley will be able to eat just about everything again but with much better moderation. Me & about 99% of people on here would agree it's the best thing we ever did for ourselves & our health! Best of luck to you ! You will do great!

    Bad knees

I can understand what you are going through. I have a significant pain in both my hips in the past couple years I have had Cortisone injections and gel injections and it has not helped. Two years ago they said the next step would have to be hip replacements so this was a big reason why I had VSG done almost a year ago. It has been almost a year since VSG and have a last almost 100 pounds but NO pain relief! I have constant pain day and night even with all my pain meds my quality of life has deteriorated significantly and I know my next step has to be the surgery but I am very nervous to have it. But years of being a nurse and obese this is what has happened ...just Very nervous to have this huge surgery.
  20. I agree with your thoughts and I am wishing you a blessed surgery, good luck & much success!
