I LOVE you Gamergirl !! - that was what i needed to hear - thank you !! -
Okay, I've got a silly question - when I think of an extension cord I think of those great big heavy things in the garage - where do I get an extension cord from for my tablet etc ?

I'm going alone this weekend (4th October and surgery is 5th) but I have found 3 sleeve sisters all going at the same time and you can too. Start a thread looking for buddies going around your dates. You'll really feel better having some company but everyone is correct you will be fine !!
-
The very first place you want to try is your credit union or bank - personal line of credit or loan - these will usually be the lowest interest rates. Mexico is the cheapest place - I'm headed there on the weekend to a good surgeon so keep an open mind on other places. Good luck to you !!

First dream/fantasy of life post op

Nothing would surprise me, my brain has been doing some very weird things to me too and I haven't had my surgery yet. I lost my appetite, then have these split second "senior moments" when in my closet I think that certain small size jeans will fit me - then i remember I'm not sleeved yet - this is all for real I swear and it's baffling me, so in short, yes, your brain does some interesting things. But you are on your way, lots for you to look forward to now !! -
I love masala curry - anyone vegetarian can always substitute meats with chick peas or squash (squash by the way with it's natural sweetness is wonderful) but masala base works with a lot of veggies.

Put your thinking caps on cos this is a doozy

As some of you already know - my surgery date is October 5th in Tijuana with Dr Illan. I plan to start my pre op diet Sunday. Approximately 10-12 days ago I started experiencing some really unusual stuff. First and foremost, my appetite has gone, poof - outta there - disappeared. This is HIGHLY unusual - I am an emotional eater so you would think pre op stress - eat eat eat - but no, I get up in the morning, not hungry, lunch, not hungry and on and on. I cooked myself my fave meal (curry) I did not eat any of it - packed into a rubbermaid and in the fridge, simply not interested. I also have an unopened bag of Kit Kat chocolate in the fridge keeping the curry company. This is utterly baffling to me - believe me, I am not consciously doing anything to be like this. While I'm confessing to weird behavior, here's one more thing - when I go to my closet, I have a split second of thinking that one of my smaller pairs of jeans will fit me (as if I have already had the surgery) no kidding - I know that's odd isn't it. Has anyone had any of these weird things happen to them pre op ? -

Surgery a week away, having second thoughts! Help...

Well said - couldn't agree more - There isn't a person alive that could either guilt or talk me out of it. I know that some opposition is borne out of concern and love but oh boy until they are in my skin they simply will not know what it's like. I told only one friend who I knew would not oppose it and of course my husband but no one else. Then there are the friends who are utterly clueless - I was out with a group of pals a couple of months ago - we all got chatting about weight as a few of them are pretty husky too so I put my two cents worth in and said how I couldn't find anything to wear for today because I'm so bloody fat, to which one of my friends replied loudly - "but you're happy though aren;t you" - I was mortified !! how on earth can this otherwise well educated woman actually think that I am happy like this ?? - good grief, nothing fits me, I ache all over, I'm miserable and yet this seems to have completely gone over her head so I can only imagine what her reaction would have been had I chosen to announce that I was having wls in Mexico soon !! - no I choose to keep it quiet. !! -

Yes it's super hard if you don't have the support of family or friends or both. But you will see a lot of us have chosen not to share our choice with friends or family because we know the response might not be supportive. But wls is such a deeply personal choice and anyone not going through it cannot begin to understand what it means to us. You do have a lot of support here, have you for some sleeve buddies who are having surgery the same time ? that always is really helpful and find a local group from this forum and you can meet up every month and have a chat and share stories !! where are you having surgery ?? -

You know, you are SO NOT alone - my surgery is a week from this Saturday. Leading up to this I must have thought about canceling a hundred times and thought EXACTLY what you thought - I could maybe do this myself yada yada. I'm going to tell you what worked for me and maybe this will for you too. I started to imagine that weight loss surgery did not exist, had never been invented and therefore was not even an option, if that was the case then what does my future look like ? - all i have left is a series of diets, pills, programs, disappointments and illness as I get bigger and bigger. I canot and would not ever speak for you but for me, I'm "dieted out" I have tried and failed over and over. When I thought about that I realized that I really did want to do this and in fact I was looking forward to it more than I had even knew. You do know that you can postpone this if deep down you really cannot face it. It doesn't have to be next week if you are having serious doubts but please know - we all have doubts of varying degrees. Some of us are much more confident about their choice than others. I know this doesn't answer anything for you but I wanted to give you another way of looking at it. Hope it helps !! -
If I ever author a book, it's going to be called "what's wrong with denial"?
leslie1958 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just took a deep breath and entered the dark world of the complications forum and quite soundly wish I hadn't. And before any of you "moral of the story" folk get on your orange boxes to say the usual stuff like "you need to be aware" and "it's best to know before" to a certain degree you are correct of course but realistically how does that help me pre op ?? - does it make me any safer ? - does it make me any wiser ? (well okay maybe I'll give you that one) I'll tell you what it has made me - thoroughly and bloody scared. Like a lot of you - I have had my share of health dealings in the past and quite frankly, if it wasn't for utter ignorance and denial, I might never have had some of the important surgeries that I needed because I might have read something scary and then ran away. Tell me I'm not the only one here that thinks a little denial is a good thing !! -

This makes me think of something funny I read on this forum a couple of weeks ago (and to the author of that post I mean no disrespect) she was pre op and she asked if anyone knew of any better tasting B12 sublingual than the brand she was using. She said it tasted awful and she couldn't stand it. I know the brand because I use it too (tastes like cherry cough mixture not bad at all) but what made me giggle was she was happily planning having a doctor in a foreign country cut out half her stomach but she REALLY couldn't get on with the yukky tasting B12 stuff !! -

You are right - and of course I am aware of any surgery carrying complications so yes when people say "gee I wish I'd known" that is really ridiculous- I guess what this all comes down to is - some people (including my mother) want to know all the ins and outs and some others (like me) cannot shake off some of the scarier aspects so for us, in order to move forward and have this potentially life-saving surgery, it is better we do not immerse ourselves too heavily in the "what ifs" -

I'm in Richmond MO but I'll come into Kansas City. My surgery is coming up October 5th in Tijuana with Dr Illan so I'd live to come along to an October meeting. -

Wireless signals in Tijuana - Tracfone or Page Plus
leslie1958 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi everyone Okay, I have two wireless phones - one is Page Plus and the other is Tracfone. Does anyone have either of these and has successfully used them in Tijuana (or anywhere in Mexico for that matter) I called both of these carriers - Page Plus said NO not unless I can catch a Verizon signal (gee that helps) Tracfone was even more ridiculous and said NO - and went onto say that no tracfone will work outside the contiguous US - which is utter baloney folks as I have an Alaska Tracfone number which works just dandy in Alaska. So I did try the carriers first but their answers are less than helpful - would LOVE to hear from anyone with Tracfone - Page Plus or Verizon about this - did your phone work in Tijuana Mexico ?
