Sleeved aug. 26th...
Gardengirl replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 26th as well. Including pre op diet I've lost about 32 pounds. I feel great physically, on puréed/mushy food for one more week and two days. I've been exercising every day and my calories stay under 800 most days. They are telling me at the doctors office to exercise a little less (!!!) and eat a little more which cracks me up! But I do notice a better loss when I follow those instructions. Looking forward to being released to all food--the purées don't keep me full longer than 2-3 hours. -
Eatting to fast

So glad you liked it! Oink is hilarious. I had no idea I could change the sound! Thank goodness because the doorbell chime made my dogs bark! -
Eatting to fast

Been using the app called "eat slower" on my phone. It helps slow you down. -
My friend who is an urgent care doc told me I could take it daily with no problem.

I did a bad bad thing.

Can you get a canned lentil soup and purée it it? Add some milk or Greek yogurt. Amazing and high in protein. Also, my surgeons office also has medically supervised diet foods. Everything has a ton of protein. See if you can find an office near you that sells medically supervised diet foods. My broth has 15 grams of protein. They sell protein jello, puddings, shakes, etc...all with added protein. Also, if you are allowed, Costco and Sam's Club sell ready to drink protein drinks called Premier Protein, 30 grams of protein. You can dress them up with sugar free Torani syrup, instant decaf coffee, etc... -

What if I can't 'do' puree?
Gardengirl replied to Smile!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought it would gross me out but like others say, you get real, sick of the shakes. Crazy as it sounds, if I purée the food and put it on a coffee mug I find it more palatable if i don't actually see it, like in a bowl. And if you allowed mashed potatoes, most meats and fish taste really good mixed in. Salmon with mashed potatoes and a little chopped spinach has tasted divine this week. I have four weeks of puréed required. Two weeks down... -
please help! How to restart weight loss after surgery
Gardengirl replied to Beck'smom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm too new to offer substantial advice (only 4 weeks out) but I wanted to wish you congratulations!! I had a still born baby at 39 years old and was convinced I would not be able get pregnant again. I had my beautiful baby girl, full term and healthy, at 41 years old! Older moms rule!!! Be good to yourself. Take time to revel in the miracle of your baby. You have plenty of time to lose that weight!! -

August Sleevers?
Gardengirl replied to Brettharris35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too. I get hungry often but thankfully it isn't the same type of hunger as before. -
People can be so idiotic sometimes! Mostly it's because they don't know what to say. Why do they have to comment on anyone's weight, fat or thin? If I saw an unattractive person, I wouldn't feel the need to tell them they are ugly. Or that they look better now that they put some make up on. You can't tell I've lost weight yet (30 pounds lost) but I'm bracing myself for the backhanded compliments. I'm thinking my husband and kids observations will be the only ones I will trust.

Encouraging NSV: What's a "normal" portion size?
Gardengirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other night I ate 2 ounces of salmon and 1/8 cup of black beans (got full before eating the entire 1/4 cup I served myself). Couldn't even touch the steamed veggies. My 5 year old ate more than double that in salmon, about 3/4 cup of black beans and for sure more than a cup of veggies! And she ate with gusto. I looked around at my whole family and their plates looked positively laden with food. I'm sure they weren't really but compared to my ramekin, it just seemed that way! Yesterday at the kids' pep rally two friends ate the hot dog meal plus a slice of pizza and a bag of popcorn. I ate 1/2 cup of cottage cheese (that I brought along) and a1 oz. bag of protein chips. I know a couple of months ago I could have easily joined my friends in eating all the junk they did but last night the idea of that just felt ridiculous to me. I feel like my mind and stomach have been recalibrated.. -
I am so sorry you are in pain. I'm hoping this flare up is just a one time thing, or a very rare thing for sure. Hope you are able to take it easy today. XOXO

Time to start nesting! Help!
Gardengirl replied to readyforchange101013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I had no real pain that required heat or ice. Nor did I experience gas pain. I highly recommend walking as much as possible. I walked all the time in hospital and as soon as I got home. Before I left for surgery I mapped out a one mile loop. I was walking that the day after surgery. I also walked up and down the driveway after every meal/shake/liquid. I'm three weeks out and walk either two miles a day or go to gym and do cardio for 45 minutes. I feel great, like I didn't have surgery at all!! Good luck and best wishes!! -
You look beautiful. Can totally see a difference!!

I was immensely grateful for the recliner in my bedroom. Made the first week home so much more comfy than trying to get/out of my bed. Never though about renting one but if you can, do it. You will NOT regret it. -
Yum!!!!!!

Not as bad as i thought
Gardengirl replied to mizzchrisv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut told us to make instant mashed and add fat free powdered milk to boost protein. You could also add unflavored protein powder to them. -
I am almost three weeks out and have no trouble getting 64 ounces or more every day. Water goes down easy and has pretty much since day three.

Hi. I'm rather frustrated with the registered dietitians at my doctors office. Mainly because they give conflicting and contradicting answers. I'm on 4 weeks of puréed food. This is following two weeks of liquids post op. I'm told no eggs. Not in any form, not even puréed. They say it's because eggs are hard on our system so soon after surgery. Has anyone else been told this? Thanks!!

Eggs, taking a quick poll
Gardengirl replied to Gardengirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I don't want to go against them either I just don't think they have valid reasons for some of their rules. And that doesn't sit well with me. -

Gardengirl replied to Gardengirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi how are you doing? Do you go to the support group on Mondays? I'm wondering if we have met in person with our real names...haha I'm kind of butting heads with the registered dietician at the moment because her answers don't make sense. It's annoying because I feel everything else at GHP is top notch. -
Eggs, taking a quick poll
Gardengirl replied to Gardengirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly why I included that in my post! My whole pre op and two week liquid post op came from their products. I'm actually ok with that. I'm just not ok with answers and guidelines that make no sense to me. -

Gardengirl replied to Gardengirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office is very conservative however they allow soy chips and other crunchy things from their store which makes NO sense. And while I believe some people have trouble with eggs post op, I do not believe its because universally eggs are hard on our system post op. thanks, everyone, for taking time to answer.
