New to all of this
sweetforlife replied to nuddybuddy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Nuddy, Don't worry my hubby had to take care of me too...I could see how pleased he was lol....maybe your potassium is low seeing that you are not getting all the Vitamins you should get...if the headaches persist get some blood work done...when my potassium is low is get disgusting headaches. Rekunah, I thought so too but appearently at the time of surgery they flush the band to ensure no air is in there and leave 3 cc's of Fluid. That fluid was giving me a hard time. I came out yesterday...I burped for the first time since surgery....that felt sooooo good! -
Hey Sherrylynn, I am doing fine....I had a de fill yesterday and feel so much better...just getting over the aches and pains now...but that's the least...I am feeling so good now.
-
Wonderful Beau...good for you....you will do amazing.

Welcome, I know the feeling....It is not easy being overweight both physically and emotionally. I was recently banded and just started my journey. I know it won't be easy but my health is so worth it. Take care girlie.

I was banded a day before you...I have been having a hell of a time as well....I actually had to have a defill yesterday as I was having some discomfort. I got creamy soups or Gardennay soups, blended them in the bullet and strained them...that helps...I also had skim soy milk the vanilla flavour. Try that...maybe that will help. -
Banding.....August 2007! Who else?
sweetforlife replied to JudiM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Nuddy buddy, I was banded on the 7th...feel free to ask me any questions. -
Oh Cindy, Carbs are not the enemy...I thought that for years. I was on Dr. Bernstein which is a low cal, high protein, low carb diet. I lost almost a hundred pound on it but when I came off and started earting carbs...yikes I gained it all back and more. I think that the right carbs are good for you and the right portions. Sometimes when you restrict yourself from carbs you put your body in a vicious weight loss cycle...trust me your learning from the pro!! lol. I would hate to see anyone go through what I did. Take care girl.

I am feeling better....I got a de fill yesterday...at surgery you have about 3 cc's in the band...they took this out....I don't feel so constricted in my chest but I still can't burp...I think with time it will happen.

Hey Donna, Do you know how much you get back from the gov't for such a surgery?
-
You will do great! Dr. C is awesome.

12 Days Post Op - Questions?
sweetforlife replied to kero's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kero, I am one week post op and like you I had a hernia repair. Recover has been very hard for me and ver discouraging...I did speak to my doctor over the weekend..he told me that there is extra swelling due to the hernia repair..but I discovered this morning that I had an extra 3 cc's of Fluid in my band since the surgery...I went today and got the fluid taken out...there is some releif...maybe ask if any fluid was left in your band and see how that works out. -
De fill at one week
sweetforlife replied to sweetforlife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cindylou, I have a 10 cc band...don't know what that means....the defill was not as band...feel a little relief but nothing major...I guess time will tell. What was your recovery like? -
Well....I called the clinic today as it is one week since surgery and still cannot burp. I also get a lot of pain in my chest. It is also hard to get down liquid everything is sipping even water. I talked to the nurse who advised me that I had about 2 cc's in my band from the surgery and we can take out the liquid. It is very painful for me as I also had a hernia repair...inside is still quite swollen I guess. Hopefully this will cause some releif. I will let you all know how that goes. __________________

Sweetforlife banded on August 7/07 -
Well everyone....I am in the land of the living...I was banded on August 7, 2007. It was so funny as I was watching Big Medicine the night before my surgery and saw a lady that was doing the lap band surgery...I love that show. Listen anyone who has not done this surgery...It is probably the best thing that could have every happened to me. For many years I suffered from an eating disorder and it got out of control. For anyone out there that may feel that binging and purging can make you loose weight (trust me there are people out there that feel that way). You will not you were looking at at a previous bulimic that gained 50 lbs! It's better you do what you have to do and get this band. I know this journey won't be easy but now I am in control of ME and that is the most important thing. Here is the low down: 1. I waited until 1:20 p.m. a lady met with me and brough me to OR I was put in a waiting room. 2. The nurse told me to put on a robe that could finally fit me. You know the hopital gown that you have to put two on or you will be ass out..yeah...that can't happen there! lol. I also got a took to put on.The nurse came in asked a few questions. She weighed me and to my suprise I lost 15 lbs. 3. The anestigolist (mind my spelling) met with me to explain what he would be going and asked what meds I am on and if I am allergic to anything. 4. Then I met with Dr. Cobourn for a while. He answered all my questions. He told me he loved my touqe and not to start without him.lol. I told him I would try not too! 5. I was then taken to OR they strapped me up to the machines and sent me to lala land. 6. I woke up. The post op nurse Francine was amazing. She came me all sorts of cool drugs lol. I got some demerol and codine. 7. Dr. Cobourn met with me breifly and told me that I had a bit of a hernia and he fixed it! HA...I went to Peel for the same problem and they turned me away saying nothing was wrong. 8. I had a lot of gas pain in the shoulders which I think was the worst. 9. Got home and put a hot Water bottle on the shoulders took gas X and went beddie bye. 10. One thing that helps with the gas I found was a nice message. My hubbie gave me a message it helped move around the gas. 11. I slept on the couch for the evening as my couch has a lot of pillow which was very comfortable. 12. Woke up this morning to some gas but now soreness in the tummy. I guess the stiching is making me sore. The gas is starting to come out (gross) and is litterly a byatch to come out lol. All in all ... everything went well. I am very happy and that each and everyone of your for your support along the way. If it wasn't for you all I would be in the dark as to what to expect. At least by reading your experiences I now know what to expect. You all are amazing! Thanks again for all your support.

Need help with pre-op diet, please!
sweetforlife replied to Band Chick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on Optifast for three weeks. I am now 5 days post op. I got very creative with the veggies...I was climbing the walls...your looking at a girl who could down two supersized big mac combo, two apple pies and a large diet coke (what the hell was I thinking!lol) so I know how you feel but trust me...It is alllllll worth it. -
Thanks for your support...I did talk to Dr. Cobourn last night. He did advise me that the swelling from the hernia repair was the cause. I was really scared last night as the gas pain, port sorness, and tighness was hitting me all at once causing me to panick. When my hubby came home I had taken codine, had three water bottles all over with pillows everywhere...lol...it was a sight to see...take care.

I had my surgery two days ago. My surgeon fixed a hernia. I cannot burp. I get the pressure build up but it will not release...has this happened to anyone? If so what would you do?
-
Thanks...I was getting so discouraged with this whole thing.

Me too...I was banded on August 7 and cannot burp..there is just pressure in my chest and then it goes away....I can't wait for this to be over.
-
Hey Queenie, I bought some soups today...a cream of mushroom Soup and a carrot soup. I had to strain the soup as it has bits of mushroom in it and did not want to get sick.
