what to bring to the hospital ?

Yup, even though I had a private room, sometimes my door was left ajar and I could hear hallway conversations and my neighbor's TV.

I gained 11 pounds from the IV! It was gone in about a week. Molly 10/2/13

That's a bummer, but I completely understand having to have your surgery yet this year. Good luck and best wishes for a swift recovery!

    1 week post op RNY

I wish you all the quick healing vibes possible post-op! I used to manage retail stores 20+ years ago. I can't imagine WLS recovery during the holidays and I've had a relatively easy recovery so far. I get really exhausted almost every day and I've had some dumping/GI issues as I've introduced new foods. Have you considered waiting until after the holidays for your surgery, so you can not worry about timing and take care of yourself? Molly 1/2/13

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I just had an ah-ha about why I'm gaining weight. It must be because I was told to stop taking a diruretic pill that I've taken for almost 15 years. Molly 10/2/13

    Team October 28th surgeries

It can be quite noisy. In my hospital, they have single rooms, but my closest neighbor must have been hard of hearing because her TV was quite loud. Plus, often my door was left ajar and I could hear hallway conversations. Molly 10/2/13

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Everyone is their own best judge on when it's best to go back to work. I had planned to go back about 2.5 weeks, but warned my boss and coworkers it could be longer. I ended up feeling better much sooner than I had expected and was going a little stir crazy at home. I ended up working from home a week post surgery. Then back to the office the following Monday. I left early a couple of days, but felt pretty good overall. Molly 10/2/13

I've heard that the first stall often happens around two weeks. I haven't lost any lbs for a few days. However, vie also heard that inches are lost during stalls. That's what keeps me going. Molly 10/2/13

Applesauce is one of my mainstays in the puréed stage. I can mix crushed meds in it, too. I've learned (the hard way, too) that not everything works for my pouch. Look at other factors, too, like too much or too fast. My clinic also cautions that pork and beef may take longer to tolerate. Molly 10/2/13

    Smoking

Congrats for quitting! I quit 24 years (and 100lbs) ago. Once my sense of smell returned, I've been pretty disgusted by cigarettes. However, I still dream that I smoke. Funny, huh? Molly 10/2/13

    New here!

There are many people who all the stars align and are able to schedule their surgery soon after the required diet is completed. Others, like me, had circumstances beyond our control and it took longer. Make the best of your preop time. Start making gradual changes to ease yourself into your new lifestyle. Start tracking everything that goes into your mouth. I use MyFitnessPal. I initially set my goal to maintain my current weight at the time. Just being more aware of what I ate was a big change. Portion size was my next goal. Just shaving 100 or so calories off each day, I started to lose gradually. As time went on, I cut out caffeine and carbonated drinks. Once I started seeing the Nut from the bariatric clinic, I made even more changes like separating drinking from eating. 10 months later, I felt really ready. Now, I'm 2 weeks post op and I feel that I had enough time to get all my ducks in a row in my forever lifestyle. No regrets. Molly 10/2/13
