    Steps and beds

I have an adjustable bed upstairs. I was able to climb the stairs yesterday on my first night home no problem. I've been up and down the stairs a few times today. Get plenty of pillows to prop yourself on, if you have a normal bed.
  2. I've been thinking about your question a little more. Again, don't beat yourself up but you probably should mention this to someone at your clinic, too.

  4. Haven't seen a list quite like this, so I hope it is helpful for someone. All of these are available on Amazon. While I'm obese and now just after post op, I've used a toilet tissue holder to get back all the way to clean. It looks like a giant kitchen utensil, but it was recommended to me after ankle surgery last year. A similar item on Amazon is called a long reach comfort wipe. Another helpful item is a reacher. It's like a claw with a trigger. It's helpful for getting dressed post-op and to pick up items from the floor. One more indispensable item is a portable pole. On Amazon search for a mobility pole. I have the standers security pole and grab bar installed temporarily next to our toilet. Molly (10/2/13)

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Omygosh, the first two days were awful. Then day 3 was better and today was pretty good overall. Even though I heard that the first couple of days are the worst, it didn't make it any easier. One day at a time and hopefully it is better than the last. Molly

  7. The one I have looks like big kitchen thongs. It was the only one that I couldn't find on Amazon anymore. They did sell them at the hospital, though.

Wow, I think you'll be the first back to work. Even though I feel a lot better today, I can't imagine going back to work next week. More power to you! Keep us posted on how you are doing. Molly 10/2

Nothing beyond the usual walking and moving. I release a lot each time in the toilet, too. I had the left shoulder gas pain until yesterday.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Lesson learned the hard way: Last night was my first night home. I didn't set an alarm to take my pain med when I went to sleep. I woke up and needed to go use the toilet. Getting up was one of the most painful times since post-op. With all the noisy gas, I've joked that the alien from Aliens was living in my abdomen. Last night I swear the alien was ripping through. Now, I'm setting an alarm to wake up and take my pain med to stay ahead of it for a while. Other than that, I'm thrilled to be home. I'm finally catching up on email, Facebook and this forum. Showered this morning, keeping hydrated and moving. Each day I feel better than the previous day. Molly 10/2/13

I still have my appendix. :-). He did fix a hernia in addition to the RNY. I feel pretty good about going home. I'm still not sure if it will be today or tomorrow.

More details : the first couple of days were awful. Lots of pain, loopy from the morphine and very nauseous. I'm sensitive to anesthesia, so all I wanted to do was sleep. Every time someone talked to me I thought I would throw up. While not anywhere near 100%, I feel almost like a different person today. More energy, more smiles, no nausea and pain under control using liquid roxicet. Molly 10/2

Feeling MUCH better today. I might even get to go home later today or tomorrow. Puréed foods today. Much easier to take meds when mixed with puréed banana or applesauce.

    Any October surgeries out there...

I had my surgery shortly after I posted yesterday. Pain meds made me loopy and lots of nausea. Finally under a bit of control. Molly 10/2

Ugh! Still waiting in pre-op. My surgery was supposed to be at 2 today. I'm number 3. Apparently 1&2 took much longer than predicted.

In the coffee isle at my local big grocery store and on Amazon. Look for Torani and DaVinci brands.

I've tried to change it up by adding sf syrups. It makes me feel like I've got more choices. Molly
