New, cautiously excited, insurance unknown come January
Tiny One replied to hodgepodge's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Health Insurance advocate here: Did you make your insurance elections for 2016 yet? If you did, there should be a list of coverage exclusions in the summary of benefits section of the plan that you selected. If it's specifically listed as an exclusion, it won't be covered regardless of any medical conditions. But it it's not specifically listed as an exclusion, it may be covered if medically necessary. Or, you can call your insurance company & ask them. They may have access to the 2016 information now. Good Luck! -
It's all about moderations. I had surgery on 11/7 three years ago & my doctor advised I could have a half of glass of wine by New Years Eve. She just told me not to drive & watch my surroundings since I was a "light weight." I took just 2 sips to bring in the new year & toast for my husband's birthday. I tolerated it pretty well with it being only almost 2 months after surgery. Now 3 yrs post op & I can tolerate one or 2 glasses of wine. Depending on how slow I drink it or my stress level. Often times, just one glass gets me a little tipsy & that will be my limit. & I'm ok with that. I've just been afraid to try beer because of the bubbly & yeast content. I heard it could be painful for some folks. I just didn't want to take a chance. I do miss having a cold one, but I've chosen to stay away from it. I have a close associate that has had WLS that replaced her food addiction with alcohol. And is having a difficult time coping. So you just have to be careful. Good luck.

Pre-op diet for 2 weeks and I had vodka last night is this bad ????
Tiny One replied to Joymarie333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be okay. Just remember the reason for the pre-op diet. Mainly to shrink your liver as it makes it easier for the surgeon to get to your stomach. The other, it gets you prepared for the other food phases. But one mistake won't hurt you. So don't let it get you down. Good luck & hang in there. -
How Often Do You Get Help From Your Surgeon or Other Bariatric Professional?
Tiny One replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My bariatric team at Abington Memorial Hospital was & still is great. The information they provided during the consult, the workshops & other required sessions were very helpful and informative. The handbook they provided answered any questions I had in between pre & post op sessions/visits. Post op, they called to check up on me. Other than the required post op visits, I had no problems and there was no need for me to reach out to them. My team had me very well informed and prepared. I recently went for my 3 yr post op visit & all is well. -
How Often Do You Actually Cook?
Tiny One replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I don't cook much, but I regularly cook for dinner on Sunday's for my husband & I. Typically its chicken, turkey, lamb or once in a while a very very lean beef. Along with some sort of vegetables. And it's usually enough leftovers that last until Tuesday. Though we may order in, dine out or pickup dinner for the other days, I select from the healthier choices while trying to encourage my husband to do the same. Sometimes he make the same choices & sometimes he won't. I appreciate when he does... On Sunday's, I also cook some sort of fish for my lunch for the week. I'll pack that along with a cup of salad or green vegetables. -

All normal. I was nervous up until the anesthesia kicked in. So glad I didn't back out. I've never felt better. Threatening ailments no longer exists in my life. Approaching 3 yrs post op and my only regret was not doing it sooner. You'll be okay. Be patient with yourself. Good Luck to you.

Not feeling well at all
Tiny One replied to buzzly36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The timeframe to be rid of the nausea & to regain strength/energy varies, I guarantee, you will not feel like this for the rest of your life. My nausea began to subside within 24-48 hours after surgery. Each day it got better & better. You'll be okay. Best of luck to you. Your fellow losers are routing for your success! -

Hang it there. It will get better. it took me several months before I was able to meet my protien & Water goals. Sip sip sip away. As long as you keep trying, it will work out. Don't worry about those 2 lbs as your body has yet to get rid that air/gas & Fluid intake during the surgery. Believe me, you will shed those 2 lbs & many more. Sip sip sip away. Be patient with yourself, follow your program & you WILL be pleasantly surprised. Hang in there & good luck!!! -
Not feeling well at all
Tiny One replied to buzzly36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with the 10 day pre-op diet as well. Kicking the caffeine is what drove me nuts. But I got through it because I wanted so bad to have this tool to get healthy. I too had some doubts, even before enetering the OR. So glad I didn't run the opposite way. This is the best thing I've ever done for my well being. I actually went for my 3 yr post op follow-up appointment today. All numbers & counts in the perfect range & I've never been healthier. I do get the hunger feeling, it doesn't last long, it doesn't happen as often. But the ultimate is that it takes very little to satisfy it. Best diet tool ever. Hang in there, be patient with yourself & follow your program. I assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck to you!!! -

Surgery right around the corner
Tiny One replied to M&S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 11/7, by Thanksgiving I was only on puréed food. But I was able to eat a little bit of mashed potatoes, gravy and turkey all blended up together. I could only tolerate just a little before I got that full/restrictive feeling, but it satisfied my urge for the taste of that Thanksgiving dinner. By that stage, there was still swelling & digestion issues. Didn't want to force anything. I had the same worries your are having with it being so close to the holiday. But I was so happy I had the surgery & was on the path of healthy. I was ok with the limited amount I could tolerate. -

Great job!!! -
I had a slight case that disappeared afterwards.
-
Mines has been doing a periodic disappearing acts for 3 yrs now. This go round, haven't seen it since February. But no complaints.
-
See your GYN to be sure. I had some clotting & heavier bleeding afterwards. Thankfully, My issues just turned out to be due to the rapid weight loss that caused havoc on my hormone level. It actually kicked off that menopause stage for me. 3 yrs post op and it still hasn't returned back to pre-op. It disappears for months at a time. Actually, I haven't seen it since February. But not complaints.

Surgery 4/8/15 & scared it won't work
Tiny One replied to lfry925's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had some doubts, but knew I needed to get my weight under control for health reasons. I panicked at the last workshop before the surgery thinking i wouldn't be able to follow the post op diet stages. The alternative for me was the yo yo dieting & my medical conditions worsening. So I went back ton thinking about why I started this journey. And glad I stuck with it. Over 2 years post op & couldn't feel better. Good Luck!!! -
