    Ever able to "gulp" again?

While I no longer have to take small sips, Gulping for me is painful & causes hiccups. So no gulping for me. It's been over a year & I still take my time when drinking. And I'm ok with that. Everyone's different.

    Size reality?!

Oh my dear 920amy, satisfaction will come if you let it. I knew I had to buy new clothes, but held off for as long as I could without looking sickly in bagging clothes. Luck for me, my surgery was in the winter time, so I was able to get away with oversized sweaters that covered up my pants that were so big they were falling off. My creative ways to hold my pants up was funny. I finally bought new pants, size 8 & 10 off the clearance rack because I knew they'd be too big soon. But the doctor to me I'd lose a few more sizes and not by too many clothes. So I held onto those for as long as I could. I was pleasantly surprised that when I reached my goal weight, I went shopping & couldn't believe I could wear xsmall & small tops along with size 2 & 4 pants. What a revelation. I felt good. I still feel good & still can't believe how slim & sexy I look & feel. It did take some time to embrace it, but I did & I love the new me.

    getting sleeved 2/24/14 !

I wore sweats to & from hospital. I packed an extra pair of sweats & undies. So glad I did because I had to stay an extra day & felt good that I was able to refresh. my cell phone & charger. I packed the basic toiletries. So glad I did because they gave me mouthwash, but no toothbrush or toothpaste. You'll need Chapstick and a head scarf/hat. I downloaded books to read on my smart phone, but I didn't read. Between walking every two hours, chit chatting & watching TV with the husband, & napping, no time to read. Good luck to you!!!
  4. Biggest part of my work out is running, so I never eat before working out for fear that my food isn't completely digested. Fearing the stomach cramping or it possibly coming back up. I'll drink water during workouts & drink a protein shake afterwards. Been working for me for over a year now. But Everyone's different so Find what works for you.
  5. My acid production was decreased tremendously after surgery. Only time I had an acid problem is laying down too soon after eating once or twice. Other than that, been off it for almost a year now & no issues. What I can tell you though, if it or anything else causes hunger, it will take very little food to satisfy your hunger. So I wouldn't worry. Good luck!

    I need some advice!

I agree with Missrodd. But something else to think about, you don't normally count what comes out the other end, right? Lol, now that's a gross thought. But you don't count it, right? I'd just make a note so if & when your doctor ask how often you throw up & what you threw up, you can tell them if it matters.

    New Pre-Op and Struggling

I tell you what, if you eat a whole large pizza post op, you'll be in soooo much pain. It so not worth the pain. It's good that your are speaking to someone about the bing eating now. That way you'll know how to deal with those bing urges post op. Good luck. If you stick with the plan & follow the rules, you will be pleasantly surprised. Just be patient and you will be okay.

    Alcohol...

I got approval to have a glass of wine after 6 weeks. Drink a half of glass & stopped because I felt tipsy, stomach was ok.. Now I can drink 1 glass & I'm ok. If I drink 2 now, it makes me feel like I had a few shots of tequila. Room spins & feel nauseous. The day after I drink 2 glasses of wine, major hangover headache, but no nausea. So 1 glass is my limit when I do drink. I heard horrors stories about beer, so I haven't had any post op. I tried to sip on a shot of cognac on ice and I felt tipsy, not nauseous. But had bad dreams that night. It happen twice. Needless to say, no more cognac for me. I guess is official. I'm truly a light weight in all aspects of the word. But I'm not complaining.
  9. It's good to set short term goals. Sounds like a good plan. Just stick to the rules, be patient & you will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck!!!!

    Muscle milk is pretty good.
  11. What about your water? Are you drinking enough? Also, what are you doing at the gym? If you've been doing the same routine, you may need to change it up. Either way, hang in there. The pounds will start dropping again & you will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck. Just be patient & follow the rules. You will be pleasantly surprised.
  14. Thanks Linda. I met my goal in Nov and have been working to maintain it at this point. It's been a fun challenge over the past 3 months. If I don't lose another pound, I'd be okay.
  15. I lost 18 on my pre-op diet.
  16. How is that possible?IV fluids and swelling. I didn't weigh myself right after surgery, but 1 week postop I was still up 5 pounds. Yup, the IV fluids, gas & swelling will get you all the time.
  17. I've always been a private person when it comes to my health and personal decisions. This was no different. I chose to tell only my very supportive husband who has listened to me complain/worry about my weight, sleep apnea and concerns with the threat of HBP, diabetes & high cholesterol. I told 3 very very close supportive friends. I told my HR rep only because I thought it would be on my paperwork that I submitted for FMLA. Had I known my doctor was writing abdominal surgery only, I wouldn't have told the HR rep. My coworkers thought I was out sick. I work in the healthcare insurance industry and we are well aware of HIPAA. It would be a violation if they ask any personal health questions. I just accept their comments & keep it moving. I have a large family and a twin, but didn't tell any of them. We tend to be very critical & judgmental of each other. My twin is very competitive. It was easy not telling them because I don't see the everyday. They have no idea that I took off for 5 weeks for my sleeve. I'm loving the fact that they don't know. Funny thing is, I think one of my sisters is overly obsessed with the fact that i don't drink or eat as much as I previously did when we get together. Almost to the point where she said something a few times about me going to the bathroom after eating. I wouldn't be surprised if she and my other sisters discuss that behind my back. I'm okay with that, and can't wait for them to stage an intervention, lol..... My husband and I talk about how funny that would be. I knew folks would try to talk me out of it and I didn't want that stress on top of the anxiety of have major surgery. When folks ask what am I doing, I tell them I eat healthier, portion control, & exercise. The folks that know me well enough to ask questions, they know me well enough to know their limits with discussing my health. My limiting the number of folks has allowed this journey to be a very positive one. I enjoy the great comments and keep it moving. So not telling works for me,
  18. Awesome!!! Keep up the good work. You'll be off your BP meds in not time.

    Initial Consultation Questions

I had no drain. But had a catheter that I didn't know about. Never thought to ask. I didn't have to give myself the blood thinners. The nurses gave them to me while there. They kept me an extra day because my blood count was low. Thought I would need a blood transfusion, but I didn't. That was caused by all of the fluids they was pumping through the Iv's & blood thinners that really, really thinned my blood. Once the doctor discounted the IV, everything was ok. I was discharged after 48 hours with no problems. Other than nauseous once or twice after discharge, it was pretty much smooth sailing for me. Good luck.

    ? normal post op

The first day after surgery, I was really nauseous from the medications. But after that, I was ok. When I got home, I took my nauseous meds twice a day, even when I didn't feel sick. So that helped. Other than the day after, I think I spit up only once or twice since. Just follow the rules, and you'll be ok. Don't eat/drink too fast, or too much. Don't lay down too soon after eating. Good luck & be patient. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
