Help lose weight before surgery
Tiny One replied to Jenlanning30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What works for some, may not work for others. For me, I changed my eating habits immediately after my first consult with surgeon & NUT to prepare for post op. Lost 18 lbs from july thru Oct by eating high Protein, low carbs. Really cut back on junk food, no fast food, drank more Water, gave up caffeine & beer. Didn't eat after 7 pm. The first few days was hard, but then I focused on what I needed to do to make this entire journey a success. -

For Vets or 6 months post op!
Tiny One replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
8 mons post op & I enjoy going out even though I don't each much. I've always loved leftovers that previously only last for next day's lunch. Now my leftovers last for a few days & it saves us money. -
Try some warm decaf tea. It will help with the swelling of your new stomach. Also try drinking you water at room temperature. Don't worry too much though, because its still early out. Just try sipping throughout the day all day to ensure you get some fluids in. As time goes on, you'll be able to tolerate more & more.

Newbie looking for support
Tiny One replied to New life's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
. I started this is journey last July. Best decision I've ever made, with only 1 regret. And that's not doing it sooner. Btw, no one in my family knows. Only my husband & 3 very good non-judgemental friends. Good luck to you. -
At some point you'll be able to eat what you eat now. You just won't be able to eat as much of it.

Yes, way too soon. 6-8 weeks I was told.

Congrats on the weight loss thus far. While the NUT may be knowledgable in some things, the NUT is not a doctor, so don't let it discourage you. Keep up the good. One thing that worked for me is i increased my cardio activities. You are walking for an hour. How fast are you walking? Are you walking fast enough that raises your heart rate to really sweat?

Agree, my doc told me to stay clear of the frozen meals because of the high sodium content.

1-2 lbs consistently?
Tiny One replied to shannon crotts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 mons post op & have lost 64 lbs as of 7/22. If I do the calculations correctly, I've actually lost an average of 2 lbs per week since I started this journey. Of course immediately after surgery I dropped 25, and may have slow down a little. But on average it's 2 lbs per week as predicted by m doctor. No disappointed one bit. -
New frozen dinner at walmart.
Tiny One replied to Imjustmee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While they may e convenient, doc told me that those frozen meals has too much sodium. I was pretty bummed about that because I loved the lean cuisines lunches. -

Disability insurance questions
Tiny One replied to saccarmen's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I wasnt self pay & I had disability insurance through work. My surgeon filled out the paperwork. -
My very supportive husband was there all the way. Took me to hospital, waited, stayed overnight both nights, drove me home & took off work the first week to care for me.
-
Same thing here. Surgery on 6/7 & cycle came 3 days later. It was 3 weeks early. At 3 mons post op, no cycle for 2 mons, then it returned again 2 times in the same month. Regular cycle started again @ 6 mons post op.

I told only: *my husband, of course *my hr rep only because I thought it would be on my paperwork, but doc only listed "abdominal surgery." Had I known that, I wouldn't have told her. However, she's sworn to secrecy or she'll lose her job. *3 really close girlfriends I didn't tell anyone else, not even family. My health issues & medical decisions are private & not open for judgement & scrutiny.

4 mons is about the time I started reaching my daily protein goal and that's when my hair loss stopped. Only saw it when I didn't reach the daily protein goal.

Is no drinking before and after eating a forever thing?
Tiny One replied to CatherineJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it was ok to drink 15 mins prior to eating & don't drink until 1 hour afterwards. I started doing that prior to surgery & the pre-op diet to get adjusted. Now 8 mons out & it's a really a habit now. -

I heard about it on good morning America. You are not over reacting. Just cautious.
