Is it really worth it?
Tiny One replied to SleeviePete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it outweighs the above. Almost 10 mons post op & not many problems at all. Bad breath - used breath strips Bad BO - didn't have this problem Loss of hair - happened until I reached my daily Protein goals. But It wasn't noticeable as my hair is extremely thick. I only noticed when washing my hair. Dumping - only when I eat something that I shouldn't have. Doesn't happen often, if at all. Constipation - lasted only for 1-2 weeks at 2 mons post op until I increased Water & took stool softener. Puking - only happened 3 times after getting discharged from hospital. It is well worth it. Believe me, you will love it. Good Luck!!!! -
Today is my day to become a loser.

IBC Personal Choice PPO in PA coverage
Tiny One replied to jadira30's topic in Insurance & Financing
O ok, such a shame they didn't inform previously. from what I understand, you won't have to start over. My clinic, Abington, said they get plenty of patients that started the process at another clinic but had to transfer to them and IBC allowed them to transfer without starting over. Good luck. -
IBC Personal Choice PPO in PA coverage

Hey, don't get discouraged. I worked at IBC for years & now work as a patient advocate. My experience with the insurance reps is some may not be knowledgable enough to know where to search. So when you called IBC, did you only ask them to check for the WLS documents? If so, the member service rep is only going to check incoming documents. It's possible the doctor's office may have called in the request or submitted it electronically. Not all of IBC's reps are experienced enough to know all of the systems to check. You may want to call back and tell them that your doctor submitted a pre- cert request for WLS & you want the status. That way the rep can check the pre-cert/auth system or any other electronic system the docs use to communicate with IBC. If the don't understand or sound too knowledgable, request to speak with a supervisor so that they can research more thoroughly. Good luck & please keep me posted. -

I got my approval within a week of submission. I would call your coordinator or you can call IBC to get the status. Good luck. -
I was told 6 weeks. Doc advised no strenuous activities for fear of hernia. I was so afraid I'd end up in the hospital, so I followed the rules exactly. NOW, week six, it was on and popping & hasn't slowed down since & I'm 9 mons post op.

OMG, YES! & I like it! -
This coming from a health insurance "patient" advcate: Ok, as far as your insurance excluding the WLS, there could be a number of reasons for the exclusion. It can actually be excluded, not unless you are in a state that has some sort of mandate that forbids excluding WLS. You first should find out if or how your employer excluded it from your plan. If your employer excluded it with no exceptions, then your insurance carrier isn't permitted to cover it as they must abide by the plan design as approved by your employer group. Perhaps it's covered for certain medical conditions or not. Have you spoken with your benefit rep? How is it listed in the summary of plan description that you received from your Benefits department? You may want to look into it thoroughly first before you spend money on an attorney. It may be a no win battle. But good luck.

I got it 2 weeks early the first month. Came twice & heavy for the next 2 months. Then I missed it for 3 months. Then it returned to normal at 6 mons post op. saw GYN & was told it was due to the hormonal changes & trauma from the major procedure. Said to only be concerned if cycle last more than 10 days.

Really? Really, youve got to be kidding me!
Tiny One replied to BlueClementine's topic in Rants & Raves
Very inappropriate. In the medical professional, does she not understand her limits. There's a federal law that protects your "personal health information." In no way should she have asked you anything about why you were there. I would report her ass!!!!! -

Tiny One replied to NewAshes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Insurance Requirments
Tiny One replied to MrsAnders's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No diet or waiting requirement for me. Just had to complete all required specialists visits & screening. My journey started in July & had my surgery Nov 7th. Once I got the surgery date scheduled, I only had to do the 10 pre-op diet. -

Had 9 month post op appointment this week. Meeting & slightly exceeding 80 gm of protein, with at least 65 coming from food. Was advised I no longer need the daily protein shakes. So, so happy. -

IBC Personal Choice PPO in PA coverage
Tiny One replied to jadira30's topic in Insurance & Financing
Good luck! You have a pretty good chance. I do know IBC will require it be done at a Center of Excellence facility. What hospital do you plan to use. -
I've been drinking crystal light with no problem. I actually get the individual packets or drops and mix it with water. Hasn't caused me any issues & as helped me stay hydrated.

Need advice from Veteran Sleevers
Tiny One replied to teachartmw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After my first informational & NUT sessions, i started cutting back on caffeine, fast foods & other junk foods along with alcoholic beverages. I also started not drinking 15 mins prior to meals & not drinking until 1 hour afterwards. And not eating after 7 pm. All that was difficult initially but it was habit forming. with all of that, my post op transition hasn't been too difficult. While I didn't know about this forum until 5 mons post op, the handbook my center gave me prepared my tremendously. I must say, had I known about this forum pre-op, I think the horror stories would have added more anxiety for me. I have a habit of over analyzing. so I probably would've chickened out. Some folks like a lot of information, for me, less was better. I relied on the information in my handbook & informational sessions. This worked for me. -
Congrats & good luck!

Outpatient VS Inpatient?
Tiny One replied to Goddardgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was approved & scheduled as outpatient. The plan was to keep me under observation until the next morning. However, my heart rate was off the chart & blood count was low. So they admitted me as inpatient thinking I may need a blood transfusion & to monitor my heart. As it turned out, all of the IV fluids along with the heparin diluted my blood. Once the doc discontinued the fluids, blood count was better. No transfusion. high Heart rate was due to hospital anxiety. I absolutely HATE hospitals. Part of the reasons I followed the post op rules @ 100% so i wouldn't end up back there. So overall, although I didn't want to be there, that extra day was necessary to monitor my situation. -
I can't each much bread at all. It doesn't sit well & makes me feel horrible. Bread really isn't my friend these days and I'm ok with that because there really isn't much room after I eat my protein first, & veggies second.
