    3 Month pre-op

I had my Psych Eval last year and had to do a 200 questionnaire. Do you have support, Are you willing to change your life, A lot of the questions contradict one another. Some questions were definitely odd; asking if I ever hear voices or see strange images. My guess is that they want to be sure that you are emotionally and mentally stable to have this kind of surgery. After the questionnaire, I had a brief 20 minute session with a psychiatrist asking simple questions about myself. Nothing too heavy. I passed the psych evaluation, but he put a short comment stating "Has some stressful tendencies".. I was told by my PCP, that most evals come back with the same statement, as they do not expect everyone to be there because there situation is perfect. Best of Luck! No Worries
  3. I am 47 and am in pre-menopause. Does being sleeved before menopause make a different experience, or prevent a lot of the menopause symptoms to occur? With all the hormones changing post op, I just wondered if it would help or make it worse. Thanks!

Pics at 19+ weeks post op.

I have not had my surgery yet, But, my plan is to be about the same size as you are now. I personally would stop losing if I look like you do now, only because I would then work on toning, weights, and tightening up my bod. I am 5' 6", so I guess it also depends on how tall you are. But, you look great! You can tell you have really worked hard. It must be nice to look and feel great. Best of Luck to your continued success!

    My new sleeve :)

Thank you for sharing your story. I am going in for surgery on 3/11/14. I sure hope my experience is just as good as yours. I just keep wondering how to get all the Protein in that we need post surgery and Water. I heard it is not easy. Good Luck to you.

    How is everyone doing?

Hello, I am getting sleeved on March 11th. It is great to hear you are doing well and the weight is coming off. Is there some advice to prepare for surgery that you can give. Or what major changes to expect post surgery. I was curious if any of you are doing OK with the post op Protein drink and what you recommend. Thanks Much!! and Congrats!!

    anyone with a march date?

I am getting vertical sleeve on March 11th. What are each of you doing to prepare. There is so much to do before hand. I am getting overwhelmed on what to do first.

    Back at work!

Sounds like you are doing well. How long were away from work? I am scheduled for surgery March 11th. How are you keeping the protien drinks down and any significant changes that stand out that you would like to share? Best of Luck! Thank you

    One year surgiversery!

Great Post. Thank you. I am scheduled for surgery on March 11th, so I am looking to get in touch with anniversary surgeries. Can you tell me how you did with Protein drinks post surgery and if you recommend any? Also, I heard that one must eat slow and chew very well. And wait to drink Water after a meal. I worry about the habits I must break. But, I am working on it. Congrats. sounds like you are doing well. Aileen

    I'm Officially Sleeved!

Congrats! Hope you are doing well. I am the same height and weight as you are. I wanted to get in touch with some newly sleevers, as I am scheduled for surgery on March 11th. When you are able to write more, can you tell what you did to prepare for surgery with eating and the Protein? Thanks much and wish you great success. Aileen

    Denied-Anthem BCBS

You should see if the hospital that you are going to has been registered as a center of excellence most recently; and perhaps they have not been recognized as one yet with your insurance company. Or ask if they are in the process of meeting these standards of "excellence". I work for a healthcare organization and I know that based on Quality of Care reports that are currently being implemented across the country; that your hospital choice may be waiting for State Health reporting. Just a thought. I know that the direction of healthcare is to get all hospitals on board with "Center for Excellence"

    6 weeks Post Op

I can hear your excitement in your post. Good for you!! I am on the forum reading how others are doing post surgery, to help prepare me for my surgery at the end of year. Thanks for sharing your progress and success so far :-)
  14. This topic has been the most valuable to me thus far. The threads that prepare you with food, habits, what to expect after are all at our finger tips and are so helpful. But, this thread of people that are nervous, wondering if this choice is the right one, thinking if they could still try something else was most valuable at this time. Then I read.. Belize's post and was inspired. This post validated my decision to do surgery. I really appreciate your heartfelt response that most of us can relate to.. It put any reservations that I have at ease. Looking to be sleeved at the end of year. Thank you!!

Be honest - does anyone regret the surgery?

Thank you so much for your post. From what I have read from others recently sleeved, there are some reservations afterwards. But, hearing your journey again after 3 weeks, really helps those of us that have not had surgery yet. I am sure things get better for most as the healing and weight loss begins. Thanks Much!

    NOT SO HAPPY....

I too am required by insurance to do the 6 month management program. I will be having surgery either December or January. I was bummed at first, I could have done 3 months.. but 6 months? I am in my 2nd month now and it is flying by fast. So much to prepare and get ready for.. So much to learn, eating habits and life style. I would have had the surgery today if I could, but am thankful that I have time to "get ready" for it. Hang in there and use this time to get ready for a new you!!
  17. Very sorry to hear this sad story. I have not had my surgery yet, I am still in all the requirement phase with insurance, etc. I am not on the same page as the NY1966 message, but I am curious if anyone does know who the surgeon is or the hospital. My aunt and uncle are from Michigan and are considering this surgery. The entire story sounds so devestating... It would be helpful to all the Michigan folks to know, at least for a "heads up"
  18. I am just now starting my 6 month Weight Mgt. program with my nutritionist, which is Insurance required for surgery. So, I am looking at January for a date. I was dissappointed to have to wait that long. But, I have been told it does prepare you and goes by fast. ( I hope) I was told that they do want a fair amount of weight lost prior to surgery for a better liver size; mostly at pre op. Primarily, the Weight Mgt. program is mostly for preparing me for surgery and post op eating habits and food preparation. Losing or gaining weight during the 6 months is not that big of an issue. Mostly just completing the 6 month with a plan in place afterwards. Good Luck!

How much can/could you eat 7 weeks post op?

I have not had surgery yet. So, are you talking 2 to 3 oz. at each meal; like Breakfast 2 oz, Lunch 2 oz and dinner 2 oz. or 2 -3 oz a day? Just Curious still learning.. Thanks

Why does everyone else have preop testing?

Yes, Request and ask why not more. This is major surgery. This week so far I have had to do my Lots of Labs, Psych Eval, EKG, Barium Swallow Test, Bone Density, Ultrsound and Chest x-ray. Still waiting for a Surgery date, but getting all of this out of the way.. Labs just does not seem like enough prep. Unless, insurance does not cover it.. Double check. Good Luck!

    Not Sure I Do This

Thank you to everyone who has posted on this comment. I too was concerned, but I went to my surgeon for a consult yesterday and he was so honest and informative; that any anxiety I may have had before this was put to rest. I know it is difficult to get your head in that place of comfort regarding the whole process at first, but it was very clear when he asked me, where will you be in 10 years with your health? More weight, older, more health issues, the list goes on. There is so much support on this site; it has really helped me get through the concerns. Be sure you have a surgeon that you really feel comfortable with.. for me that is the greatest part of it all. Good Luck to you!!

Banana Pancakes! No flour, only 2 ingredients, bananas and eggs!

Actually, no they do not taste a lot like egg. The is mostly used for firmness and texture. What you do taste is an banana cooked like a pancake.. The egg makes it easy to pour in the pan like batter. I was skeptical, thought it was odd. But, it is like a sweet breakfast with protein too. I never put anything on it. I was fine with it just plain.

Banana Pancakes! No flour, only 2 ingredients, bananas and eggs!

Yes, Banana Pancakes!! 1egg, 1 soft banana. My nutritionist recommended these to me. No sugar, no flour, no oil. They really do taste quite good. Sure, they are not with maple syrup, but if you are making food changes... why not give it try.. I hope you enjoy them!

Wow! Congrats on your success. You look so much younger. I have noticed that all the great before and after photos that are posted have taken not only years off peoples lives, but years in looks too. Amazing!! I am from Seattle, but live in the Puyallup area. It is nice to see others from Washinton too that are so successful. :-)
