    Another Protein Drink ?

I have ordered the unjury Protein shakes from their website. http://www.unjury.com/store/protein?tag=BP The chocolate is very good, and the vanilla and chicken broth too. The strawberry was too sweet for me. They are good quality drinks that are powder form. My surgeon recommended powder only. Best of Luck

    Post Op Eating

Hi, Two weeks post op and still having sugar free Jell-O, Sugar Free Popsicles, chicken broth, Crystal Lite and 3-4 Protein shakes at 30 grams each. Surgeon said I need to consume about 90 grams of protein a day. I need to get in 64-80 oz. of fluids. All of the above, count toward the fluids. This is about it for me for the next week, then I will work on soft foods like cottage cheese, puddings and eggs.. Can't wait.

    Vitamins?

I take Flintstone Berry Multi Vitamin 4 x day. The Calcium is a liquid berry flavor (don't know name off hand.) I use this in a little 1 oz cup and put my crushed supplements in it, like Biotin.

    Sleeved on March 11th

I too had surgery on the 11th. I could have wrote the exact paragraph as Annabelle628. I did vomit though on Tuesday night and it was an awful experience. So painful and the nausea stayed until Thursday. After getting through the first two days anything is better now. I am getting 50-60 0z of liquids, which include chicken broth, Crystal Lite, SF Jell-O, sugar free Popsicles. I am have one Protein shake a day, about 4 oz of Premier Protein. All of this is taken in very small sips, no gulps. I have been taken liquid and crushed supplements already, which I believe has helped in my recovery. I have had sores in my mouth today. I think it is from either the liquid hydro codeine, liquid Iron or crystal lite. Maybe a little concentrated. When I had my Protein Shake, my mouth felt better. Down 5 lbs, but still very swollen all over stomach area Walking gets rid of the gas pains, which is minimal. Overall, ready to get my lifelong routine started soon. Good Luck to all! It gets better after day one and two. Hang in there!
  5. I am scheduled for surgery 3/11, Tuesday. I started out at 250lbs. with a goal of losing 100 lbs to get to 150 lbs. At this time I have lost 25 lbs. pre-surgery on liquid diet and now only have 75 lbs to lose. I am wondering if anyone had less than 75 lbs to lose. I am thinking.. wow 25 lbs came off in 2 weeks. Maybe I should keep going with this and not have surgery. I see a lot of people having to lose a lot more than I do and wonder if 75 lbs is not worthy of having this surgery. I also do not want to lose more than 75 lbs post surgery. Any thoughts or experiences you can share?

2nd Thoughts- 3 days from surgery

Thanks for your posts. It is much appreciated. I would not go longer with a pre-op liquid diet. I was concerned at having surgery with 75 lbs to lose, and have the concern of losing too much weight with the sleeve. And wondering if 75 lbs, was even a number that I should be having surgery for now. I have a few more days and I will post again. Thanks

    1 Year Anniversary

You look fabulous. I have surgery on Tuesday March 11th.. Your photos are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!!
  9. I am having surgery on March 11th. My FMLA approved 6 weeks off. However, my surgeon said if I have a low impact or desk job, that 2 weeks is just fine. So, I will take 2 weeks off, and if I need longer at least I have it approved.

    2 week pre-op diet. HELP!

I only had to do a 10 day liquid diet. My surgery is March 11th, so I am in day 6. The first 2 days were bad with a headache, hunger, and feeling like I was getting detoxed for sure. At this time, I feel great and did after day 3. Be sure to have at least 60-80 grams of Protein on the liquid diet. My surgeon also said I could have chicken broth, sugar free popsicles and Jello. So, that helps. If I am hungry, I just make another protien shake. I have lost about 8 lbs.. Probably Water weight. But, at least my surgeon will be glad I did. He said I needed to lose at least 10 lbs. before surgery. Good Luck to you.

Is there a chewable or small B1 vitamin available?

I take B-12 injections 1 x week, and I have the liquid tablets that melt under your tongue.

    March Sleevers!

Hello jeninpink, I am having surgery March 11th.. I was nervous these past couple weeks. I could not really pinpoint exactly why or what concerns I had. Mostly, just the change in my life that is coming my way. I feel like the real me has been hidden from the world in a large suit for 20 years, and now I am about to live again. I have completed everything required for surgery.. In fact just got the clearance for surgery from my Internal Medicine doc today. I know the risks of surgery and they are minimal. But, the results and the success by far out weigh what the alternative of not doing anything at all. When I read the stories of others being nervous the days leading up to surgery and then reading they are 3 days post op and doing well; that continues to motivate me even more. Good Luck to you. See you on the other side of the scale :-)

    Protein supplement?

Yes, there is so many Protein supplements. I have tried many pre surgery and I have heard that our tastes buds may change post surgery, so do not invest alot at this time. My surgeon said to look for under 200 calories, under 3 grams of sugar and over 25 gr of protein. I am currently drinking unjury chicken flavor and chocolate. So far so good. My surgery is March 11th, so I will continue with these supplements as long as I can tolerate the flavors. Good Luck!

    Vit E

Hi Megan, My surgeon suggested not taking Vitamin E, Omega, Fish Oil at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. Something to do with oily texture that it can leave in the lining of your stomach, or something like that. But, he said that post surgery it would be fine. I have gotten some Vitamin E, keratin lotion for scars and tighten the skin post surgery. I hope it works. I know Vitamin E will be good for scars too. Good Luck!!

    My Journey/March 2014 Sleever

My date is March 11th. I will be starting my 10 day liquid diet on March 1st. I started this journey last March of 2013, when my doctor recommended surgery because of all my co morbidities. I am 5' 6" and was 250.. I weigh about 240 now. But, my mom was a very large women and I have older 2 sisters, that are. I decided to be proactice and do something now. I had to do the 6 month diet eval with a nutritionist before insurance approval. I am glad that I did. It has really prepared me for what to expect and learn more. I too, am nervous. But, I could not be more ready for this. Can't weight to see the scale at 150 this time next year. I will try and send a message post surgery for follow up support. Good Luck to all. It is time for us!!

    SHEER TERROR

I was careful in answering with "your date" because I was thinking to myself, I really do not know the gender of this person or their sexual orientation. So, I did not assume.. Having said that. My brother is gay and lost 100 lbs. Although he did not have a lot extra skin, when he did begin to date, he disclosed his transformation after a couple of dates, when he was sure it would be someone that would be OK with his new body. You will know when it is comfortable to let someone interesting know. Again, you have come along way. Perhaps other people with a similar situation will see the posting and give their first hand experience and advice.. Best of luck to you and a healthier you!!

    SHEER TERROR

Be up front and honest from the beginning. Since you have 5 dates in line, then you will know which dates are interested in knowing more about you or moving on. Be courageous in doing so, as you have with getting your surgery. Who knows maybe one of your dates may have had surgery themselves and may be wondering the same question. You will know who cares and who does not. Have a great time!! Be confident. You have come a long way not to. :-)

    denial letter

I can relate. I was required to do the 6 months and some testing before insurance would approve. I thought I was going to be approved in July 2013, but was told I was not qualified until the above was complete. I was so ready last summer, but the past 6 months have gone by fast. And now I am scheduled for surgery in March. I truly am glad that I was able to have those 6 months worth of visits to prepare. Even though I am having surgery in couple of weeks I still feel that I am not ready, I will be researching everything until the day I have surgery. The time really goes by fast. It will be here in no time.. Good Luck to you!

saying goodbye to my old friend...FOOD

Thanks for sharing your food stories. I am scheduled to have the sleeve on March 11th. I will be starting my pre-op liquid diet 10 days out. At this time, I have been eating almost everything in sight. As if to get my last hooorah in! I have been so stressed at the thought of having the surgery that I am turning to food to comfort me, until my liquid diet. I am wondering what will I do for comfort after the surgery. I have a lovely family and husband, so I am not lonely. I just eat out of boredom and daily stress. If someone p**sses me off, or if something is out of my control, I tend to eat. I believe that the craving and desire for food will be gone, so perhaps the comfort of food will not be needed. I need to get an outlet to handle this change. I am kind of freaked out not knowing if I can figure it out.

how to request time off from work?

I did not keep my surgery private. But regardless if you do or not.. your FMLA is considered private and only between HR and you, or the company that handles your FMLA.. At my work we have a company that is contracted to handle all of the FMLA. It is a good idea to give your new manager a "Heads up" that you are having surgery soon, that way they can be ready if it is scheduled soon. But, it is not there entitlement or business to know what kind of surgery you are having. I did not have to tell my manager. In fact, she did not ask, I just offered the information. As long as it is medically necessary, it will not matter.
