Watched 'Forks over Knives' and 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead' this weekend. Feeling confused this morning!
LoryLosesXS replied to sleevethefatbehind's topic in Food and Nutrition
I felt the same way. The difference is our tummies are small and we need Protein to not lose our protein. Said in lay men's terms. All our organs, hair, nails, are made of protein. I think a Paleo diet is the way to go and the most satisfying. Ashley Horner....check her out.....fittest woman I've ever seen....she eats a Paleo diet. Veggies have free radicals that it only makes sense to incorporate them into our diet once we are through all the phases of healing. salad with Ahi tuna is a perfect example along with a Olive oil based dressing. :-). Anything that pushes fear from both sides....it's a turn off for me. I follow my instincts and when I don't....I pay a price. Best wishes!! -
From my understanding roasted almonds are not as healthy as we think. Raw almonds are the healthy way to go. There is something that happens to the chemical structure once roasted. :-/ I'm like Globetrotter......I can eat a can/bag full of nuts! Lol

I haven't done granola because of the sugar. I'm sure there is a healthy option. I just haven't searched for it. I will pop a few raw almonds into my yogurt to keep me sustained. Yummy too!

I've heard various amounts. I do my best to get 64oz., but usually wind up with about 42 oz. it's harder in the winter time. I don't think we sweat as much, so the need isn't as great. I make it a goal to drink a lot of Water when I'm driving to and home from work. I also drink on my breaks as much as I can. I say trust your instincts. If we truly listen to our bodies....it tells us what we need. :-)

What did you eat on your First day of real food?
LoryLosesXS replied to ddw12's topic in Food and Nutrition
Egg white omelette with cheddar cheese. It was like heaven! -
Protein protein protein....biotin I take everyday too. I've heard mixed reviews. I was sleeved sept 28th. I'm blonde and thinner hear too, but haven't noticed a significant amount of hair loss. What I know for sure is if it happens.....it will come back. Focus on 90 to 100 grams of protein is what my doc says. I've slipped a lil, but getting back on track with my protein. I feel more satiated also when I eat that much protein and sugar cravings subside. Best wishes!

7 weeks out and a fruit addict...
LoryLosesXS replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in Food and Nutrition
I eat fruit everyday. Sugarfree applesauce, peaches in their own juices, or pears. It helps me stay sane. My Wellness doc said it's ok. Everything in moderation. 2 1/2 c. Servings won't kill you, but getting your protein in is key. I know I'm a sugar addict and have to be very aware of what will trigger me to crave sweets. Peaches and applesauce are ok. I've done pineapple too, but not very often. Our goal should be to chew the hell out if everything lol so it doesn't hurt our tummies. When I don't and I eat unconsciously....I pay the price. Best wishes! -
3 weeks post-op: Pizza and Pasta?!
LoryLosesXS replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 44 and went through 2 weeks of severe pain before it subsided. A month of soft foods. I eat completely normal food now. However, I must always be aware of what and how much I'm putting in my mouth. I cannot talk on the phone or watch TV when I am eating. Conscious eating is key to not putting too much in our mouths. I have heard that recovery is harder when the hernia is repaired. My doc said there is better weightloss though. Not sure I'd want that struggle. 46 is definitely not old. Our cells regenerate every 5 years! I'm a whole new person than I was 5 years ago! :-). I can only imagine where I will be in 5 years from now. The battle to focus on good is hard when we are in pain. I wish you perfect health and a happy NEW year! -
3 weeks post-op: Pizza and Pasta?!
LoryLosesXS replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Olive Garden now has great options on the Appetizer menu! Chicken on skewers and grilled asparagus. I was only able to eat some of the chicken. I took the rest home with the asparagus for an additional meal. :-) I know I cannot do any white flour or white sugar as I was an addict. It triggers me to want more. Pizza is a noooo go. There are healthy alternatives and thousands of recipes out there for us to focus on that are good for us. Self sabotage is deadly for us. We didn't go through all of this to go backwards. Make you a priority! Happy healthy New Year! -
Try flavored stevia

Dr never beat yourself up. Just make a different choice to do what is right for you physically. Sometimes at work I get so busy I forget to drink enough water. I make it a mission to get one of my water bottles drank before I get home from work. I have a 30 to 45 min drive. A lil flavoring in the water helps at times too. Right now it's winter and we aren't sweating like we do in the summer so thirst isn't as present. Setting an alarm on your phone as a reminder to drink water might help too. :-). Best wishes! Remember this journey starts in our mind. :-)

I have never heard of an insurance automatically approving someone. Typically they require 6 months of a medically monitored diet record. However, it's worth a shot. Best wishes!

I love PB2 peanut butter and unsweetened hears hey cocoa in Vanilla protein. Yuuuummmmyyyy! Add ice!

Your new tummy only holds so much. I was hungry every 4 hours. That's normal. Before surgery we would eat so much that we wouldn't be hungry for 6 to 8 hours. Healthy people eat small meals every 2 hours. :-)

I just made some mini green enchiladas in cupcake tins. Easy recipe. Sauté some diced onions, chicken breast, salt and pepper. Add the green enchilada sauce. Line low carb tortillas in the tins and layer in refried Beans (1 Tblspn), chicken with sauce and top with cheese. Cook in 325 for 30 mins. Yummy! I let cool and put 3 per bag for each meal. My whole family loved them. I like easy and this was it! I found it on a link, but can't remember the link, so I thought I'd share with you the best recipe I've made since surgery. :-) email me with questions.

Get a new doctor! I never had these issues, but I was on them like white on rice. However, my doctor and his assistants were great! I wanted to get my surgery in a certain time frame to get back to work before the busy season started. In turn, I called my insurance everyday to see where in the process it was until the medical director signed off. Then I pressed the docs office to schedule me as early as possible. I even had my surgery on a Saturday. If they are not nice....tell them. There are many options out there. Once your medical insurance approves....go somewhere else and tell them why. Take your power back. It's your health and body, not theirs. Sometimes making them aware of their behavior will help, but if it doesn't....see ya! I've done this with dentists and doctors offices that make you wait far too long or don't have great customer service. That is what we are and they need to remember that. If you're in Vegas, let me know.

Thoughts On Drinking Through A Straw?
LoryLosesXS replied to Seela's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use my Camelback sports bottle and gulp water and I've used a straw. Neither affect me. I believe we are all different. Try it a little and if it doesn't work....don't do it again. Doctors and nutritionist are not the end all be all. They are for the most part taking generalized studies and translating that information. Don't mind me.....I'm a person who always questions all aspects of information. Interesting what you will find. :-) best wishes!!! -
