  2. I live in Virginia and was just sleeved 8/31/13. I'm with you and couldn't afford $12-$15k and found Dr. Illan. Very happy that I did!!!
  3. that's true! Dr. Illan and his team are the best in MY opinion as a patient. From the hospital to the nurses to the surgeon team and of course Omar. Excellent every step of the way. I was sleeved 8/31/13 and would recommend him to my family & friends Good luck on your journey!!!! My pic is me and Dr. Illan.
  4. you'll be fine I'd love to go back but no time left from work.

Broke down in tears today when I found out my oop cost

    wish you much success!
  7. No there isn't. You may be able to get your coordinator to hold it while in surgery. Or get suitcase that you can put a lock on.
  8. I did all the research as well. Called patients by phone and facebook. Mexico was my only option price wise. As far as aftercare see if you Dr. will be available by skype? If you have any problems they should be willing to talk to you and advise you what to do. I know Dr. Illan will skype if requested. You have to have the peace to know you are making the right decision for you in the end. Good luck on your journey!

Do you have a 401k? You can borrow against that or withdrawal for weight loss surgery. You can do Mexico for around $4700.00 airfare and all.
  10. You can talk to them first and get some dates and then do priceline to name your own price for flight. One way to get a cheaper flight

    The Birth of Frankentummy

I found a 6 oz little mug and that helps me with my fluids. I don't feel overwhelmed with the size and sip, sip, sip. It takes me about 15 minutes to get that down. Good luck!

    Continuous improvement

I find some of the supports groups on FB are kinder and more supportive. I'll never understand why some people just need to be so mean spirited. Thanks for the words of wisdom
  15. When we were going back to San Diego to fly home I wasn't nervous about crossing the border. Our lucky US Border Patrol decided to ask what kind of surgery, don't I have insurance?, His Aunt had that surgery, WHY would I go to Mexico for that?. HELLO- the deal was done! Proof was in the pudding already Anyone else get any questions or comments?

  17. Did anyone have any UNWANTED comments for the US Border Patrols?

  18. only thing I can say is let him read about our experiences. You would NEVER know I had surgery. I feel so good and go back to work Monday. I'm sure my hubby would be okay if you wanted to private message me and exchange number to talk to your husband. As long as Omar was in charge of me I know my hubby would let me go back tomorrow alone for surgery. Best thing I've ever done for myself besides starting my beautiful family.
  19. My girls, ages 25 & 21, were both shocked when I told them of my plans. My hubby was behind me but wanted to make sure I had researched all I could. I chose not to tell my brother it was Mexico. they thought I had found a cheaper surgeon being self pay outside of San Diego. Once home I confessed where I had gone and everyone is okay. I explained I didn't need to worry about them worrying and I had no regrets of my decision. If anything had happened it was all on me. Surgery in itself is hard to tell and we all know that everyone has their own opinions whether they know anything about being overweight or not. A few friends at work know about both Mexico & the surgery. If anyone comes right out and asks.....I'll be honest. After seeing my pics and seeing me beam about my experience with Dr. Illan how can they not be okay. Best decision I've made thus far

    Back home from Tijuana

You'll like it! There are 2 main nurses and then younger nurses. The young ones are the ones that got my IV and it's hard to get an IV in me Don't hesitate to ask for ice or whatever you need. They will get you what you need. Best of luck!

    Back home from Tijuana

I had a wonderful experience! Who is your Dr? The nurses understand enough English that I didn't have any problems. Omar was my coordinator and took great care of us with getting fed and everything. Hospital is nice but rooms are ok. Clean but a little older. Once we started walking after surgery you can go out in the court yard. I didn't have any complaints about anything! You can read my blog if you want to see some pics. Sistersleeves@blogspot.com Best of luck! Hope you enjoy your trip to Tijuana as much as my hubby & I did!!!

  23. This is just something you have to know if right in your heart. I ask for something to calm my nerves right when they were about to take me to surgery. I can't tell you anything about the OR room I was flying............You will do great and don't fear going alone! You are in great hands!
