Nicotine, can't eat or drink
Sleeveland replied to Sleeveland's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I quit for a month (2 months before surgery) and it never got easier. I was edgy and craving all the time. I went about 16 hours the other day and felt better...and super hungry. I ordered new e-juice at half the nicotine I usually get and will start Chantix tomorrow. -
I just posted on here in an e-cig user and am 4 months post-op and having a ton of problems.

Flame away if you will, but I'm here looking for help. I never stopped using my e-cigarette and I'm regretting it. My surgery was almost 4 months ago. I have pain and discomfort in my stomach and esophagus. I can barely eat or drink. I am on antacids twice a day and nothing helps. I'm going to have some tests done to see if there's something else going on. But, is it safe to say this is the nicotine doing this to me? I'm going to pick up a Chantix prescription today. Wish me luck.

Help please, can't get protein, food intolerances
Sleeveland replied to Sleeveland's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks for the responses. While I wish discomfort on nobody, it's nice to know others can sympathize because they have the same experience. I felt horrible the first 5 weeks; worse every day. Like my brain was literally melting. I went to a support group for bariatric patients and not one of them said they had the energy drain, the heavy head, the dizziness that I had. In hindsight, I've had brain fog for years and never knew why. The surgery and the diet of mostly dairy exacerbated it. I'm thankful to have an answer. food intolerances are no joke. It's totally different than an allergy. Unfortunately they're not as easily tested or treated, either. The only thing to really do is find out what your intolerance is and to stop eating it. -

That sounds like a good idea. I haven't thought of that. Thank you. -

Thank you for all the responses. Catherine, I was wondering if drinking too soon and washing the food out prevents full digestion and absorption of nutrients and calories. It sounds like it worked for you... I may have to look into this. -

Anything dairy. No, I haven't tried whey isolate by itself. But, the whey powders I have mixed with Water makes me dizzy, same as the RTD shakes like Muscle Milk, Lean Body, Pure Protein, and Premier Protein. -

I'm pretty sure they're not dairy-free. -

But wouldn't the bars have whey or casein for Protein? -

Thanks Catherine. My NUT is away until next Monday; I sent her an email. I eat meat, but 3 oz. 3 times a day isn't much. If I were to snack in extra meat, that's another hour of no drinking per snack. That's where my challenge lies. -

I should specify more clearly... Whey Protein, egg protein, and all milk products make me heavy-headed and dizzy to the point that I can't even be a passenger in a car. Sorry I wasn't clearer. Thanks! -

The rice protein? It tastes like gritty play-doh no matter what I do to it. It's a chore to get it down. I can't have the other powders (see initial post). If I could just eat steak all day if be fine, but alas... -
I'm in my 7th week post-op. I recently discovered an intolerance to dairy (milk, whey, etc.) and eggs. My first 5 weeks of cottage cheese, yogurt, and whey Protein had me in a worsening dizzy brain fog. Once I gave that up, my brain and energy felt much better. I can't really eat that much, so I'm not getting enough protein. Egg protein powders make me feel woozy, too. Soy protein concerns me (I'm a male and Soy can give me too much estrogen, so I've heard) and Brown Rice protein is plain ol' undrinkable. shakes were my snack, I didn't have to give up drinking for an hour to have them, and they have me the protein my 6"1' frame needs. I lost twice as much as usual this week (7.2 lbs.) and I'm worried I'm not getting enough calories or protein. I've also been exhausted the past 2 days. What can I do? Thank you.

9 days post-op drinking question
Sleeveland replied to Sleeveland's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you. The Protein shakes are pretty easy. Most cold liquids do need to be drank slowly because they cause a little discomfort. But, the warm liquids, Soups, etc. go down so easily. I guess my main concern was that I drank 2 cups of miso broth last night with a packet of cream of chicken Soup mixed in in less than 10 minutes with no discomfort or sense of being full and correlated that to "my stomach's still too big and I'll gain may weight back..." I'm sure some of you can relate.
