I just had my gallbladder out a few weeks ago. It was my second attack, first attack was a few years ago but they didn't want to take it out, this time I said get it out! They did. No problem with being banded, in fact the surgeon checked my band while he was in there, said everything looked good. He does the band too. I had the surgery on saturday afternoon, home sunday morning, back to work on monday. No problems at all.

I too get hiccups regularly. I take it as a sign to stop! Sometimes it's just one really really loud one, and sometimes a series of them. But I truly think they are my signal to stop.

Did you tell your dr before the banding?
babs0101 replied to aidamone's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My primary also suggested it to me. Even suggested my surgeon. I got a lot of support from him and his staff. I certainly can't complain there. Best of luck to you. -
Crystal I had no problems at all with the surgery or recovery! No pain. I have not even taken any pain meds. I simply had none. I was amazed. I was rolled down to the OR around 3:00 Saturday afternoon. I was back in my room by 7:00pm, sipping water, hot tea, and broth. I was home by 10:30 am Sunday. Back to work on Tuesday AM. I could have gone into the office on Monday, but decided to just be lazy and relax for a day since I have time available from work anyway. But I'm here at work now and putting in full days and I'm totally fine. But I didn't take any time off from work when I got banded either. I had the surgery on Friday and was back to work on monday. I did however have trouble keeping most foods down the past few days and went in for a bit of an unfill. So I'm scheduled to go back in 2 weeks to get the fill put back in. I'm assuming it is just the swelling from the surgery that made me too tight. We will see!

Anyone Have A Natural Remedy for Heartburn?
babs0101 replied to SherryW's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went for my second unfill yesterday. I hope this helps. But over the weekend my gall bladder attacked me and had to be removed. So I of course have swelling from the surgery. But I couldn't keep anything down and the acid reflux was so bad, I called my doc and he did a little unfill. I'm scheduled to go back for a fill in 2 weeks. We will see. I'm now at 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band. I don't want to start "pigging" out. I liked the restriction I had prior to the unfill. But I will wait the 2 weeks and see how I feel. -
OH crap! I too have been eating around the band and didn't even realize it. I do choose the soft easy food because the hard protein is tough to get down. I will stop that. I've not lost any weight in a few weeks now, and perhaps it's because of choosing the softer easier foods to get down. Then I am looking for something to munch on in between meals. I'm glad I did read this thread, it was an eye opener for me!

I too think they should be picking their own songs. Songs that fit their style. Then they would all be good. I was not pleased with the show this week. I didn't care for the songs. And I'm a Neil Diamond fan! (my age is showing) Anyway, they did mention next week is Rock week. We will see.

I think it stinks that Jason is still on! I just think he is terrible!

I finally got to meet Dr. Haag. I had to have emergency surgery to have my gall bladder removed on Saturday and it was Dr. Haag that did the procedure. Really nice guy.

Anyone Have A Natural Remedy for Heartburn?

I sure could use some help with reflux too. Hope you all post your suggestions, I eat enough rolaids, tums, pepcid complete, and take a prescription to no avail. HELP! -
Does it bother you when people ask"how much weight have you lost"?
babs0101 replied to ssh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It doesn't bother me at all. I love the fact that I've lost over 80 lbs! I want them to notice and 80 lbs is alot and it just sounds good when I say it. Even if they ask me everyday, I say the same, just over 80 lbs. Until I hit 90 of course! In response to "I didn't realize you were that big", I just laugh and say I'll never will be again! -
Whats up with all the gas!!
babs0101 replied to iluvlongnecks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take some gas-x to help relieve the gas. It is normal and can stay with you for a few weeks. At times becoming uncomfortable. Hang in there, the gas will pass! -
Left Shoulder Pain...gas or something else?
babs0101 replied to Bea1128's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately the gas can last a few weeks. Mine did. It does sound like it is just gas, and I can only suggest you take some Gas-X to help. It will work its way out. Hang in there! And Congrats and welcome to band-land! -
Best of luck! It will all pass quickly and before you know it, a new you will be looking back at you in the mirror!

You need to contact your insurance and ask what the requirements are for lap-band. Each is a bit different, some won't cover it at all.

Go to the support meetings. They are awesome. And always feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to help any way I can. Not sure what I can do, but I can let you know my experience so far and provide encourgagement. The support meetings are really good.

Hi Meg, my daughters and I attended the Thursday night seminar as well. I know I requested Dr. Fiallo as he was recommended by my Primary, and Nicole (daughter) has gotten her first appointment and requested Dr. Fiallo. So I guess when they do call you can request which doctor you prefer. I really don't think it matters, but you do what makes you most comfortable. It's important.

Visit with Plastic Surgeon....journey has begun
babs0101 replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Becky, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya! I go for my first appointment with PS in May. I was wondering what to expect so thank you so very much for your post! Keep us informed! -
Slowing down, taking small bites, chew chew chew, and no drinking with meals was difficult for me as well. But keep at it. Don't even put a glass on the table for yourself. I use a small saucer size plate, small fork, and no glass. Even the kids know how to "set" my place when they set the table. I still eat too fast sometimes, or take a bite that is a bit too much, and trust me, it bites me back! But I do not drink during meals anymore. This doesn't even bother me now. I would never have guessed that back then! I make sure I stop at least a half hour before a meal, and usually I don't have anything until about an hour after. It's been working great so hang in there and it will become second nature to you soon enough! Best of Luck!

I tend to grind it up too and use as a spread. I add alittle light mayo and eat it just like that or I can put it on a piece of melba toast, pretzel chip, any thing crunchy. No soft breads or rolls for me, they get stuck big time!

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
babs0101 replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like this thread too. I can relate! I won't miss ~ *not sitting a booth at a resturant/having to ask for a table instead. *shopping at Lane Bryant *shopping at stores only if they have a plus department *not being out of breath each time I go up or down the stairs *being tired *being uncomfortable having sex because I was uncomfortable with myself. *back aches The list could go on and on. Great thread! -
My daughter who is 26 is on medicare and also has masshealth for insurance. Does medicare and masshealth cover lap-band. She is looking into it. She has some issues, like being bi-polar which is why she is on medicare. Any advise?

Every day is different for me. I think everything I eat has at one time or another gotten stuck. Lunch seems to be the best time for me, mornings I'm tight, oatmeal after 9 am is usually ok, sometimes some yogurt. Lunch is fairly open with some restrictions, no bread. Cant tolorate it at all. Dinner is touch and go. Sometimes I eat whatever the family is eating, and sometimes it just ain't gonna happen and I bring out the soup. Good thing i love soup!
