I could only wish my insurance required only 6 months.......I have to a year! I will get there, and so will you!
-
I too am on the MA/CT border, Westfield. I'm going through my program now and using Dr. Fiallo in Springfield.
-
I've got the radio on in my office. It is a mix station, Daughtery is singing his hit "home". Before that it was Nickleback
-
I wish my insurance require only 3 months. I have a full year of supervised diet and exercise. Already did the psych thing and cardio, and ekg, dietician, and so on, and so on, and yet I still have 10 months to go!
-
voodookitty, don't be so hard on yourself. I've seen those resin chairs soften and colapse several times. Not everyone on the chair was a "big" person. It has happened to those of average weight. Keep the faith, your day will come.
-
I can only imagine how happy you are. I can't wait until I can do the same! All in time. Keep posting your NSV's as I truly find them inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing!

I've had a fatty liver for years. Unfortunately it is usually the way with people who are over weight. I doubt it will stop you from being banded, my understanding is that it another reason to be banded.
-
I too have to go through a year of supervised dieting and all the crap before the insurance will consider me for lapband. I will wait and go through the requirements. I am trying to avoid self-pay. As for MM, don't believe everything you see in his movies. Alot of it is just plain old BS.
-
It was my PCP that recommended me getting the band. I have been with this Doc for years and he has documented all my stuggles with yo-yo dieting. My last check up he asked if I would at least check into banding. Even gave me the name of the surgeon who will be doing my surgery once I get approved by insurance. My Doc has been very supportive. Thank God!

I too am saving my pennies for when and if I need PS after losing my weight. I haven't even been banded yet, probably not until next year because of insurance requirements. Then a year or so after that before PS. I have started NOW to save for the PS if I need it. I even told DH I was not buying a new motorcycle since the one I have is almost paid off. Then that money will go into the PS fund as well. Yup, I'm gonna get there! -
Congrats! I have Health New England and they require I do a year of supervised diet! Good Luck!
-
Hi Harriet! I have attended the support groups. I am going to go again and again too! I found them interesting and very informative. Thanks! I will be seeing you soon!
-
I'm Barbara, and I just started my journey in May. I will have my surgery done at Baystate in Springfield by Dr. Fiallo. I have no date yet as I have Health New England and they require a year of doc supervised diet. I have most of my other appointments done........I just have to wait, and wait, and wait.

The Qualification Process

I have to do a supervised diet for a year. I have no hope of being banded before May or June of 2008! But I'm gonna keep plugging away.......if I don't then I know next year I will be sitting here wishing I did it then! -
I have/had a bladder control issue. Whenever I sneezed, coughed, laughed, I'd "leak". Enough so that I was wearing a sanitary napkin every day to prevent my leaking on my clothes. I complained to my doc a few times and finally he sent me to surgeon and they put a "hammock/sling" in. This gives my bladder support so I don't leak when sneezing etc. It's been a life saver!

I just came back from seeing the "exercise specialist". I am so frustrated and confused and I have to admit discouraged too! He tells me in order to get to my goal weight I need to change my eating habits (I GET THAT) and that I need to exercise (I GET THAT). He is telling me that if I follow his instructions my BMI will reduce and I will be down to my goal weight and I won't need the lapband and the insurance will not approve me. Since I started this adventure in May, I have attended seminars, support groups, seen the surgeon, the Weight Loss Specialist, the Dietician, the Psych, and now the Exercise specialist. All of which have a $40.00 copay with my insurance each time I walk in the door. Now my gripe is not the money. But what burns my A** is some skinny dude sitting across the desk from me telling me I need to make changes. I know that, I got it. I've tried. I've had a weight issue since I was 12 years old. Does he think I just now decided to try to do something about it? I've done all the "diets" and I lose, no problem. Keeping it off is another story, I yo-yo and gain it back and more! Does he think if I could do it on my own I would be wanting the lapband to begin with? I lost 10 pound since June 11th. I am trying. He wants me to lose another 10 in the 8 weeks I'm due to go back. I can do that. But 36 years of weight issues have taught me that my weight loss is temporary. I fear this guy is not on my side where the lapband is concerned. I'm really discouraged!
-
Thanks so much for the support, you got me laughing and I needed that! I will send him here! I'm going to see my surgeon again before I see this butthead so I will have a heart to heart with my Dr. about it all. Thanks again!
-
I started my supervised diet in June, and I have already been to the surgeon, nutritionist, dietician, exercise specialist, and psych. And I have to wait a year before my insurance will cover me?? In the meantime, I have to keep going back to these people. Yup, my insurance is paying for those visits.
-
That is exactly what I asked! He says my insurance won't approve my banding if my BMI is low. And from what I understand I do have to complete a full year. Why doesn't this guy just tell me which exercises are best with the band so I do them now. Why not discuss foods and how to eat when I get the band. I get that I have to lose some weight for my liver....but I also know that my weight lose will be for a short time without the band. I have been fat for 36 years or more!
-
I have to lose 10% of my body weight. I have to lose 27 pounds. I'm a third there! I have to go to this guy because he works with the Weight loss specialist doctor. Per my insurance I have to do a year of medically supervised dieting to be approved. I am so bummed!
-
wanabthin, congrats on your date! You are so lucky to have things move forward with such speed. I went to my first seminar in May and I will have to wait a year before I get a date! And yes, I am pulling my hair out! Best of Luck to you.

I've started. I saw the surgeon in May, and so it began. I've lost a couple of pounds so it is a start. A year is a long way off......but I also know that if I don't do it now, a year from now I will be wishing I had started!
