November buddies where are you?
IdahoGirl32 replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved Nov 25 and I'm down 75 lbs. The weight loss has slowed quite a bit now. -
I think sleeve is used for people who don't have as much to lose, or who are young and don't have as many comorbidities making it more urgent to lose weight. Because you don't lose as fast with sleeve. Also, with bypass you'll have dumping syndrome if you eat sweets. Some people report dumping with sleeve, but it's not common. I was never a sweets-eater, so I knew sleeve was probably fine for me. Recovery is easy and it does have less risk of complication. So far so good! 4 months out and 75 lbs down!

What am i doing wrong?
IdahoGirl32 replied to Zoumommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved in November and I never get the "satisfied" feeling. I never get hungry either. Waiting now ranges from "meh" to uncomfortable. Not a bad thing though. Its nice to feel like I have power over food rather than the other way around. -
Heartburn - Does it get better?
IdahoGirl32 replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 12 weeks out and only have to take my antacid every few days or so. It depends a lot on what I eat. -
Throwing up most everything I eat or drink.
IdahoGirl32 replied to hectorssis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a little juice with real sugar cut with water. It'll be high carb so you can't get into the habit of it but it really helped me get liquids in early on. It just goes down and sits easier. -
my missing stomach
IdahoGirl32 replied to marymary1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, the thought of having a foreign object in me was way freakier than having stomach removed! Its probably the permanence of it that's getting to you. You can't just get that stomach replaced! So, nervousness is understandable. If it helps, you barely notice its gone...except the whole three bites and you're full thing. -
I was the exact same. Getting maybe 200 calories in. You just have to keep trying. Try chewing on Jerky, drink juice, experiment with a lot of different things until you find something you can tolerate. It'll pass, you just have to get through it!
-
YES! I went through the exact same thing. I was fine for the first 4 weeks and then the 5th and 6th week I couldn't eat anything without feeling really sick, I couldn't drink anything on an empty stomach. It was so bad. I still don't even know what the issue was, but one day, after about two weeks, I woke up and felt fine. So, I have no idea what's wrong, but I can tell you that it will pass. I empathize with you, though, it really does suck. I got really dehydrated during this time, so my advice would be to mix Water with juice (I know it has a lot of sugar, but you do what you have to do) and drink that. It went down so much easier and helped me not get too dehydrated. Plus, it's gets you some calories since you don't want to eat anything.

Day 3 post op - hungry
IdahoGirl32 replied to Feeling hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was feeling "hunger" post op, too. But I upped my omeprazole and it went away. I think I associated that acidic feeling with hunger, so I thought that's what it was. You are probably not actually hungry. Try upping your acid meds...or just remember to take them regularly. -
unflavored protein?
IdahoGirl32 replied to newme101513's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can totally taste it. I do not recommend! I would do the vanilla and put it in smoothies. That's the only way I can mask the flavor. Bleh. -
4 days post-op Having trouble getting protein
IdahoGirl32 replied to night_owl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't even worry about it. Focus on getting fluids in right now and adjusting to the way your new stomach feels! The best thing to do is go to a Vitamin shoppe or GNC and get samples of a bunch of different Protein powders and shakes - you can buy individuals of several brands - and try them. You'll eventually find something that works for you. BUT be prepared for your taste to change again and you'll have to do that all over again in a few weeks and find another that works. -
Has anyone used the Liquid Protein drops?
IdahoGirl32 replied to getnfit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I bought a bunch of these for post-op and they're absolutely disgusting. Seriously. Don't waste your money. They're thick like maple syrup and sickly sweet. Plan on regular old Protein shakes and later post-op, Protein Bars. Also, it's misleading that they call them protein shots. I was thinking it would be really small but they're huge. And, did I mention, sooooooo gross. Blech. It makes me shudder just thinking about them. -
Nausea & Aversion to Food 4 wks Out
IdahoGirl32 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Sleevers, Help? At about 4 weeks out from surgery, I went from being able to comfortably eat my Protein shakes and little bits of soft food, to feeling nauseated almost constantly. The though of putting anything in my mouth makes me gag. It's been a little better in the past couple of days - I feel like I've got small windows (usually 2) in the day when I can eat something, but it can't just be anything, it has to be something sweet. For example, if I drink Water plain, it makes me really nauseated. This was never a problem for me before - I love water! Lately, the only way I can get it down is to mix it with cranberry juice. chicken and other meat has become way too heavy for me, and I can no longer tolerate my Protein Shakes. As a result of all this, I've been getting about 200 calories per day for the past 5-6 days and not even close to the amount of protein I need. Has anyone else had this problem? I've started taking both Omeprazole and Zantac, thinking it was acid. I burp a lot, so I've been taking gas-x for gas. I was thinking maybe I developed an issue with dairy, so I cut that out but it didn't help. Any advice or insight? I'm really starting to worry about getting so little calories and, on average, only 15g of protein. Thanks. -
If was approved for me after sleeve because I got a terrible cold. I took it and did fine. That said, you shouldn't get into the habit of taking that stuff to sleep. Its got a lot of other meds in it that you don't need and it just makes things harder on your body while trying to heal.

Im a cheater...am i screwed?
IdahoGirl32 replied to jewintheridge's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The most important thing is to REALLY NOT CHEAT the three days before surgery. Some people have plans where they can eat healthy meals up until three days before surgery, but there are almost no plans that say it's ok to have solids those three days before surgery. If you need to cheat, do it with a little Protein or yogurt. But, make sure those three days are totally cheat-free. You would hate yourself if you got a complication and it could have been prevented by having just a little more will-power. -
Post-Op care following surgery in Mexico
IdahoGirl32 replied to mona832's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery in Mexico on Nov 25 and my regular family doctor is doing my follow-up. I had an appointment with her about a week after surgery and she checked my incisions and took a look at all the info I brought back from Mexico. I'm going to go see her every 4 months for labs. This is in Idaho, not in Texas, but I bet you can find just a regular general doctor to do follow up. If you ended up with complications, then you'd need to find an actual bariatric practice, so you might just want to have that contact info taped up on the fridge or something, just in case! -
Every time you wake up in the morning is a chance to start over and be the person you want to be. When I find myself wanting something that aI know I'll feel bad about eating later, I just remind myself that people have wanted things a lot Kore than I want that french fry and lived without it. You are stronger than you realize - tomorrow is a new day!

Question About Epidural And Catheter
IdahoGirl32 replied to Georgiagirl27's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery with Dr. Illan too, but I researched a lot of different surgeons and I can't think of a single one that I looked into that uses an epidural. Great thing about Dr. Illan, too, is that there is no drain. I'm not a big fan of drains. -
Gained Weight? Anyone?
IdahoGirl32 replied to meaganchuckran's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's such a small amount! It could just be Water weight, or PMS? I'm sure you didn't mess anything up. Just stick to your plan! -
I had to take progesterone too, for the same reason. But, I only had to take it for 10 days. If you don't go on birth control right after the progesterone, you will have the worst period you've ever had. EVER. I went through 12-15 of those huge overnight pads per day and this went on for about 8 days. I was anemic by the time it was over. I had to get those pads to protect the bed at night. I bled on my couch several times. Plus, it hurts. Bad. Maybe it's just my body that reacts this way, but be prepared! !!! When your body tries to clean out all that built up lining, it really means business!

It's interesting how differently I'm treated these days
IdahoGirl32 replied to pinkpeonies's topic in The Lounge
I've no doubt that I'm treated differently because of my weight. I've noticed that people are really careful about anything concerning food or weight around fat people. It's weird. I'm one of those people who looks REALLY different without makeup and my hair done. If I go to the store without makeup and in my sweat pants, I get such a different reaction than if I go in right after work all dressed up. I'm so aware of the difference that I will literally do my hair and put on some makeup before going to the doctor or even the emergency room because I know how they treat people who look like they're low income or like they don't take care of themselves. It's crazy. It's amazing how much better service a little lipgloss and mascara can get you.
