What do you watch on Netflix?

I highly recommend Orange and is the New Black!
  2. Congratulations!! I'm crossing my fingers for healthy mother and baby! Post pictures when you get a chance!!
  3. Less risk of complications with the sleeve, similar amount of weightloss, less restriction on kinds of foods you can eat long-term, less risk of malnutrition during pregnancy and old age.

Pain on left side under ribs

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to take ibuprofen after sleeve surgery, so you may want to check into that. It can cause ulcers.

    Tomorrow is the day

Congratulations! I'm glad all went well!

    Worried about complications?

It would be absolutely foolish not to consider the risks and complications for any surgery. Particularly since certain conditions increase the risk of complications, and complications are something you have to be prepared for, emotionally and logistically (money, work, family support, etc.) Feel free not to click on the link, but I'm not sure how you gathered from my post that I wasn't aware of the risks of obesity. Clearly I am, or I wouldn't have researched, considered, and scheduled surgery. You can "pray" for no complications all you want, but it doesn't do anybody any good not to have a realistic idea of the chances of developing a complication from this, or any other, procedure.
  7. I have been really worried about having complications after my surgery in November! I came across this website and thought I'd share. You can enter your stats and some health info and it will tell you the risk of your surgery. When entering the surgery type, just type "sleeve" and it'll pop up. http://riskcalculator.facs.org

    Worried about complications?

Ack! I meant to post this in the pre-op section. Can I move it?

    Upset...

I've tested it out telling a few people. One, a friend who loves medical stuff - you know the type that watches surgeries on TV and thinks they're cool. lol And the other is a friend who is about my size and got suspicious because i was giving her all of my summer clothes because I know I'm not going to fit into them next summer. (So excited to say that!). I knew she would understand why I'm doing this. I told HR at work. Didn't realize I could just say "abdominal surgery"...I may have done that. Rebeca - fellow Doctor Who fan!!

    average weight loss at 6mths

AAAaaah! This is very exciting! I'm getting sleeved Nov 25! So...on May 25, I could be 100 pounds down! Woot!

    Sidelined by a UTI! Help!

Yep, this exact thing happened to me when I had surgery for appendicitis. I haven't been sleeved yet. When they took the catheter out, I got a UTI. It was horrible. The cipro will fix it. I don't think it'll affect your weight loss.

2/3 of the way to goal

    Wow! You look amazing!

    November buddies where are you?

    Yay! I sure hope so.
  14. I've heard some people say they bring packets of protein chicken soup mix because you can make it with hot water from your coffee maker and save yourself a few bucks buying it while you're at the hotel.
  15. Heck yes! I would love a free dining set with purchase of a perfume! I didn't even think about this, but I bet I can get my favorite perfume cheaper in TJ - and I'm almost out! Maybe I'll hold out until November and cross my fingers for some free dishes! lol
  16. Well, I'm glad you went to the ER, though it doesn't seem like they were very helpful. How does he not at least know the difference between types of wls??! I would definitely question why they put EKG on your discharge papers, maybe cutting corners? I'd definitely make sure they don't bill you for that. Actually, if it were me, I'd call the ER right now and tell them it says EKG on your discharge sheet and you want to make sure you weren't supposed to get one. That rash definitely looks like hives to me...I get them frequently for all sorts of crazy reasons (sun, wind, plants, stress, the list goes on). Benadryl will help, but I'm not sure you can take it with sleeve...? Sounds like the most important thing is to start trying to cough that stuff up. Big, deep coughs. If it doesn't feel like anything is moving when you cough, maybe sit in a steamy bathroom for 5 - 10 minutes, then try again. I'm glad you're seeing your regular doctor on Tuesday. Sounds like you need to talk to an expert. Thanks for updating us, and I hope you feel better soooooooon!

    Funding Option (no insurance)

You may be able to get a personal loan through a credit union. I was able to get a really good interest rate through my credit union and they can be pretty flexible with credit scores because they make the decisions locally.

    seeing friends

Well, I do a lot of reading, but this directly applies to me and I think today was the perfect day for me to hear it! So thanks! Now, I'm going to do my hair and go downtown with my husband.

Lipstick Lady, that's seriously the best thing I've ever read.

    seeing friends

Not at all! I was just thinking about this. I have surgery scheduled for the end of November and I'm avoiding my friends and family. It seems crazy, but I kind of want to hide out in my house and emerge a whole new person. I was thinking that when you're fat and you don't have any reason to think you're going to get thinner, since all your diets failed, you just go with it and try not to worry about how others see you because there's nothing you can do about it. Now that I know that things ARE going to change (and soon!) I feel like I don't want people to see me fat! Because I'm not going to be fat forever, and I don't have to accept it! Crazy.

    Tmi sorry but need help

    Immodium is a life saver.
  22. I think I agree with snow. I know you don't have a cough, but CAN you cough? Can you cough really deep and try to clear what's in your lungs? You need to try! This can escalate really quickly and I don't think Tuesday is soon enough. Write down all of these symptoms you've mentioned and head over to the ER! I say write them down because in the hustle and bustle of the ER, it's easy for forget to mention a symptom that could tie all the other ones together. This can be the difference between them taking you seriously and not. So go!! Please!

    NSV for me!

    That's amazing! Congratulations!

    My brain

I think fear of leaving your children is perfectly natural. I think I'd be more worried about your state of mind if you weren't scared of the worst-case-scenario. Only you can know if you're ready for this step. So, while it's important to take into consideration the thoughts of those of us seeing your journey from the outside, you ultimately have to trust yourself to make the right decision for you. When making my decision, I found that my head was swimming from all of the information (and negativity) on these forums. I found myself looking at this life change through the lens of other peoples' struggles. It may be a good idea to step away from the keyboard for a while and just really consider how this change will affect your life. Again, the risks are very low, but not absent. If, in your mind (not anyone elses!) the risks are not worth the benefits, don't do this. If you feel like the benefits in your life outweigh the possibility of complications, then go for it! Again, may be a good idea to step away from these forums for a while. I think they can be a little toxic sometimes, unfortunately.
