    My Primary Doctor was PISSED

My PCP has counseled (ie: nagged) me about my weight for years. When I went to her to talk about bariatric surgery I was prepared for her to not be supportive. I am not really sure why... Perhaps because she has always been 100lbs soaking wet with boots on! I was ready to walk out the door for good, but to my surprise, she was all for it! I am ever so grateful for that.

    Newbie

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I am early in the game also (just had my one month med supervised diet visit today) and I am obsessed as well. I have created a binder that contains all my medical records, surgeon's forms, surgeons's bariatric guide, blank forms for my GP to fill out every month, questions to ask my surgeon, motivational quotes, etc... : ) every time my boyfriend walks by me with my ipad, he smiles and says "Lemme guess what website you're on?" Hahaha.
  5. I am curious about anyone out there with a 35-40 BMI (with comorbidities) that were approved for surgery. Did the approval process go smoothly, or were you denied and have to appeal? Was anyone approved that had a below 35 BMI in your 3-5 year history? When submitting your history can you just skip a year and supplement with photos? Any advice is super appreciated!
  6. Awesome. Thanks for all the info, ya'll. ; )
  7. I have my 2nd of 6 doctor supervised visits scheduled for next week (per insurance.) Ugh! Time is crawling. It took me a long time to come to this decision and now it feels like everything has come to a screeching halt. I am so ready for this process to be underway already. It's all I think about.
  8. I love to hear people's hope and inspirations for getting thin! They are all so diverse and interesting! I thought of another one yesterday. I can't wait to wear a pair of cute little overalls and not look like the broad side of a barn! Lol! Can you tell I am from the south? Hahaha. Really though, years ago I remember wearing a pair of overalls from Old Navy. And I just loved them. Wore a snug cap sleeve shirt underneath. They made me feel young. Lets hope they have the same effect in the future! : )
  9. PattyGee, what's the name of the book? I am very interested in reading it also. : )

    And, now the wait

Good luck, PattyGee!!! I know you are so excited!!! : ) onedaycloser: I am right there with ya! I have 5 more visits also! Ugh!!! I am ready for a time warp.
  11. I know! The paperwork is daunting! I have finally collected all mine and its all just sitting there waiting to turn in when I finish my dr visits. Tick tock tick tock. LOL!
  12. Hello all! I have lurked here for quite a while - soaking up a wealth of knowledge. My first appointment with my surgeon is today so I thought I would join in the fun. I am 44, have a BMI of 39, high blood pressure, prediabetes, and osteoarthritis. I am super nervous about getting my surgery covered by bcbs. I have 7 years of medical records. One of those years (within the last 3) my BMI dipped below 35. So my physician and I have decided to not include that record in the submission to insurance and supplement with photos. Hopefully my comorbidities and recent diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease will help my case. Ugh! The thought of being denied after all this hard work and hoop jumping... makes me want to cry... and I still have 5 months to go. Yikes! I am hoping for an informative, positive, motivational meeting with my surgeon today. Here's to the start of a life changing journey.
  13. Thanks y'all. Everything went well Thursday. I am on schedule to have my surgery in December if all goes as planned. I would love to take off work during the holidays so I won't have to use as many vacation days! Time is gonna go so sloooow! Ugh! Thanks for the concern about PKD. I haven't had any symptoms yet. In fact, my mom (who I got it from) never knew she had it. We only surmised this after her death from COPD because of other family members' diagnosis. So I hope to follow in her footsteps and never have any problems! Fingers crossed. My doctor did recommend the sleeve instead of the bypass. I hadn't seriously considered it until now. His reasoning was that I am "only" 100lbs overweight and I would have less issue with nutritional deficiencies - which is big concern for me especially with PKD. So now I am researching the sleeve. He said he would do either operation I decided on, but when asked for his recommendation, he said the sleeve. And I highly value is opinion. He removed my gallbladder years ago - and I was very impressed by his expertise AND bedside manner. So the journey continues... : )
