Hi Sherry--you are my INSPIRATION, so don't be discouraged. You're past the road block now. Thanks for asking about the infection--as you know I was in hosp for five days and had to return to see Dr Jones the following week. Tests showed I was still battling an infection, so I was on ANOTHER 10 days of antibiodics. YUK! SInce then I have recovered completely and even had a first fill. Dealing with learning what and how I can eat. I'm still down only 19lbs from first weigh-in, but weight will start coming off again, I hope! Has anyone else dealt with a much lowered eenergy level? Still need a nap most days. As you said, "It's baby steps . . ." Lorna

Thank you so much, Chrispy. I probably had more than 1000 calories today, but did take control of my eating by consuming food only at mealtimes and two snack times. Overall, I ate much less today than yesterday. I don't get a fill until mid-September. Lorna

:help: Hi Everyone, I've read through all the pages of this thread looking for some evidence that I have not goofed myself up. I'm panicking! I was banded on July 23, in hospital for five days (due to complications) on liquids;Stage 3 at home with some cheating and I have lost almost 20lbs since preop diet. Now on stage 4, I feel like I can eat way too much food--almost as much as before banding. Have I already expanded the pouch? :faint:Since I have no fill, is the food passing into the rest of the stomach? Last night I ate two spring rolls. a whole order of crispy shrimp without a problem. At home I continued the eating with crackers and popsicles. I'm just an eating machine.:omg: Has anyone else experienced this? Today I am watching everything I eat and keeping below 800-1000 calories, but I'm scared. I will call BIDMC on Monday, but I so want to know what you all think. Lorna

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Great work, Anna! I go on Wednesday to the nutritionist and will probably be on mushies then, too. Though I have cheated here and there and here and there--Lipton Noodle soup (with the noodles), crispy toast (a tough one!) , crackers, fruit, I've still lost 18lbs since preop diet. I'm overjoyed--237.5 to 219.5. I must say I wept a bit on moving out of the 20's. Moving into the 100's may be cause for SOBS of joy!!!! I walk every day and soon I will be back on the tennis court, so that helps the little transgressions. I do have great fear of the old head hunger habits creeping in. I've had a therapist for the last two months whom I will see again tomorrow. She's GREAT! Good luck everyone--the best is yet to come!!!! Lorna

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Hello Everyone, what a great group! I was banded at Beth Israel Deaconess hospital on July 23. Unfortunately, because of adhesions from previous surgeries, the doctor had a great deal of difficulty separating intestine from muscle/fat, etc. During this process he made a hole in my small intestine. :rain: After multiple flushings and consultations with other surgeons, Dr. Jones decided to risk putting in the lap band. If there was going to be a problem with infection, the band itself would be a prime target. He chose not to fix the hiatal hernia. I was in the hospital for FIVE days and came home with heavy doses of antibiotics. I returned the following week, still harboring an above normal blood count and low-grade fever. :sick I am just finishing the second round of antibiotics. I seem okay now. Obviously, I was on clear liquids all five days in the hospital. I've done the liquid phase at home (protein drinks, soup, applesauce, yogurt etc.) BUT I have cheated here and there with small quantities of fruit, some crackers, two bites of pizza, Lipton noodle soup and even a half scoop of ice cream. I do feel restriction. though and I've lost a total of 17 lbs since my preop diet to today. On Wenesday, I should be moving on to Stage 3 diet. I won't be having a fill until mid -September. The positive side of all this is that I felt very little pain--didn 't use any pain meds from day 1, I have the band, and I've lost weight. Good luck to all of us--the jouney begins . . .:clap2: lorna I won't be so wordy in the future!

Dear Maureen (Metalband), I am feeling much stronger now , seven days home and twelve days post op. Saw Dr. Jones on Wednesday--lab tests indicate that I am still harboring an infection. On another 10 days of antibiodics. Unless I can clear infection, band will have to come out. Yikes!!! Otherwise, I'm doing okay, feeling stronger and comsuming liquids with ease. I return to Dr. Jones on August 15. I wish the other two Jul33 bandsters ther best> How's it going? Lorna

Hi All! I am so glad that both Lahey surgeries went well. Unfortunately I don't have the same to report! Dr. jones found so many adhesions from previous surgeries that he was forced to separate colon from fat layer and intestines from each other. He couldn't get to the hiatal hernia and consulted an entire team about placing the lap band after PERFORATING a small intestine. The surgery on the 23rd took 5 hours. If an infection develops, there will be more surgery and the band will be removed. I just arrived home today. It's good to be here. Looks like I'm in the clear right now. I need your support. Lorna
