  1. Turned down for health insurance for being healthier?????? I can't believe it. Down 70 lbs., taking less meds and just got denied a health insurance policy through Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I am forming a plan of attack and will keep you posted. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

  2. That is truly amazing. You go girl.

Calling Cheri CLK and other vets!

Please don't you dare feel like a falure!!! 2.7 pounds a week is great and by your own admission more than you have lost in the past. Every person travels this jouney at a pace that is right for thier body. I would not let the doctor be discouraging and if he is any kind of doctor at all he will also see and be glad for your progress. Please, please do not let the demons of the weight which ruled your life prior do this surgery do so again. You have and will continue to see yourself in a positive light and become the person outside that you have always been on the inside. I am 1 year and 7 months out and although I did not get down to what the charts say I should be it is fine with me and my surgeon. Every person is so individual and I have maintained a healthy weight for over a year now. This is just your old voices in your head talking. Do not let these voices or anyone elses hold you back. All my best Babs
  4. Dr. Umbach and staff are really wonderful. I am a year and a half out and doing great! Everything was explained and I was truly lucky not to have had any complications. I can eat most anything and have maintained a 70lb. weight loss for over a year now. I flew to Las Vegas from Florida because of his reputation and the fact that he was written up in a major medical magazine for his service and he runs a center of excellance. All good things and he is a genuinely caring doctor. It reflects in his staff as well and I would do it all over again. All my best Babs J
  5. Can anyone respond if they have or have not had a problem with getting health insurance acceptance since their sleeve surgery? I have recently had to forgo the insurance with my company because of costs and am applying as an individual. I had my surgery De. 2011 and have not had any complications at all. Down 70 lbs and only taking my blood pressure meds every other day now!! Yeah!! I will never be called skinny but am at a more normal weight and feel wonderful. I worry that the insurance company will not understand the benifits and see it as a problem. Any thoughts? Thanks Babs

    chinese food

Hi all. You might try your beloved Chinese food again at a later date. Seems some people have a problem with one kind of food or another in the first few months but at a later time are able to tolerate better. Just a thought.

    Extra large stomach organ

I had my sleeve done Dec. 2011 and at my appointment with the Dr. 3 days later he too said "Your stomach was not just large, it was HUGH" I just though it was from my overeating for so many years so I am glad to know that it may have just been that way all my life. I love having the sleeve and the control it gives me for portions and listen to my new much smaller stomach when it says I'm full.
