  1. Hey Vixie. I am in on week 4 of Optifast. I go through bouts of nausea and sickness on this diet - but it they are far less intense than during my first week. My doc prescribed me some Somac to help settle my stomach (not sure what it's called in the US) but it has really helped. I also have some eggwhites made up into an omelette every second day because the Protein fills me up and makes me feel less bloated  Good luck with it all! Steve
  2. Hey Marga. I'm in Canberra. I don't know why he wants me to be on it for 5 weeks - could be because when I went for my last appointment he said "i don't think you really know what you want". So maybe he's testing me to see if I'm really committed.. If that is the case - he will be laughing on the other side of his face when I waltz in there for my pre-surg and I've lost 30 kilos LOL. The person who runs the support group here in Canberra told me I can have an egg every now and again - so that is my great white hope (pardon the pun). Hopefully that will see me thru and get rid of some of this crappy nausea.:sick Steve
  3. Hey there I too am on the pre-op diet. Still 5 weeks out from my surgery - but I have to do Optifast for 5 weeks. It sounds like in America they make you do some kind of high Protein low carb diet and then put you on liquid 10 days prior to surgery (is this correct?) I am on day 5 of my Optifast diet and am really sceptical about my ability to stay on it for 5 weeks. I feel constantly nauseous and am still exhausted. I just feel disgusting. I was thinking about eating an egg, but don't know if that will screw up the optifast diet. Blerrghhghg. I think part of my challenge is switching my mind off - the last 4 days have felt like 2 weeks....:help:
  4. Hey Marga. It's my understanding that the carb content in the optifast program is low enough to make you go into Ketosis, and that is the main process for reducing the size of the liver to make the surgery safer. Whatever the case may be, it SUCKS! But I guess I should try to get out of this negative frame of mind because it becomes all-consuming.
  5. Hey all Well I am now on Day 4 of the optifast and am still feeling like total crap. I just cant' shake this nausea. I feel like going and buying a loaf of bread and eating the whole damn thing. Does anyone know if eating an egg would upset the optifast diet? It's basically pure protein so shouldn't put me out of ketosis - was thinking that might help me to feel fuller without spoiling the diet completely. And thanks to everyone else who's posted saying they're on their pre-op diets too - it's good to know there are others out there going through the same thing!
  6. Hey all I'm in Australia, and on my second day of the 'OptiFast' diet. I have to do it for 5 weeks, yes you heard right, 5 WEEKS. I honestly don't know if i can go through with it for 5 weeeks without breaking. I know that you're meant to feel better after 3-4 days but i'm finding it REALLY hard. GAH!
