Missouri....St. Charles County Sleevers
Pat in STL replied to SpecialNewMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi CathyLynn....I have heard good things about Dr Ricks as well. You will do just fine. I was actually shocked at how easy the actual surgery was. I also had a hernia repaired at the time of surgery. When I left the hospital they sent me on my way with a pain med, nausea med, and an antacid. I only filled the pain and nausea meds, and have not taken either since I have been home. Did not need any of it! I will tell you to stock up on Popsicles!!! This has been, and still is my saving grace. For me, I was not able to drink the amt of Water I was accustom to, and the Popsicles really helped. Also, I am such a picky, picky eater......again, the Popsicles saved me when I was on straight liquids. I can't stand any of the drops you put in water. I like my water plain. Also I was a huge Diet Pepsi drinker......so all I was able to do was sip water.....again.....Popsicles. One thing......I tried Schnucks, Shop n' Save and Dierbergs dor sugar free Bomb Pops (this is what the have at the hospital, and my favorite), but I could not find sugar free. I went ahead and got the regular, as they are only 40 calories. Since you are not getting much in the first couple weeks, I did not feel it mattered. I have lost 52lbs, and stii continue to eat the regular bomb pops. Every time I buy the, I do look for sugar free, but I have yet to be able to find them. I think I will be able to get them, as the warmer weather gets here. Let me know if you have any questions! -

Hi All.....I had my sleeve surgery on 2/4/2014. I remember one of the first things I told the nurse......my stomach is growling like I am hungry......and I can't tell if I am. Well here I am 10 weeks later and having this stomach growling worse than ever. The funny thing is, it starts as soon as I eat anything! If I don't eat, I don't have my stomach yelling at me!! When I do eat, I just don't feel like I get any satisfaction. I make sure I am getting entry of Protein. This is my main item during my meals. So much so, that sometimes this is all I able to get in. I thought the protein was suppose to keep me full longer. There just is no satisfaction, and the stomach grumbling is awful. Last visit to the doctors, they told me this is normal. I just don't feel it is. Has anyone experienced this or something similar? Thanks

Really bad lower back pain around 12 days post op
Pat in STL replied to nona1414's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 2/4, and last week I was experiencing horrible lower back pain that wrapped around my side. I finally went to the emergency room , only to find out I had Kidney stones. I was told by a nurse that too much Protein can cause the stones. I have been a stickler at getting my protein in. Since this ER visit, I have dropped the Amy of protein I am taking in. Also really, really pushing Water. Water has been my biggest issue. I was used to drinking south water in a day prior to the surgery, and I just cannot get that much in me in a day. Watch this pain... Could be something serious. Don't wait too long to have it checked out. -
Hi Pinksjo1.....I live in the St. Charles area and am not interested in driving to Collinsville, however I am interested in joining a group closer to home. Please let me know if you find anything closer. I had my Sleeve surgery Feb 4, 2014 at Des Peres hospital by Dr. Scott. Doing well, but would like a local support group.

Hi All... Just posted to another site similar to this thread.... I live in St Peters, and would love to meet up somewhere for a support group. I had my sleeve surgery on Feb 4, 2014 through Des Peres Hospital. Dr. Scott was my surgeon. He is the only reason I went there. I do not go out there for the support groups as they really. Don't fit my schedule. However I do feel it is much needed in order to have success . Is anyone interested in meeting? I will be happy to get something together if anyone is interested. Let me know. Thanks. -
Hi all. I live in the st. Charles area. I had my sleeve surgery on Feb 4. Dr Scott did the procedure at Des Peres Hospital. (My New Life). I would love to get a support group together. I don't go out to Des Peres for their support group as it is a good distance from my house. I have not had any major issues, however I do have things I would love to compare with others, or find out of they are going through the same thing. I.e.....Stomach Grumbles....this is terrible. As soon as I eat anything, my stomach acts as if I am starving and I just can't get it to stop. I almost would rather not eat, and I know this is not healthy.

Hi all....I am a newbie!!! 54, and I live in St. Louis. I started my journey in March......received conditional approval from my insurance co. I have completed the 3 months of a monitored weight loss program from my primary care dr. I have had my psych evaluation, (passed with flying colors!), met with the nutritionist, and met with my surgeon who will perform the sleeve surgery. July 3rd I am scheduled for a scope of my stomach to be done, a pulmonary function test, a Doppler test of discoloration on my legs from diabetes, and some blood work. Doctors office told me after all the results ate in, they submit everything back to the insurance company for final approval. I was told this usually takes about 2 weeks. They told me once they receive the approval I will be scheduled 2 weeks out. So I am hoping for a late July or early August surgery. I am extremely excited!! A little nervous....not really sure why?? I just can't wait to start feeling healthier, and be able to climb a flight of stairs without being out of breath. I just stumbled upon this site while looking up bariatric vitamins.....so glad I found this! I look forward to sharing not only my journey, but all yours as well. Good luck to everyone. Any tips or pointers are welcomed!

I am hoping I can do my support group at DePaul. It is a lot closer for me since I live in St. Peter's. Thanks for the info. -
My New Self - Saint Louis, MO **HELP**
Pat in STL replied to MizzouGirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi All, I do not have my exact date yet, but I am having the Sleeve surgery at Des Peres as well. I did a lot of research on doctors and chose Dr. Scott. I am so happy to her all these wonderful comments about him. I have had to call the office several times, and have not had any issues. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I barely sat down on my first visit last week, and my name was called. Talked with Dr. French, then Erica the nutritionist, and then met with Dr. Scott. I was so impressed with the service I received that day, that I made a special point of telling Dr. Scott how good my experience had been. Hopefully, this great service will continue. I was told once all my pre-op test are done (July 3) they will send to my insurance company for final approval. (I already have conditional approval). They told me final approval normally takes about two weeks, and I should be able to have my surgery by the end of the month. Does this sound right to any of you you have gone to My New Self. Just seems like I have been waiting forever......because of a previous insurance company......not My New Self........just curious how long anyone else's insurance approval, and scheduling took. Hope you all have a great day! -

Who was your surgeon in STL? I am going to Dr, Stephen Scott at My New Life at Des Peres Hospital. I had heard a lot of good things about him? It is a bit of a drive as I actually live in St. Peter's. not complaining though....I was very, very happy with everyone I have encountered so far. -
