Forgot to mention to superfatty, someone already stole your alcohol idea. It's the Illinois Senate. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/gutcheck/2012/04/sip_and_spit_passes_in_illinoi.php -
HOW TO GUIDE for Chewing and Spitting
Gone replied to Gone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've turned off monitoring of this thread and I won't be posting anything else, so you can just complain to each other I guess. For anybody else that reads this and already chews and spits and needs to understand it better, I hope this helps. EVERY "destructive" or "risky" or "negative" behavior, always has ways in which you can minimize the damage and reduce the negative outcomes. Medical professionals are supposed to guide all of their patients, even when those patients make bad choices. FACT: Studies have shown that 34% of people with eating disorders chew and spit. Those people need guidance too. Here are some studies on CHSP to educate those of you who actually care to learn more about it. http://www.scienceofeds.org/2013/03/06/your-bodys-response-to-chewing-spitting-the-role-of-ghrelin-and-obestatin/ http://www.scienceofeds.org/2013/02/22/chewing-and-spitting-a-neglected-symptom-in-eating-disorders/ http://www.scienceofeds.org/2013/03/21/your-bodys-response-to-chewing-and-spitting-the-role-of-insulin/ Good luck everyone on your weight loss journey. There is a high percentage of WLS people who do wind up with eating disorders, so you should try your best to avoid bad eating habits, but if you already have those bad habits, you do deserve some helpful advice along the way, until you're able to fully quit the bad habits. -

Laura, For those people who refuse to take your warning and are going to chew and spit anyway (Yes, there will be many people who do it, despite our warnings), what advice can you offer them to make sure they are informed and minimize medical risks while they do it? -

Laura, I understand your concern, but clearly you did not take the time to read my entire post. Not only did I discuss all of the negative impacts you have cited, but I also many, many times in my article told people that this is an eating disorder and not to do it. THE POINT IS, that people are doing this, just search the forums and you will see, and unfortunately they have no idea what they are doing. If they are going to do it anyway, I think they are entitled to know what they are doing and how to help do it more safely, working towards not doing it at all. -
If you want to know how to Chew and Spit without seriously injuring your body, you'll have to ask one of the many members below who decided to complain and criticize my posting enough for me to take it down and stop coming to this forum. I hope you all stay safe. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Also, I bought 3 boxes of Gas X strips. The kind that dissolve on your tongue. I've only used 1 box so far, but when I first got home I was taking 2 strips at a time (that's what my nurse gave me in the hospital) to help with the gas pain in my chest. I have gotten to where I only take 2 once a day, rather than every so many hours, but I think it does help clear up the chest pain.

While I was in the hospital I wasn't too worried about being de-hydrated due to being on IV. By the way, the IV can be up to 2.2lbs (based on the calculations I did of the cc that was in mine) and I think they gave me about 4 bags while I was there overnight, so that is almost 9lbs of liquid injected into my body. So if you are one of those people who get home and weigh more than you did before leaving for the surgery, don't worry, you're just pumped full of liquids that you will quickly burn off. I wouldn't feel too bad if you can't drink much the first few days, since I couldn't either but I always felt like I had energy, so I wasn't too worried. Now that I can drink more often and without pain, I see myself drinking a lot more. I just finished a 16.9 oz bottled Water in about 2 hours, so now I'm really happy about that.

I had lots of chest pain (I think it was air/gas from the surgery). I would burp and hiccup even with the smallest sip of water. It took me a few days, but now that I am at 5 days post surgery, I am able to drink without any pain (still small amounts), so now I just need to be able to remember to keep drinking to get enough ounces in all day. I was worried about focusing on enough protein, but I've read that getting the 64oz or more liquids is initially more important if you have to choose one, so now I am going to make sure I get all of the liquid in, even if a lot of it is just water, and once I know I will make the daily ounces, then I will make sure to have some Isopure or GNC lean Shake in order to add the protein part of things. Not saying that is the best way to do it, but that's what I'm doing. When I focused on just protein drinks, I wasn't getting enough liquids, I guess since it fills you up more.

I had a hard time remembering to drink every 10-15mins, so I wasn't getting in enough liquids lately. I'm sure there are tons of free apps to use, but I found one that I like for the iPhone that is free called Chime Squirrel. It doesn't have any reviews, so that kinda worried me, but anyway, you just set how many minutes and for how many hours and it will just run in the background and make your phone chime every so often. You don't have to acknowledge it or touch anything, it just chimes once and stops and then keeps chiming every 10mins until your total hours is over. Again, I'm sure there are lots of other options, but for me, it's working great so far.

Tami, Good ideas and makes sense to get settled in after my surgery and then search for a partner. Found the other thread. Thanks. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/283805-december-2013-sleevers-come-in/ -
I'm scheduled for Dec 17th at Forest Park Dallas, TX, Dr. Nicholson. Just saying Hi to all!

Thanks again Tara. I live over by West 7th St, so I know there is a lot of live music going on. Once I meet someone, we can walk there from my condo so we get some exercise on the way too. -

Thanks Tara. I guess I've just always had dates where I meet a woman for dinner or lunch and then go to a movie or some other place. Now, I just need to come up with non-food related things to do. Unfortunately, DFW is the sort of place where everywhere you drive, you pass tons of restaurants. If you were to take away all the restaurants, many areas around here wouldn't even have much there if you think about it. The other problem is that I don't drink alcohol, so I don't go to bars or clubs where people are drinking. Guess I need to focus on the parks, zoo, botanic gardens. It's just gonna take the right girl who won't be sad when I don't want to take her out to nice restaurants every night.
