Where are all the Michigan people at??
saralyn replied to Cinnaberry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just thought I'd pop in & say "Hi", I've had computer issues & haven't been to visit in a while :wink2: Hope everyone is doing well & congrats to you new Bandsters!! ~Sara -
Hi Sheila, I had mine done also at Harper Hospital 6/27/07 the same campus as DMC. Was placed by Dr.Andre Nunn, he & his staff are wonderful. If you have some co morbidities you may covered, best to attend a few seminars of Docs you like/hear good things about and talk with them about that at your consult, you never know. I'm doing well had my 2nd fill and am down 29lbs. I cannot stress enough the great nursing care & pain control I received at Harper and the rooms were private which was nice. Wonderful care. Dr. Nunn uses the On Q pain pump too which made my incision pain very very minor. Good luck! -Sara

Scared to tell boss any ideas?
saralyn replied to short1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't tell my boss only a few close friends. Ironically I developed appendicitis 3 weeks before my LB surgery at work and had to go to ER, and my boss called me TWICE while I was in the ER getting ready for a appendectomy and wanting to know if I would be in to work tomorrow..Um don't think so... I just took a extended fmla and got mysurgery 3 weeks later. I know what you mean though management where I work can be pretty abusive to employees so I decided to keep it to myself and if human resources does share with my boss you bet you boots I will file suit. Stick to your guns and get your surgery Honey! XXx -Sara -
Got banded plus a large Hiatal Hernia repair 6/27, I got home the day after sx but wasn't feeling real well so am just posting about it now.. Thanks everyone for your support, I appreciate it so much!! XXX -Sara

I am feeling much better now, I'm a week and a half outbut still get tired easily, but I also had my appendix removed 3 weeks before my surgery so that may be why I'm not quite as perky as people normally are after lapband placement.. All in all I'm not feeling too bad. Good luck on your surgery!! XXX -Sara

Banded Yesturday Gas Pain Horrible !
saralyn replied to kimmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 27th and had horrible gas pain also, referred to the right shoulder area, I walked as soon as I was awake enough & walked & walked all night & day! I did use the gas x strip & think it did help move it once it got to the bowel area..Use it or not I doubt it would hurt either way. Question for you Matt, my doc told me I could take a pill as long as it was no bigger than a M & M candy..I haven't tried it yet but would like to get back on my singuliar med.. -Sara -
Yea that's what I am doing too for my pre-op and also after I mix 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk with a packet of carnation instant breakfast & about a cup of ice cubes and make a milk shake. Today I put fresh blueberries in & it was really good. I'm limited on Protein sources as I have severe food allergies-and I'm stil fat! -Sara

Where are all the Michigan people at??
saralyn replied to Cinnaberry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi James, Yes actually I just ordered a new one today with LapBand added to it. I think it's very important-you may not always be able to answer questions in case of emergency and frankly a lot of times it's not asked. I have to wear one anyway but I figured it can't hurt to let medical personnel know esp if your abdomen was injured or you were unconcious. I'm a nurse and know I would always prefer to know these things about a patient right away in case of emergency. -Sara p.s. I have a friend that makes custom ones that are really cool, pm me if you want her website. -
One of my Girlfriends had surgery at Hurley (not obesity but ortho) and received a horrible burn in the OR from the Bouve pad (spelling-sorry) it's the pad they lie underneath you that conducts heat to the cauterizer. She has since had to have 3 other surgeries and will have her fourth-skin grafts-on the same day I go for LapBand. Needless to say she isn't going back to Hurley. That's the only first hand experience I know of them, also I recently had a pretty bad in-patient experience at Huron Valley Hospital in commerce twp, but I don't think they do too many LapBands there. I'm going to Harper Hospital on 6/27 with Dr. Nunn, his staff is very kind & efficient and everything has gone so smoothly I expected to have the preparations take much longer but they had my approval before my consultation with Dr.Nunn. He is nice, softspoken and open I went for a RNY consult, he does both and he steered me away from RNY for various reasons relating to my health. I was impressed with his honesty. He also told me both his parents and a sister had the band and were doing very well. -Good Luck! No matter which you choose I'm sure you will research and make the best decision for you. -Sara

I picked neither. I am remarried and yes we are/were best friends & the romance is somewhat still there and we both still love each other but things change after marriage at least in my experience. There is more taking for granted and in my marriage I think I am less of a priority now that we are "married". But I wanted it, I wanted to get married more than he did and felt that that piece of paper really would make me more secure and say something about his love and commitment to me-it doesn't. It is a piece of paper, I'm not saying it's meaning less, it means a lot to me but the relationship is a helluva lot more important than a wedding ceremony. I don't think I would do it again, and yes I love him. I think a friend of mine has got it right, she owns her own home and her and her BF "visit" and go do fun things together you know all of the romance stuff but she has her own space to go back to and does not have to answer to anyone how she chooses to live her life. Now my marriage experience though we love each other terribly has not been ideal for either of us so there you go. -Sara

Banding June 28th!!!!!Support
saralyn replied to Amcmh95's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm being banded on the27th and know how you feel! I'm now terrified and would probably back out if my mother didn't buy a plane ticket to come up and stay with me-then she would kill me. I had to stop reading the complications board because it was just totally freaking me out. HugsXXXX You will be OK, and just focus on all the good things that will happen in your life afterwards and how much better your health will be. That's what I'm doing. Your almost there!! -Sara -
Hey Everyone, Sorry I haven't been around I am rushing to get stuff done in time for Weds. I can't believe it's just 3 more days! I am freaking out!!! Bought a Magic Bullet yesterday and tried it out today. I like the convienence of the cups etc but it is very tempermental on how tight you screw on the lid etc. Not sure if I am keeping it or not, I may return and just get a regular blender. Thats about all here1. Yes, We will stil have to do the meet-up & visit, thought I would have had more time the past few weeks than I have but things have been nuts-as usual! -Sara

anyone with bcbs standard care network?
saralyn replied to Shelby Angel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Shelby, If by standard you mean traditional/ppo then I can tell you I got ok'd for surgery no problem. Of course I have some co morbidities r/t my weight like htn, degenerative arthritis etc..Too bad your Doc is not supportive, mine is extremely supportive esp after seeing me struggle with weight related issues and dieting the past 20 yr.s he even wrote me a long letter of support a yr ago, then again this yr (I chickened out a yr ago) I wouldn't expect too many problems with bcbs as long as it has been documented in your medical record the last 6 months about your diet & weight loss attempts. Good Luck! -Sara -
