Questions about Mexico
westcoastlady replied to NewAshes's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Couldnt of said it better. There are approx 200 Bariatric Surgeons in Mexico but only a few advertise on the internet. I used Dr. R Kelly at $5200Most packages all include whats listed above in the other post. Research the doctor... research the hospital... and finally the recovery hotel. Good Luck -

My husband spoke with "Team Kelly" today on a business matter. I agree with this statement with a change made to it to keep it correct.Dr Kelly has practicing privileges at Angeles, INT, MI Doctor and Nova. He perfers Angeles but it is twice the price and most patients want a package price in the $5000 area. Angeles is in the $10K area. But if you've been to Angeles Hospital like we have... you know why. The only hospital/Clinic that he is NOT working out of is Florence/Oasis. That being said if your willing to pay... its Angeles at 10Kish. If its $5200... its Nova... If its booked by MBC they pay the cheapest OR fee and thats MI Doctor. Still at $5200 To my understanding and our personal discussion (and to make it short and sweet)... it was a mutual agreement that he would no longer use F/O Hope that clarifies it abit better. IMO... book direct and get Nova Hospital. MBC doesnt do anything extra for you... you actually get less. By booking direct with Lora... no deposit, better xray for leak test, hospital with a doctor present at night, a hospital that does NOT lock its doors at night so they can still be checked on... I'll stop there. Hope that helps patints make a better decision when considering Dr. Kelly and who to book through -
Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
westcoastlady replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Great... so we know there will be no charge for the water! And your bank / credit card company is correct in stating that the Marriott needs to drop the charge. Hate to say it but its a waiting game I guess. Can you email them? And your cc company should be able to verify it is a charge or a hold. Being a vender at one time of my life I use to put holds on customers cards all the time. If its a charge... then you need to take action Good Luck -

Should I ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for ....
westcoastlady replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I knew of the hotel change before we left but I am so pissed at them for not discussing the hospital change. And after thinking about it and discussing it with my husband... they never did tell us the night before. I now remember asking Daniels asst why the questionaire was on MI Doctor Letterhead. He reply was " Thats where you are having surgery". If I hadnt of asked... I would of found out 14 hours later when we pulled up. And yes... I freaked. Its like booking a cruise to the Carribean and going to Alaska. Both are cruises... just different places. And in closing... if they contacted us a week or even a few days prior to us leaving... we would of cancelled. Other than the choice of doctors... the choice of Hospitals was VERY IMPORTANT to us. Thanks for your comment Look for a pm -
Should I ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for ....
westcoastlady posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Ok... had my surgery a week ago with the "NOW VERY FAMOUS DR. KELLY" haha All is good and I can’t say enough about his team... but When I booked I booked with MBC they told me and advertise that they are "The Official Site". blah blah blah Not only did I want a certain surgeon, I wanted a particular hospital and hotel as well. My husband has been in TJ to assist other patients many times and he recommended Florance\Oasis. When we were picked up the morning of surgery we found out that our reservation had been changed to MI Doctor Hospital The difference in the cost of these two facilities for operating time is $400.00 MBC said it was the surgeon that changed hospitals. I agree that at that date he was no longer using Florence/Oasis but using Nova for his own bookings. In one hand I think MBC are somewhat correct in saying that, but thats due to the fact MBC would not absorb the extra fee of $400.00 that Dr, Kelly picks up himself if you book direct. I paid the fee for Florence/Oasis! I booked Kelly, florence / Oasis and the Grand Hotel. We got 1 out of 3 Also we opted for a better x-ray for the leak test and were taken by Dr. Kelly and Lora themselves to Angeles Hospital. The surcharge of this x-ray was $68.00 and was paid by us and paid directly to the hospital. I think the fee for the leak test at MI Doctor is $38.00 So... do you think I should ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for .... $430.00 -

Your not overacting. To answer your questions I am assuming you did not book direct with Kelly and Lora. If you booked with them then your surgery is at a more expensive hospital called Nova. If you booked through a service company like MBC you are now at MI Doctor Hospital IMO MI is a 3*** and Nova is a **** MI does not have a doctor present in the evenings till 7am. I did not like that idea. I met Dr. Kelly in my room an hour before surgery. he was great, honest and so ensuring. You will probably as well. MBC has a cordinator in the hospital but hes only there to collect your $$ and to get papers signed. Not much of a coordinator... just an office person IMO. Mexico and TJ are just fine. Thats the least of your worries. Easy way of knowing who you booked through is your deposit. If you made one, you booked through a service provider... if you didnt... you booked direct. Dr. Kelly's office does NOT require a deposit. In my case I booked for the florence on purpose and did not find out that MBC made a change until the nite before. And I only knew that because I was reading a form (Title MI Doctors Hospital) that they gave me that night to fill out. If I hadnt read that form the nite before surgery... no one would of told me until we pulled up ti MI And last but not least, many patients do it on their own but a few have a real hard time for a few days. You just have to depend on the nursing staff to get you through it. If you can take someone... pls do! Good luck -
Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
westcoastlady replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The plot thickens. If your bottled water came from room service ... you WILL get charged for the water. If your two bottles per day were dropped off by housekeeping... it is No charge. If you consume your two bottles in the resteraunt... there is a charge. the letter states: 2 bottles of water in your room per nite Hope that helps clear up a bit of the mystery. Ive been at the Marriot other times. I know of this policy personally. KHy -
Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
westcoastlady replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My guess its just a pre auth. All hotels, car rental etc do it. Usually takes 24 to 72 hours to get it off. Contact your bank that issued the card. They can advise you if its an actual charge or pre-authorization. Im betting on the pre auth -

This is Kates husband... we have chatted. Ive hyjacked her account to answer this one. Its not any of the above for me. For me its eating my meal atleast four times over and over and over. I dont vomit per say but it comes back up and no matter how small I chew - 50 times - it comes right back. My local doctor says I really dont have a real sleeve. Just a piece was removed from my stomach - bit to big a piece. I buy Tums by the case. Is it acid reflux? Theres no burning - no acid. Do I regret having wls? No. Do I regret getting it done in MX? No. Do I regret having it done at 7-11? Yup LOL -

westcoastlady replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks for your comment.I acknowledge that Dr. kelly and Florence/Oasis parted ways and Dr. kelley explained to my husband and I why... and without getting into that... we accept it. I feel it was for the best. He advised the service of that situation and requested that I be sent to Nova. The service found out that the difference for OR time was $275 more at Nova vs F/Oasis They refused to pay this and booked me at a less expensive facility that was $400 less than F/Oasis So... I feel he did advise the service accordingly. I also feel that because I booked with the service it is up to the service involved to contact me and make me aware of this. I also feel I should of had the option to agree or cancel... well before the morning of the surgery. I cant tell you how upset I was just hours prior to surgery. That was not fare. The service did advise us a week or so prior to flyng to TJ that they changed to hotel. They could hyave done the same with the hospital. Hope that makes it a bit clearer. of Nova to MI Doctor was Price wise the OR times at the Mi are $900 the Oasis is $1300 and the Nova is $1575 we s -
Should I ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for ....
westcoastlady replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
So Monday... this is what my husband will do. He will write a short email to the service involved asking for a partial refund. I will post that email on this page. I hope thats not against the rules. I will then follow up with the reply if any. Thanks for all the input. That is why we are so focused on booking direct if possible no matter who the surgeon is. Thats just our opinion. and I had a pm about why I just joined (after surgery)... answer is... I lurked for awhile but I live with a guy that has gone through all this for 3 years. I get all my answers from watching him go through the highs and lows. What better way for support and to learn. Thanks -

Sorry but not trying to be confusing.I think "coordinator" is a poor choice of words on my behalf. I am me... lol He posts for the last 3 years on the OH forum. But he has answered a post or two when Im not around for me Maybe a better word should be a patient advocate. He just assist people while in TJ. For anyone that needs help.. no matter what dr. Well, almost any doctor. Hope that helps. I had surgery 10 days ago with Kelly at MI Doctor He had surgery 3 years ago with Dr. BadNews at ... a bad place... (dont want to get into that) Thats another HUGE discussion. -
Should I ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for ....
westcoastlady replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My husband had surgery 3 years ago when things ran rampid. Since he was one of the lucky ones that week he vowed to help assist others when he can. Many people (mainly women) go down bythemselves. When asked, the number one reason is to keep it a secret. If you tell just 1 person... your lie can be found out so easily. He was asked to help someone with their fears a few years back so he boarded a plane, met a complete stranger and became their... guess you would call it... the patient coordinator. (Their servant) Just so happened that woman had a real hard time with surgery and he was there to comfort her, get her ice, make her walk, speak to the nurses about pain when she couldnt, make sure her drains (2) were emptied... you get it. Some patients dont need a friend with them but when its all done and over with... many say that they wish they had someone with them. We both retired before we were 50 and I guess financially... pretty well off. Money was never an issue. Safety and well being are. Now he still goes down with people but he lets them buy his airfare. He does not charge them a dime. He is GOOD at what he does. I guess its his way of passing it forward. During the days of his surgery... a few patients died that week. When we pulled up to the place I wish we would of walked out. we were warned... but the surgeon had a great reputation, great web site... we got sucked in. Wow... to long a post. So again, its just his way of paying it forward. Hope that helped with your question. Edit note... hotel was fine. Grand and the Marriot are the same price... its just that he personally likes the grand. Must be a pretty waitress there lol -
Hubby had surgery 3 years ago... dont want to mention the slaughter house he was at cause that would hijack your thread. hes at his goal. 333 to 215ish. My local doc wa so impressed with the xrays at angeles hosp. Hubby xrays were just tossed on the garbage by the same local doc and said a stick drawing would of been better lol. We made the mistake of booking through MBC and getting the cheaper less quality xrays in our package. We opted to pay the extra $60 and go to Angeles for our xrays... the same as yours (but yours are included) lucky girl. I dont know why more patients dont book direct with their surgeons... what is it they get? We got fooled because MBC's website said it was the officail site... stupid me. Wont be long til we are calling you both skinny!

Congrats on the date! If you booked with Kelly himself I beleive you will have surgery at NOVA Hospital. Will you please take some pics of this facility and post them. Also your leak test will be at Angeles Hospital... ultra modern (High Tech) a few pics here would assist newbies as well. Seems another OP is bad mouthing it and I did not take pics before I left both Hospitals. If you booked through a whoelsaler... probably MI Doctor will be your hospital Again... congrats on the date If you need any info about the facility, doctor or TJ itself... pm us. We have been ther 12 times so far.

The good, the bad & the ugly... Mexico Bariatric Center, Dr. Kelly, MI Hospital
westcoastlady replied to westcoastlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I agree with you. Lora should make some changes. A guy pm'd me today and said kinda the same thing but when he told me what site he was on "THE OFFICIAL SITE blah blah blah" I regretably advised him that it is NOT the doc's own website but a wholesalers site. Sometimes these wholesalers are very mischievious when advertising on their websites. -
Single incision vsg with Dr. Carlos Diaz? Anyone?
westcoastlady replied to Bailey2194's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Can I suggest that you speak with a surgeon directly that still does the 5 slit procedure and get his views. I could tell you what my doc... Dr kelly in TJ said but I would rather you hear it from him directly. If your interested I can have him call you. He does it the "what they call regular way" but with out the stupid drain. Lots to know about when it comes to staples, glue, stitching etc. Let me know by pm... but good luck!! -

I agree... but the most important thing is that you are getting surgery! yahoo!Did you try getting info from Lora at Kelly's office or through a wholesaler like Mexico Bariatrics or Baha Medical... just curious.
