November buddies where are you?
MouseOnTheMile replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not yet, I start on October 28th! I think I'm most nervous about the two week liquid diet before surgery (and having to get an IV, think I'd rather do the surgery conscious than have an iv in haha, it's a phobia) than the surgery or recovery combined. Still fat me, with all the hunger and large stomach and only the shakes to quell the hunger... Lets just say I might have a MAD case of the H-ANGRIES! Heh -
Hello! And welcome

November 12th here at OCC in Tijana -
Any Canadians found a provider for out of country elective surgery travel insurance? I would really like to find a plan and it would be a big comfort to have some, Alberta Blue Cross was a definite no go sadly!

Thank you back2barb for sharing all this information as you go along. My surgery date is finally set at OCC for November 12th and I'm finding your insight immensely helpful! -
I will be attending OCC November 12th for my surgery! I'm so excited I hope to keep detailed accounts of what goes on there and I hope I have as good of an experience as most of the OCC posters here have. My father will be going with me, which is both awesome and terrifying hahaha.

Same thing here! I'm going through OCC in Tijuana because the waiting and hoop jumping does not work for me haha

Hello ladies and gentlemen of OCC, I've been following this thread for a while as its where I plan to have my surgery. Just curious if any of the postop posters could answer this question for me: In Dr Ortiz's aftercare recommendations, how long did OCC say not to lift anything over ten pounds? Two weeks? Four? Six? I'd love to know the answer specifically for this program! Also good luck to all of you who have your date set! I hope to get in November as well, but may have to wait until April though I must say all he information on this thread has been very helpful in general. -
Congratulations! Very inspiring for us still preop

Ksprite and Gomekast: Holy crap on a cracker am I glad I came into this thread, both of you seriously took every word out of my head. It was like reading my own thoughts... Now I'm suspicious of both of you. I thought maybe I was nuts because everyone just seemed sooooo focused on the health aspect and not on the looks part, which for me, is a big part of it. Sure I'm worried about my health LONG term, I have diabetes, Crones, Gout, and a slew of other food related diseases that run in my family as well as they are all overweight. I think about how this will improve my lifestyle at 60 and that's a major thing for me. I don't want my last years to suck. But now at 25, I too am excited to see my perfect self, and feel little actual fear for surgery, even though I have been researching it for over a year before deciding it was right for me. And some of the more "holier than thou" types that might say that's stupid, and I'm not doing it for the right reasons, it's all health and zero vanity etc etc... All I have to say to that attitude is "Yet you never seem to see anyone posting before and after shots of their blood work charts do you?" -Nads (that's me, much more amusing than calling myself Nadia haha) No disrespect meant, everyone has their reason for wanting this surgery, and I personally don't believe any one of us should be telling each other if our reasons are right or wrong if our doctors have cleared us in sound mind. I too find it easier to deal with a major issue like this with humor and excitement, some are more serious and prefer to focus on that aspect. *shrugs* to each their own, I don't think either way means you don't fully understand the hardships this surgery will bring, nor the joys. I hope I can keep in touch with both of you ladies -
Welcome I think you'll find all the information very helpful (I know I have) it's nice to be able to read the good the bad and the ugly of this surgery so you can go into it with open eyes. Good luck on your journey

How long after surgery were you able to resume normal activities?? I am an avid bowler (get your giggles out now hah) and throw a nearly 15 pound ball. League just started and ends in April, I want to have my surgery ASAP but this is the only remaining road block. Just curious how long many of you post op guys and gals weren't able to lift or strain. I absolutely don't want to hurt myself, just wonder how long I'll be out of commission hahah. Thanks in advance for any responses.

PostOp Lifting?
MouseOnTheMile replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you to everyone who is responding, I would like to clarify that although I posted in post op (because its a post op question) I myself am preop. I will definitely be listening to whatever my doctor/surgeon recommends, I just wanted to get an idea of the wait time so I have a better idea whether or not I should wait to have my surgery until after season is done. By your responses it looks like that may be the case oh well! Haha -
I'm so pre-op it's sad But I had my first appointment with my doctors weight lose nurse and she said she thought I was wonderfully informed (thanks to this forum haha) and prepared. She approved me for referral and sent it in. I'm hoping to go in for evaluation at the hospital ASAP. Just wanted to share my news and see if any people in Edmonton Alberta recently sleeved or in the process could tell me what their wait times were from first appointment to surgery date. Yippee! On my way to a better life.
