Question: what kind of test did they do to test if your liver was small enough??

Can i vent for a minute...

Wow! I'm sorry to hear that!! At least the one lady seems genuinely wanting to help you get it solved but that's so frustrating! I hope it's resolved soon, good luck and keep us posted!
  3. Hello my Canadian (and possibly abroad) brethren (and sistren haha), just curious for any of you who were self pay in Mexico or other and used financing for a partial or full loan... Who did you use?? I've been approved through Medicard, which seems to be the major one for Canadians, but their interest rates seem high. Anyone use any where else? Thanks in advance

    Financing Question For Canadians

November 12th in TJ, I just decided to not use financing and pay out of pocket. I'm doing a check to avoid extra credit card processing fees. How about you? When's yours?

I did try all of those options, no one had them. Luckily I found one through a respiratory clinic.

Abdominal binder. I don't have one, don't think I'll get one either, was just curious if she found them effective.

I'm In Alberta And with OCC you just fly to San Diego and they pick you up and take you to Tijuana. My flights were 500 round trip, you might even have it cheaper since you're in the states

Though the short wait time might seem weird, one must remember that at the OCC OR, they don't deal with any other patients besides weight loss surgeries, no sick people walking in needing care or to be stitched up. I was told my surgery will only be 20-30 minutes long, so taking that into account, operating wise, they can see quite a bit of patients in a day. I feel like I am going to get a pure bariatric surgery experience!

Oh yeah. I set my date with them end of September for November 12th. They even offer financing, though I chose to just pay directly. If you contact them straight away, they might still be able to get you in for November. Where are you from? I'm sorry to hear about your insurance, I completely know how you feel! I could have waited three years and had it here in Canada for free, jump through their ridiculous hoops and still potentially be denied but I said F that! I want it bad enough I'll pay for it. I'm tired of weird aches and pains from minimal excursion (I like moving so that doesn't work for me). I see older larger people and how they can't walk and seeing that pattern arising in me! No, I wanted, scratch that, needed this surgery this year before anything got any worse!

We aren't allowed to discuss price unfortunately. You can easily email them inquiring and they will give you the price, I was nervous to email thinking they would then not stop spamming me pressuring me to set a date. I can assure you that my contact Carolyn did no such thing. http://www.obesitycontrolcenter.com/about/cost

They want me to be doing breathing exercises to improve my lung function before surgery. Since my hospital is in Mexico and I live in Canada, I don't have any way of receiving one from them in advance (they didn't offer to mail one, just told me to purchase one ASAP and bring it with me (I'm assuming that bit is to make sure I actually complied))

I have been on the waiting list here for a year and still haven't gotten a call back for a first appointment, after which they said it could be up to two years before I had surgery. I don't feel like putting my life on hold any longer for what healthcare is making seem like pipe dream. I'm very confident with the Mexican surgeon I have chosen, Dr. Ariel Ortiz in TJ at OCC... He has very low complication rates and I'll be honest when I say I was referred to him by the weight loss nurse at my physicians office! Said four of her nurse friends have also had the sleeve and he let them investigate his OR, they reported it was cleaner than any OR they had ever work in in Canada. That really put my mind at ease, plus his credentials are amazing! He even teaches bariatrics at Yale! Plus this forum has put me in touch with people who were recently sleeved by him an their experiences seem amazing and unparalleled to some of the sad stories of complications I see and hear coming out of Canada and the States (yours included! I've read what happened to you, happy you are out of the woods now though!). November 12th is coming quickly but I wish it was here already! Hehe
