How much did you gain w/ band & baby?
Sterbear replied to Liz1531's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I am glad you posted this because I was starting to get upset/ "jealous" reading that most people lost or only gained a small amount during pregnancy. I am 10 weeks and have gained 15 pounds!! I am out of control. I am starving, and my band is empty because I was so sick at first I was throwing up. Now I am not sick, but eating everything! It scares me to death to think I might gain all the weight back. I guess I need to get a slight fill....???? Can you even do that if your pregnant? -
I think after a fill, your stomach can swell. If you could not get any saliva down, then I think it is a good thing you got an unfill. I had that happen to me and I ended up in the hospital because I vomited blood. After the unfil I did feel yucky for a while. I was on liquids for a week and am now great. I am going to wait a few months before getting another fill because it was so scary. Hope you feel better soon!

I decided to go to Mexico and get my band placed because insurance here denied me. However, I think my band has slipped. Every time I have anything filled in my band, I end up in the hospital because my band completely shuts up and I end up not able to swallow anything. (even my spit comes back up) I went through this routine 3 times and the last time I was throwing up blood, which scared me. I am completely unfilled now. Will insurance now pay for my band to be fixed in the U.S.? Will they pay for me to get it looked at at least to find out what is wrong? I have lost 60 pounds and it is slowly coming back and that scares me too! I feel like I made a dumb choice in going to Mexico because I am now staying at home with my daughter and do not have the money to go back to Mexico. Anyone know if insurance will help?

surgery in Tx or Mexico?
Sterbear replied to tifferoni326's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am 26 and I am so happy I have lost weight, but I need TONS of body work done now to actually be normal. Can you update me on how the surgery turns out and how you feel later? I am very interested at getting it done, but I am low on funds also. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -
I do not think you are disqusting in any way! You are still beautiful, so is your baby. If you do have the surgery, you will just be a better you. I had my surgery 9 months after I had my daughter and I think it has made me a better mom because I love myself now.

Hey Kimmom, I have the same problem, but I do not feel restriction either. I am going Tuesday to get another fill. I will let you know if it is a mistake or a good thing!

I was just banded in June by Dr. Zapata and it was wonderful. I would use him again (hope I never have to) in a second! I used ready4achange and Alma walked me throught the whole thing. Thank goodness for her! Good luck on your weight loss. I also was banded in hopes of becoming a better mother to my daughter and to live a healthy life. 23 pounds down and I am going to get a fill on the 14th! -
I am sure this has been asked before, but I can't really find the answer to my question. I had a fill 2 weeks ago. My question is, how should it feel? Food gets stuck often, but I am able to eat as much as I want, once I get unstuck. I do not feel full quickly. Some meats, some bread, and raw vegetables get stuck. When I say stuck, I mean I have pain in my stomach and I can feel the food move through the band after a while. Then I can go on eating as if nothing happened. I am not full for very long either. So, my question is, should I get another fill even though I have pain often? Should I feel pain? Would a fill help me feel full? Sorry so many questions, but I feel so alone in this because I do not know anyone who has had this procedure. Thanks in advance!

I am so glad I got over my fears and posted this question! Thanks so much for your advice. It is weird how I did not even realize how large each bite I took was, even though I chewed, it was much too large. Today, I have practiced small, well chewed bites, and the world is good again! I have had no pain and I am stopping before feeling "full." Crazy, but I always save my favorites for last!!!! I will be changing that also!

I was also banded by Dr. Zapata in Monterrey and it was such a great experience. I would recommend him to anyone.

Bathing suit recommendation needed
Sterbear replied to mariecarmen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just got this suit and I love it! It hides my tummy and the little skirt hides my hips. It is the shape fx from newport-news.com...great stuff! Newport-News: Women's Clothing, Sportswear, Shoes, Jeans, Special Sizes, and more | Product Page -
I love that show too. My husband has such a weak stomach I have to watch it in private. The lap band show has not aired here yet, next week I guess. I TIVO them, so I know I could not have missed it...I hope! I think the psychiatrist has NO idea what it is like to be overweight. I know that weight gain/loss is a huge psychological hurdle, but she seems to think everyone is going to sabatoge their surgery. Maybe they will, but they will die without it. Thank you for starting this thread, I love this show, but can't ever talk about it with anyone!

My daughter is considering lapband but is so scared of surgery-what to tell her?
Sterbear replied to LAPBANDMAMA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 25 and I just got banded in Mexico on June 7. I am so glad I did. The surgery was not bad at all. The tough day was the first day after surgery because I was sore, but I don't even remember that anymore. I am down 17 pounds now and I am so excited! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I think doing it now will help me in the future to avoid health issues. There is not much we can say to ease the fear of surgery, but I believe it is so worth it! -
Did anyone get there lap band done in mexico?
Sterbear replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded by Dr. Zapata in Monterrey Mexico. It was wonderful. Ready4achange.com took care of everything. They pick you up from the airport, take you everywhere, and even bring you food afterwards. I had the best care in the hospital and Dr. Zapata was wonderful. I had better care in Mexico than I have had here! -
Please Help me, Im desperate!
Sterbear replied to hotpink_bubbles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hotpink, I know this does not help much, but it is temporary. Anesthesia (spell?) can make your hair fall out after surgery. I had clumps of hair fall out after my baby was born (by the handful). It eventually slowed down and now I have tiny hairs all over the place! I am not a doctor or anything, but that could possibly be the case. If you are getting your protein in and vitamins then the hair loss should come to an end soon. I did not get any bold spots or anything, even though I lost tons of hair. Hope this helps, I know how you feel because I sat on my bathroom floor and cried my eyes out, but it did get better and I did not go bald. -
Thanks KT99. I guess I thought that I would just not be hungry at all! I agree that I can't get to my goal weight quick enough! Willpower, willpower, willpower!

Marlynncreel...sorry I messed your name up!

Marylynncreel, I was banded by Dr. Zapata in Monterrey. I am feeling great today. I am sore a little around the port, but other than that I am doing great. I have tiny gas pains in my shoulder, but they are so much better. I am so glad I did this now. Who was your doctor, where did you go, and how are you feeling? Were there times when you thought what the heck am I doing? However, I think that my stay in the Mexico hospital was the best hospital stay I have ever had. They were wonderful! Hope you are doing good also. It is so good to hear others that have had this done.

Hey all! This site is so wonderful., makes me feel less alone in this ordeal. I was banded on 6-7-07 in Mexico. (Many times I thought, WHAT AM I DOING?!) Liquid diet is hard because I am a little hungry...anyone else hungry? I did not expect to be hungry. So glad to be done with the surgery and on my way to a healthy me!
