Can I drink as fast as is comfortable?
VSG_Barbie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 7/30 and recovering really well so far. No nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, nothing. Drinking only hurts if I take too big of a swallow too fast. My guidelines from my doctor indicate I should only drink 8 oz an hour, and no more than 2 oz in 15 minutes I think. If I feel fine, do I really have to drink this slowly? I feel like I could drink faster than this without problems, which would make it much easier to meet my fluid goals. -
July 30th is the day! Who is with me?
VSG_Barbie replied to Dawnyellow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been sleeping on my right side with a pillow under my left side so that I'm sort of sleeping on my stomach, which is the only way I'm really comfortable. This however forces me to turn my head to face the opposite of the way I usually face and makes my neck and shoulder hurt a bit. I do this most of the night and sleep on my back the rest of the time. Can't wait til I can sleep normally! -
July 30th is the day! Who is with me?
VSG_Barbie replied to Dawnyellow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How are all the 7/30 sleevers doing? Got released from hospital yesterday around 11. Took a dose of liquid pain meds about an hour before release and haven't taken anything since. Spent last night at the hotel and my husband drove us home 5 hours today. My back is sore from using those muscles to maneuver without using my abdominals. My throat is a bit sore and scratchy. I'm hoping its just from having stuff put down it during surgery and will go away soon. Just had a sugar free popsicle and it was awesome! I am not hungry at all, so I'm mostly just focusing on liquids for now. I did have a Premier Protein shake this morning, it took me hours to finish it. How's everyone else doing? Are you getting protein and fluids both in already? When do you start all your vitamins? -

Sleeved yesterday at 8 a.m., released from hospital today at 11 a.m. Doing pretty well. Been up walking, sipping, sipping water. Even went #2 already today. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this....I have this constant nasty taste in my mouth. If I put my tongue to the roof of my mouth, it gets stronger. Just wondering what it's from and when it will go away. -
I'm on Tuesday as well, bright and early! Eek!

Pre-op diet Anyone not told to follow a specific pre-op diet?
VSG_Barbie posted a topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I am scheduled for 7/30, one week from today. The instructions I have been given are simply: Try to lose weight Don't binge Replace one meal a day with a Protein shake, starting at least 4 weeks before surgery Well, I have been actively working to lose weight since 6/1 by counting calories (keeping under 1800 or so usually) and exercising almost every day. I am down about 25 pounds since 6/1, 30 from my highest. I don't worry over where my calories come from (percentages or grams of fat, carbs, protein. However, I naturally attempt to eat more protein and less carbs because I find that more filling and allows me to eat fewer calories without being hungry. I obviously have not binged at all. I have not followed the instructions about the shakes though. I have tried out several brands of RTD Protein Shakes, but I would say I've used them more as a snack replacement than a Meal Replacement. And not every day for sure. I've kind of taken the approach that what I'm doing now is working really well for me and I'll be constrained to only liquids soon enough. Truth be told I am also trying to use up food that I know no one else in my household will eat. I also from years of dieting (not consistently, obviously) have an aversion to drinking calories. So did anyone else not have a strict pre-op diet to follow? If I'm counting calories, exercising, and losing weight should I be in good shape for surgery? Would there be any benefit to me following a full or clear liquid diet this week? My doctor does require Clear Liquids day before surgery. Is one week enough to make any kind of difference compared to what I'm already doing? Comments and advice appreciated. -
At least you're organized. I've got six sizes of too small clothes in 3 different buildings we own. I probably won't be able to find the size I need before it gets too big!

Down over 140...The Decision: Fears and Tears
VSG_Barbie replied to Writergirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for posting this. You are a very talented writer. I will be looking forward to the next installment. Also, I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. She sounds like a truly amazing person. -
Do you have a crockpot? One thing I make now that I know will work post-op is pork roast with potatoes and carrots. You can make it in the oven too. Throw pork roast in with 5 chicken bouillon cubes. Peel and cube potatoes and peel and cut carrots into chunks. cover with water. Put lid on. Cook 4-6 hours in crockpot or probably 1.5-2 hours in oven. Sprinkle your serving with onion powder and pepper. Easy and yummy!

Good luck!

Good luck to you both, Kailie and Sara. You will be fine! Kailie, just remember you're doing this in part so you can be a happier, more energetic mommy for your little guy. (Making an assumption here, cause its one of my reasons.)

I'm July 30th - is that close enough? Something I'm excited about: so many things really, can't wait to get rid of clothes as I drop sizes, can't wait to reach a weight I'm happy with and more importantly to know ill be able to maintain it! At that point ill be buying myself some nice, expensive clothing! Can't wait to be able to sit in any chair without pain of armrests digging into my hips. Want to go to the theatre again with hubby, want to ride roller coasters, and want to go somewhere on an airplane! Something I'm nervous about: everything really. I'm self pay and I decided to do this 6/1 and having it done 7/30. I could have had it done even faster, like late June but wanted to wait for various reasons. I've never met my surgeon, I'll be traveling out of state for my surgery. I haven't gone through any counseling or nutrition classes and I'm worried I'm not prepared mentally. I'm also worried that my husband is even less prepared because he doesn't spend time on this site! I'm just praying it all works out. I can't wait to feel like my outside matches my inside, right now it really doesn't!

video of my actual surgery done 5/23/2013
VSG_Barbie replied to Damaris67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He charges $11,000 for surgery. He gets $5,000 of that and $6,000 goes to the hosptal to cover the hospital stay and anesthesia. All the surgeons near me are charging $20-$30,000. He also, from what I can tell, has lots of experience and seems to be highly regarded. It's a five hour drive for me, but the cost savings makes it worth it. My husband was not comfortable with the idea of me going to Mexico. -

July sleevers! Are we ready!
VSG_Barbie replied to shannyd4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is not til the 30th, so I still have some time to get ready. I'm working on it though. I alternate between being excited and sure this is the right thing to do and thinking, "I'm doing so well with my healthy eating and exercise...maybe I should give it one more try to do it without surgery?" Then I remind myself that I'm about to turn 35 and I've been morbidly obese for over 8 years and obese for an additional 2.5 years prior. The last time I was in the normal BMI range was over 17 years ago! Also I have struggled with my weight since 4th grade! If I could reach and maintain a healthy weight on my own, I would have done it by now, right??? So then I go back to being sure and excited. I bought myself some sublingual B12 at the grocery store on a BOGO sale. Still have to get the other supplements. I've tried 3 different ready-to-drink Protein drinks, but I still need to get some powder and blend up my own. I really need to start practicing not drinking while eating. I think that will be hard. -
I was hoping my date would be 7/23, but I am now officially scheduled for 7/30 at Doctor's Hospital of Michigan. Getting my tubes tied at the same time. Very excited!

I think I'm going to be having surgery 7/23 with Dr. Pleatman in MI. I live in southeastern OH and am self-pay. I'm nervous, but excited and more hopeful than I've felt in years!
