I count calories and protein. I eat very low carb, so I never need to count carbs because I get so few. On an average day I get around 100 - 120 grams of protein, 800 - 900 calories, and probably around 20 or 30 grams of carbs (or even less).

Having problems with retaining water and low bp!
ItsMe2033 replied to moreoflife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you don't currently use salt on your food you might try adding salt to your food. I prefer Morton's Lite Salt because it contains both sodium and potassium. I would contact the surgeons office and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. It will be worth it to go to one they refer you to, even if it is a 5 hour drive. Steroids are really bad for causing weight gain, and they can have a permanent effect on your body. Even if you don't want to get a referral from your surgeon, I would at least see another endocrinologist and get a second opinion. -
What if I can't 'do' puree?
ItsMe2033 replied to Smile!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my NUT's permission, I didn't each very much pureed food. I did have scrambled eggs and a few other things a few times, but I just mostly stuck with protein shakes. After I got to soft foods, I have expanded my food consumption to the expected level, and cut back on the protein shakes. -

Having some more hunger might be normal. You may just be stalled and start losing more next month. Are you meeting your calorie and protein targets and taking your vitamins and exercising? -
Ready to drink shakes:Whey Protein Isolate
ItsMe2033 replied to liciamarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe that ISOPure is whey protein isolate. I don't think it tastes too good, but I think that most of the ready-to-drink shakes are protein blends. I too encourage you to try premier protein. -
I would call my surgeon's office and ask them if there is someone they can refer you to. Even if it's a few hours away, it's worth the drive to get a NUT who is very familiar with the surgery.

Please provide me with advice
ItsMe2033 replied to blessngs2rsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should ask your NUT about crushing the pills. At 1 week out my surgeon said I could take pills or capsules as long as they weren't horse pills, but I didn't have any fluid restriction. If it's difficult for you to get in fluids then you may need to crush your pills. -
Please provide me with advice

chicken Sausage (19g Protein + 10g fat) 170 calories 1 egg 80 calories 1 oz cheese 120 calories -------- 370 calories That's a lot of calories for a meal at this stage. Your daily target now is probably around 800 calories and that is probably supposed to be spread over 4 or 5 meals, which equals around 200 calories per meal. Also at that point my guidelines were that I could puree lean meats. The sausage gets half of its calories from fat. I encourage you to check with your NUT to see if they feel this is what you should be eating. -
I encourage you to be getting Protein at the upper end of your protein target range. If you are not there, I suggest that you add enough Protein shakes to get there. Whatever level of exercise that you are doing, I encourage you to do more. Don't be discouraged by your rate of loss. You'll do fine.

Tell me about your energy level
ItsMe2033 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work at a desk job and I went back to work 4 days after surgery and I did fine all day at work. However, for about the first two weeks after surgery, I was getting fairly tired by 8:00 PM, such that I would have to take a nap sometimes. I usually don't go to bed until about 1:00 AM, but during the first two weeks, I was sometimes going to bed by 10:00 or 11:00 PM. After the first two weeks I got past the evening tiredness and didn't have any problems. I was exercising all along, and I was also at my full protein target 3 days after surgery. If not for those two things it would probably have taken me longer to get back to normal. -
I know that you asked for stuff besides swimming. If you do have access to a pool, you could walk in the pool, which would put a lot less force on your ankle. I encourage you to take it very easy on your ankle since you feel pain in it. Also if you have access to a gym, most cardio machines put far less stress on your joints than walking would. Something like a concept 2 rowing machine would be great because you don't have to support your body weight on your feet while you are doing the exercise.

Getting my breast done, and need a visual size reference & Breast reduction story
ItsMe2033 replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
This site is not exactly what you are looking for, but it may help. It allows you to enter a height, weight and age and see a variety of people who are that size. It does not state bra size, so you'll have to just guess at that, but it might help some. http://www.mybodygallery.com -
Be sure to drink your fluids and get your protein (depending on when your doctor lets you have protein).

I'm not an expert at this, but in the information given out by surgeons office, they suggest that if you have any problems with anything that you have eaten that you wait at least two hours before you put anything else into your sleeve. I'm sure a sip of water won't hurt, but I would not drink more than that for a while.

I've been on low carb for 13 years. I don't count carbs because at every decision point, I always choose the lowest carb option. My guess is that I probably get 20 to 30 grams of carbs on most days.

One kidney - I may not be able to have VSG?
ItsMe2033 replied to prsist1869's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's the thing about protein and kidneys. Your kidneys filter the waste product of excess protein consumption. If you need 70 grams per day of protein and you consume 70 grams per day then your kidneys only have to filter the normal protein breakdown products from the body's normal metabolism. Since you only have one kidney then you would need to be careful than most people to not consume too much protein, but I don't think it will be a problem. You might get a study done on your daily protein balance so you can better know what level is needed for you. You should probably see a kidney specialist about this as well, because it may be outside the knowledge of your surgeon. -
Have you ever slightly sped up your food stages?
ItsMe2033 replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor's office makes up a set of rules that they feel will work best for their patients. I think it is not a good thing to pick and choose from everyone's doctor's requirements and find the most lenient. You should stick with the recommendations from your own doctor. During this time your body is healing, and you are losing weight and you are learning a new way of eating. Since you ate the fat-free cottage cheese, you body is probably still healing and you are probably still losing weight, so there's no harm in those two areas, but on the other hand, by going against the plan your doctor has laid out for your, you are cheating yourself out of learning the new way of eating. It will make it easier in the future to go against what you doctor has laid out for you, and it will make it easier to rationalize other behaviors in the future that will be working against your own long-term best interests. You had an opportunity to enhance your self-discipline and you did not do that. Right now you have a honeymoon period with the sleeve where you are not as hungry as you will be in the future. I encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity by developing the best eating practices that you possibly can. -
How long before weight loss start?
ItsMe2033 replied to NewNana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It varies a lot from person to person. If you won't let the scales drive you crazy then you can weigh everyday, and in a few days I'm sure you'll see your weight start to drop off. If stepping on the scales and not seeing a drop bothers you then I suggest that you weigh only once a week. I'm about 7 weeks out, and the longest that I have gone without losing any weight was 4 days. -
loss of sex drive during liquid diet
ItsMe2033 replied to AbsoluteEnvy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's fairly common to feel listless and unenergetic and just downright uninterested in many things for the first week or so of the liquid diet. This happens because your body is switching from using carbs/sugar for energy to using fat for energy. It takes several days for your body to make enough of the enzymes and other things it needs to be able to burn enough fat. After a week or 10 days on the liquid diet, things will probably get back to normal. -
2 weeks post op - need advice
ItsMe2033 replied to OBXgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Along the lines of crystal light, my favorite thing to add to water is the sugar free Hawaiian Punch fruit juicy red flavor. A few years ago I tried about 20 different flavors of mix, and that was by far my favorite. It might be too intense for some people, or too sweet, but for me it is just perfect. -
Congrats on onederland.

My personal rule of thumb is to eat about 1/3 of your exercise burn as additional intake, with at least half of that being in protein. So for example, if I burned 600 calories through exercise, I will increase my intake by 25 grams of protein (100 calories) and an additional 100 calories from other food groups (mostly fats in my case since I eat very low carb). I believe that this helps replenish some of the nutrients that are burned up in the exercise, while still providing a large calorie deficit to speed weight loss.

I would encourage you to skip the corn at least for a while, or even better forever. It's difficult to digest, and fits the textbook definition of empty calories. If you must have some corn, eat some creamed corn instead. But if you absolutely must have some corn on the cob, chew it as well as you possibly can.

Rule #1 - Cardio or Why I Would Be One of the 1st to Go in Zombieland
ItsMe2033 commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
There's always this option: http://www.lifespanf...0-dt3_model.jpg I think it would be less likely to become a clothes hanger than you might think. I currently use a tablet when I am on my elliptical cross trainer, and I love it. I also did something like this about 20 years ago with a computer monitor and keyboard mounted to my treadmill. This was before most people had internet access, but if I wanted to use my computer, I at least had to stand on the treadmill. -
Can anyone point me to a list of local Support Groups
ItsMe2033 replied to ItsMe2033's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found the original VST thread that points to it. It is http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/53953-charlotte-nc-area/page__st__20#entry572632 That thread links to the site that contained the directory. It is located at http://asmbs.org/support-group-directory/ Unfortunately they are redoing that section of their website. I accessed it perhaps a month ago and it was working, so hopefully they will have it up sometime soon.
