I went to my seminar in July. By the time I completed all requirements, doc requested approval from my BC plan In Oct, approval was rendered within 5 days & scheduled surgery for first week in Nov. While it may seem like a long time, it really went pretty quick.

How much time did you take off work?
Private Sleever replied to Dawnyellow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took off for 5 weeks. Didn't have any problems. Just took plenty of time to build up stamina, adjust to different food stages, work in daily walks and made other adjustments. Glad I did. -
Same reason I didn't tell my family or too many other folks. Too judgemental!!!!! I told a total of 4 very very supportive people & it's been great that way.

Anyone not drinking protien shakes or eating protien bars?
Private Sleever replied to varg's topic in Food and Nutrition
I drink one 8oz protein shake daily in the morning. its the Whey protein powder mixed w 8 oz of milk and covers 32 grams of my daily protein. the remainder i get from fish, chicken, yogurt & nuts. So my protein intake now is 65-75 grams daily. I very rarely eat meet as I find it too heavy for me now. But as long as you get in the required daily protein, especially from real food, doc said that's all that matters. -

Ok, i hear you. But no on should really come out and ask you that at work. It's inappropriate and it's protected under the HIPAA law. I told my HR person to get the my paperwork & FMLA approved thinking she would know what was going on when she received the paperwork from my doctor. Later found out I didn't have to tell here because my doctor only wrote "abdominal surgery." But oh well, the HR rep is sworn to secrecy.

I told only my husband, 2 very close friends & only the human resource person at work. I too didn't want to be judged or watched. When folks ask me how I lost, if i choose to tell them anything, i just tell them I'm on a journey to get & stay healthy through Exercise & healthier eating.

Prior to surgery, I had no signs of menopause. However, 3 months out, hot flashes & night sweats started. I know I'm at that age, but didn't know if the hormonal changes from surgery pushed me faster. Doc says it didn't. Not everyone can take it, but I found major relief with Estroven max strength. I call it my miracle pill. Within 10 days, hot flashes & night sweats disappeared. Had sleep apnea, Weight loss got rid of that too.

Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
Private Sleever replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you. At the end of my physicals for the last 3 yrs, doc gave me info on morbid obesity. Each time I'm thinking, " WHO is morbid obese?" So, I denied it for those three yrs. Until doc told me last yr if i returned for this year's physical with labs & weight the same or worse, i'd be medicated. i had to accept & tackle this weight thing head on. So glad I did. Funny thing, now I'm off the morbid obesity list, all labs normal, but still overweight. Next goal, off the overweight list. -

I was actually thinking about the band, but didn't know too much about it. After education myself & finding out that I may need to go back for periodic adjustments & then I actually saw the device. read up on the complications If i didn't go back for the required adjustments. i'm such a procrastinator sometimes, so went for the sleeve. I've also encountered folks that each had different procedures and spoke with them about their experiences. I was leaning more and more towards the sleeve. Once doc made recommendations based on medical conditions, I choose the sleeve. Best thing ever!!! SENDING GOOD JUE JUE YOUR WAY!!!! -

Private Sleever replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5' and weighed 198 when I started this journey. Told I should way only 97 lbs for my body type. Lost 56lbs @ 6 mon post op checkup. Now at 138 & feeling pretty good. Still losing 3-5 lbs each month. It slowed down, but steady. -
Weirdest thing, every time I moved or shifted, my heart monitor went nuts. Nurses came running into my room to see if I was ok. When I took a walk, nurses often came running from every direction because my heart rate was really high. No heart problems, believe it was just the anxiety of being in a hospital.

I hear you. I tried to hold off on buying new clothes for as long as possible. I was able to camouflage my baggy clothes for a few months. But when I did buy some, I couldn't believe how many sizes I lost. I didn't buy much because doc sad I'd come down another 2 or 3 sizes in another 3 months a the rate i' losing. Unbelievable!!!!
