dont drink and eat. WHY?
Private Sleever replied to Lawrence Washington's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right, and the quicker your stomach flushes, the quicker you'll feel hungry again & you'll want to eat sooner than necessary. -
Visitors in the hospital?
Private Sleever replied to Chefrod2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, it depends on your preference. Had my husband there the entire time (2 nights). No family because I didn't tell them. Didn't let my 2 best friends come see me as didn't want them to see me out of it. I think I probably would have tried to fight against my sleep trying to entertain them. So, I communicated with them via text. Thank goodness I was in a private room. Very peaceful stay. -
Coffee.....even decaf
Private Sleever replied to shannon crotts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happened to me too. I tried decaf after 4 mons and my sleeve didn't like it. So I didn't try it again until 6 mons & it was ok. -
Doc advised me that the lack of protein during extreme weight loss can cause hair loss for some folks.

Anyone had back issues before surgery...
Private Sleever replied to linda305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suffered from back problems pre-op. Had really bad back spasms, low back pain where I couldn't stand sometimes for longer that 10 mins especially in high heels. Had joint pain too. Three months after surgery i noticed back & joint problems subsiding. I'm 8 mons post-op now and I no longer feel back or joint pain. -
WLS Veterans---Should I Worry, or am I Just Neurotic?
Private Sleever replied to Vixynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Normal stuff. Your new pouch is adjusting & healing. That's the reason for the different post op diet stages to give it time. It will subside as it heals. -

Anyone try Keranique for hair loss/prevention?
Private Sleever replied to MsJones83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I lost hair, I only noticed it when I washed it. My hair is really thick so it really wasn't noticeable & only lasted until I was able to get in my daily protein requirements. So it lasted about 4 mons but it wasn't devastating for me at all. -

Has anyone not lost anything during the 6 months before surg?
Private Sleever replied to adargie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I wasn't required to lose any weight prior to the surgery, I lost 18 lbs between initial consult in July & my Nov surgery date. Prior to the 7 day pre-op diet, I worked on the transition of eating healthier. -

Energy drinks
Private Sleever replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was initially advised not to drink coffee. But after 5 mons doc gave approval to drink it if i must. suggested that i mix it though. Truth is my stomach can't tolerate to much caffeine at all now. So I mix a small cup 1/2 decaf & 1/2 reg when I do drink it and it's satisfying. I really just drink it only once a week. -

Hair loss...African Americans
Private Sleever replied to DeezJeanz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was losing hair initially but only noticed it when I washed it. I wear it short and natural but never any problems with thinning because my hair is really thick. Once I was able to intake at least 60 grams of protein it stopped. During the times when I was losing it, I used a keratin protein shampoo which may have minimized the hair loss.. -
My point was advising her to stop when you get that "stuck" feeling. Continuing to drink or eat after that feeling will make you vomit. if she stops, the vomiting should subside. By all means she should consult with her doctor for any medical concerns. However, at this point she also needed words of encouragement from us which is why he reached out. Sharing my experience was only to encourage her to let her know that it WILL get better.

Did you work your way up to that 30 min speed walk? When was your surgery? Perhaps it was too soon to speed walk? Body ache, you probably used muscles like you've never done before. May be dehydrated. Did you drink Water while walking?

I took off 5 weeks. Could have gone back after 2 because i had no pain, but doc authorized 5 weeks to allow me time to: build my stamina back up Get thru the first 3 post op diet phases Adjust to new schedule that incorporated exercise Glad I did.

I agree with all comments made. What you are going through is normal. Drink your fluids very slowly. As time goes on, you'll be able to tolerate the fluids better. Hang in there. it took me a couple of months to be able to drink the required fluids w/o that bloated feeling (or that stuck feeling) coming so quickly. And weeks to tolerate my Protein shakes w/o the dumping syndrome. But stick with it, it truly will get better. When you feel that "stuck" feeling, thats the feeling that my doc told me to look for. Said that was my first sign of being full. As time goes on and your new pouch has adjusted, you won't feel it as quickly. She told me when I get that feeling to back away from the food & fluids until it passes. Told me not to force anything and once it passes i was told to sip on fluids again or eat pop cycles an hour after i tried eating something to prevent dehydration. I was so frustrated with that "stuck" feeling coming so fast, I really didn't want to eat or drink anything. But I knew that would not have been good & I'd end up in the ER. Doc told me to take my time & not to rush my fluids or anything else. She reassured me as time went on, my system would adjust & I'd be able to meet my Fluid & protein intake. I'm almost 8 mons out & have no problems meeting the required fluid or protein intake. I said all of that to say, hang on in there!!!!! It truly will get better. Best of luck to you!!!
