Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to get all the information I can right now. So far, so good. My bmi is 40.2 so looks like I won't have to go through all those tests. NellieBean-Sorry you have to go to the NUT today lol, just tell them its not that deep, you want to be fit, and pretty thats all lol :-) Good luck to you all, and so sorry

surgeon First Consultation with Surgeon
OldskoolHeart posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello, With your first consultation with the surgeon, did they do their own exams or did they just go through your charts from your doctor? Just in case that does not make sense, did they get your BMI themselves or off of your chart? Did they do their own blood test or just look at your chart notes? Thanks, OldskoolHeart- 6 replies

Thanks for the reply I just re-read the PPO plan for BCBS-IL and it is not listed as a requirement. However I did not see a Nutritionist listed as a requirement either, or does the surgeon send you to one for the meal/eating portion that BCBS list as a requirement of the surgeon?

First Consultation with Surgeon

Thanks for the reply. My insuance doesn't require all that since I have BCBS-IL. So I will only have to do the endoscopy, meet with the surgeon, psych, and they don't even have a nutritionist as one of the requirements. I got a little nervous about that. I am scheduled for a physical and pap one week after the sleeve informational. Should I just do bloodwork that day too? -
Does anyone know if BCBS-IL PPO requires the primary physician to write a letter of medical necessity? I didn't see it on the requirements but someone replied to one of my questions and they said they had to have one?

Your insurance required a letter of necessity or do all physician's need to give one to the surgeon to perform the surgery? Or is this based on insurance? -
I talked with Herrin Hospital and they said they are apart of the PP0 plan, I believe Blue Distinctions are BCBS elite hospitals who have done surgery for a while.

Is everyone using the Blue Distinction Centers of BCBS. I was told they were recommended but not required, am I correct?
