eating too fast So...apparently I have to chew slowly! Who knew? :)
Lilechka posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been a fast eater. My boyfriend compared me to a soldier ramming through MESS hall today--in and out in under five minutes. I get hungry, I pounce on the food, I'm done. Apparently, I can't do that anymore. And I don't know why it is so hard for me to learn. I still have the hunger, so when it's time to eat, I eat too quickly, not realizing that I have eaten too much and then I am in trouble. Has anyone else struggled with this? What are some tips to tame the MESS HALL MONSTER? -
Cheated on my post-op diet today...OMG! Will I die!?
Lilechka posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am one week post-op, on full liquids, but had some mushy food today. It did not sit well with my stomach and I threw some of it up. Now I am very scared. I feel fine now, but should I look for warning signs of a leak? Should I call my doctor? Or am OK? Thanks! -

LOL! I was just saying that I also wanted to know that. That wasn't an attempt to dismiss your question. -

Just two weeks. I'm on mushed foods. -
Congratulations! What an achievement!

My understanding is that leaks are actually rare, something like 1 in 100. They also subside significantly with time. You could actually call your surgeon and ask about her/his stats of leaks--chances are, they are very low. Your anxiety, however, that is a different thing. Very natural. I freak out occasionally for different reasons (which I don't want to share for fear of scaring you), but I just try to breathe, and let myself know that I would be able to handle it IF it happens. No need to stress yourself out while you're healing (I know, easier said than done!). I hope this helps! All the best to you!

All the best to you! Really feel your pain! First month sucks! I'm told it gets better--I'm still kind of waiting

So, I am very grateful for the opportunity to have had this surgery. I've battled weight for years. However, at 1&1/2 weeks post-op, I'm realizing I'm grieving my old stomach. This is rough. Has anyone else felt like that? How do we get through it? 'Cause right now I feel like I won't be able to enjoy food again and it's sad.

I know this might be too late, but you should probably be "good to go" sooner than 3-4 hours.

Grieving My Old Stomach
Lilechka replied to Lilechka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you guys so much for the affirmations and support! I really appreciate it! It is so nice to know that others have experienced this and that it gets better. I definitely can't wait! -
Sometimes, just anything not mushed, regular. I miss my stomach sometimes. 1 & 1/2 weeks post-op.

For me it worked very quickly (a few hours). Be careful with the dosage. I wouldn't go with the maximum recommended. Try the smallest one first (or even 1/2 of that) and see how that works. On my first try, I took the largest dose and it sort of made me go to the bathroom A LOT, so be careful.

My experience, like many great comments here suggest, is that the seminar will provide you with a lot of information to alleviate some of the anxiety you are feeling. In my case, I had an advocate provided to me by my surgeon's office and she was the one who dealt with the insurance companies. They (the advocates) are usually very familiar with all the plans and know exactly what the requirements are. Wait to see if the surgeon you have chosen will provide you with this service. It will make you life A LOT easier. Good luck!

Good job! You survived! Yeah!

How soon post-op did you start excercising?!
Lilechka replied to penguin13's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Happy to report, 10 days post-op, went back to the gym today! Treadmill walking and even ran a bit. Felt so liberated! My stitches still hurt a bit so I didn't push too hard, but it feels so exciting to exercise now when you feel like it will really contribute to real weight loss! -

Great question! -
I like that you started this post! I want to be real with this surgery. Not an alcoholic, but I still want to enjoy life occasionally. 'Cause, heck, otherwise, why live it? Thank you for the question!

Really great! And thank you for the additional links below your profile! Very helpful!

Wow! This was greatly helpful! Thank you so much! Liliya

Yes. Hungry, miss real food, it's an adjustment... I'm whining, I know, but I think it's good to vent sometimes. I just hope this is all worth it at the end. I'm not losing weight as fast as other people so that's alarming too. Thanks for listening!

Great to hear! I'm one week post-op (June 13). Getting cranky!
