    Sunflower seeds

I had to wait until six months for anything with hard bits. For me, a slider is any food that I could mindless and easily overeat without realizing it. Nuts is one of them. If I went to White Castle ever again, their Sliders would be a sliders for me. When I was a teenager (in the 60's) we also called them "grease bombs." Also, I could get in trouble real fast with chips, fries, Cookies, cake........so on and so forth.
  2. Ketosis is what I was thinking, too. That combined with some foul tasting liquid meds doesn't help. After weaning off of flour, sugar, grease and caffeine, I have discovered the real taste of real food (not factory edibles). I used to lovvvvvvve tuna salad, but I was adding heaps of mayonnaise and artificial sweetener. Now that I can discern the real taste of the tuna itself.....not so much. I used to hate spinach. My mother made wilted spinach with vinegar and forced me to eat it when I was a kid. When I started drinking Protein shakes, my NUT had me add fresh spinach to increase the nutrient content. Once I did that and found out that fresh spinach doesn't have any more flavor than iceberg lettuce, I now use it every day in a salad. My taste for food sure did change. Regular sugar makes me gag now. I don't need to add salt to anything, not even boiled eggs or sliced cucumbers. My pallate is entirely different.
  3. I had chronic diverticulitis for over ten years prior to my sleeve surgery in December 2013. About a month pre-op, I ended up in critical condition in the hospital for eight days with ischemic colitis. The doctor told me later that he thought he was going to lose me. My docs went ahead and cleared me for the sleeve. I gotta tell ya, I have not had one flare-up of colitis since my surgery, and that was 2 1/2 years ago. I follow a standard post-op diet and lifestyle and feel better than I have in decades.
  4. I could have 1 serving of soft fruit like 1/2 banana or canned peaches or applesauce like that, and NOT in a smoothie. I was told to not drink my fruit. This is not the time for fresh peaches or fresh apple. I could not have raw fruits and veggies until three months. Your tummy is new. Just as you would not give a baby a fresh apple, you shouldn't expect your new tummy to digest one either. Be patient....all in due time.

    Hospital stay

My insurance (BCBS Federal) pre-approved five days but I only stayed two. Went in on a Monday morning and came home Wednesday evening.

    Telling people

Why would anyone be looking at your scars unless you are a belly dancer? I agree that Gallbladder scars are similar. You don't have to lie, but you don't have to tell everything you know!

    Rant: Rude people!

Good for you that you wrote to the manager. He would never know that the server is costing him customers, either because YOU won't go back or because the negative word of mouth (and burning YELP report with do some damage. From the "Every cloud has a silver lining" department, we call this a NSV, Non-Scale-Victory. Actually, dropped drawers is a first NSV for many of us.

    How to start losing before

Here are the basic principles that many of our programs require. It will work pre-op as well. Eat your lean Protein first, and plenty of it. Think grilled chicken, not chicken nuggets. Drink Water until your eyeballs float. That means wean yourself off of beverages with calories. Don't eat anything made in a factory. That includes starchy foods such as flour, sugar, Pasta, (limit potatoes). Focus on fresh produce. Think apple instead of apple pie. Think steamed broccoli instead of scalloped corn. Don't become part of the sofa. The human body is mechanical and designed to be in motion. If nothing else, get up and march through the house and up and down the stairs several times a day. I lost 22 pounds pre-op following these principles. I wish you the best. Welcome to the forum. Opinions and tact will vary, but we mean well.
  9. Here are 1,302 other reasons. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/219831-what-was-your-final-straw-that-broke-the-camels-back/page-131?hl=%2Bfinal+%2Bstraw#entry4122527
  10. I am 64 and have been on one or another diet and exercise plan since my second daughter was born in 1978. My weight yo-yo'd between 160 and 200 for years, and then finally by the time I made my decision in August of 2013, my weight was 235. What convinced me to get bariatric surgery?????? I had a stroke caused by high blood pressure caused by obesity. My spine started collapsing because it could not bear that weight any longer while I fooled around with yet another diet. My choice was do something on buy a wheelchair.
  11. At 8 weeks I could eat 3/4 cup of food. At 2 years plus, I can eat a cup of dense food, or two cups of Soup which is mostly broth. It sounds like he was not ready for bariatric intervention. He is not only flaunting quantity, he is forsaking the very nutrition he needs to help his body heal and grow strong. So......I am guessing that he is also drinking with his meals, making drinking sodas and juices, eating other starches like noodles and rice, not taking his supplements, and missing follow--up appointments with his bariatric team. Hopefully you can set a good example for him. Here is the story (and coroner's remarks) of a patient who suffocated from overeating after bariatric surgery. Congratulations! We'll leave the light on for you.
  14. Nah......I will never get tired of this one, or anything sharing our NSVs. I don't even mind it when brand new newbies ask the same questions that come up every week.
