7 Days tomorrow...cottage cheese and eggs!
nancyell18 replied to KCSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try mixing some flavored hummus into your cottage cheese, It tastes good. -
I have back problems and 2 replaced hips. I bought a wedge to sleep on and it really helps with the back sleeping. Last nite I tried to sleep on my side a couple of times and I think it's getting better. I'm 7 days out.

What to do with the negAtive nellies and Nay sayers
nancyell18 replied to catobird1225's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also have a few people close to me who don't understand what or why I'm doing this. I'm on day 11 of my pre-op diet ( My Dr's is protein shakes and non-starchy veggies only) I've lost 10 lbs so far. One relative says, "Why don't you just keep doing what you're doing?" I just laugh. -
You should consult your Dr. It's been years, but I breastfed both of my kids. Your body needs extra calories and nutrition to produce healthly milk for your baby. I personally do not believe that you should diet while breastfeeding.

I am having surgey on Aug 13. I wish I had your pre-op diet. Mine is for only 2 weeks, but I can only have 4 protein shakes a day and non-starchy vegetables!

2 weeks out and tolerating everything...not getting particularly full either :(.
nancyell18 replied to MumtazG38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Read the subject "Do lightweights lose slower?" I think that might be part of your problem also. You are reading about all of the great weight losses from heavier people that have a lot more to lose. You don't have that much to lose and I think that what you have done so far is fantastic. Keep it up, if you follow directions, it will work for you. -

nancyell18 replied to PGee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought about making these, but with the unflavored Knox Gelatin. Add your own flavors.I have chocolate extract, mint, orange, lime, cinnamon, almond. Add your own sweetener to taste. Zero calories and gives you the satisfaction of chewing something. -
I'm with you, my surgery is Aug 13. I was about the same weight you were. Same results from dieting. 'Good Luck, you're not alone!!!

Bypass instead of sleeve?
nancyell18 replied to nancyell18's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks everyone. I just wanted to know if anyone was experiencing the problem with the sleeve. I have definitely decided to go with the sleeve, just having a little case of cold feet. My surgery is on Aug 13. -
I had my pre-op apt today. My surgeon tried to talk me into having the bypass instead of getting sleeved. I e have gastric reflux, although it's not that bad. He said there is a 15% chance of the reflux being worse after surgery. It usually be relieved with medication. He also said that if I have a hiatal hernia, he will fix it and the reflux will probably be better. Has anyone had increased reflux after getting the sleeve? I want to keep my stomach, small as it will be!

Flying on an airplane after surgery?
nancyell18 replied to MandyNoel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They put people that have been operated on in Mexico on a plane a few days after surgery. I see no reason not to fly. If you are really concerned, ask your doctor. -
I started my journey back in March. After meeting all of the prerequisites that my insurance requires, I was finally approved today! I will be sleeved on August 13. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I am both excited and nervous at the same time!

I was approved after 4 months. I had to do the Psych, Cardiologist, 3 months nutritionist, sleep study ( 2 times ) and Endoscopy. I have Cigna, it took almost 2 weeks for approval once all of the information was submitted.

I had to do the Lovenox shots after my hip replacements. You don't even feel it, they're so tiny. -
Too "small" for surgery?
nancyell18 replied to bettyboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have had many people tell me that I'm not that big. I am 250 lbs, 5'3" and have a BMI of 45. I carry my weight well. I think that I was the smallest person in my informational seminar. People don't realize that I've been fighting my weight all of my life. Diets, WW, Fen fen, hypnosis, ally, exercise classes. I started researching WLS about 10 years ago and had originally thought that I wanted the band. When I finally decided this year to do it, I changed my mind and decided to go with VSG. I have the complete support of all of the medical people that I have dealt with. I am presently waiting for insurance approval! I Hope to be done by end of August. I'm so excited ! -
I live in CT too. I have not been scheduled for my sleeve yet, but I have finished all of the prelims. I too have Dr. Gedeon and like him very much. Bristol Hospital is supposed to have one of the best weight loss surgery programs in the state. I hope to be sleeved by the end of August. This waiting is for the birds!
-
I also have Cigna and am waiting for approval. I have a BMI of 45 and High blood pressure and sleep apnea. I was afraid that my letter was sent too soon because my 3 NUT visits were not 90 days. I hope I am as lucky as you are!! Congratulations!

Artifical Sweeteners and Headaches
nancyell18 replied to lash44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners. I make my own water flavors. I use either monkfruit, stevia or nectresse. I find they don't bother me. I add a variety of flavors of extracts or flavors with a little bit of sweetener to my water. I have almond, raspberry, lavender, cinnamon, lime, orange, lemon, ginger and coconut. I mix them up. It makes my water much more enjoyable and I can sweeten to my taste.
