AUG 23 Anyone joining me?!
pjanes54 replied to pjanes54's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thursday I start a one week full liquid. Some have clear liquids only--wow now that would be torture. I'm going to spike up some slim fast w/protein powder, fruit etc. and see how that goes down! claramae: you have been through a lot over the last several months--you'll be able to breeze right through this little ole' LAP. Good for you-it's amazing that strength comes to us when we call upon it. -
here are my doc's guidelines: FYI ONLY:this is the info provided by the Bariatric Clinic that i am using liquid DIET GUIDELINES PRE- WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY 1. Choose 3 "liquid calorie meals" per day. DO NOT drink liquids that contain more than 10 calories at any other time of the day. 2. Each "liquid meal" will consist of 1 cup (8 oz) of liquids that contains Protein and calories. (see options below) 3. Drink your "liquid meal" over a 30-45 minute period. 4. Drink only non-calorie beverages at other times of the day. It is important to stay hydrated. EXAMPLES OF "LIQUID MEAL" BEVERAGE CHOICES: · Skim or 1% milk · Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar-free) made with skim or 1% milk · Ready-made liquid supplements (Ensure, Boost, Slim Fast) · Yogurt smoothie · Soy milk · Creamed Soups REMEMBER: The above liquids ARE NOT appropriate after you start eating foods again. TIPS: 1. Try having low-sodium chicken broth to help you feel full 2. Eat sugar-free Jello or sugar-free Popsicles between meals, if you start to feel hungry. 3. Avoid places and social situations where food is the primary focus, or bring your liquid meal with you. 4. Stay busy 5. Avoid watching TV commercials--most of them are about food! 6. Ask a friend to try doing the liquid diet with you. 7. Drink plenty of non-calorie fluids. Keeping your stomach full of non-calorie liquids will help to decrease hunger.

Good luck on jumping through the flaming hoops! My journey has been 5 months and it has gone fairly well. No big surprises, a couple of rescheduled appointments, couple of people on vacations, insurance needing MORE info twice, but all in all, fairly smooth. It is a difficult time..waiting and planning. I am not a very patient person but, found I needed to be! -

You can do it! I just discovered SF green tea w/mixed berry and green tea w/citrus. I am trying to replace soda w/non-carbonated. I am going to try to get extra Protein in EVERYTHING I drink (well, maybe not everything) but, that is supposed to help curb the hunger. I'm thinking, super smoothies, or something similar. Carnation Instant Breakfast, scoop of Protein Powder, banana, frozen strawberries, couple of ice cubes, yogurt....oh, and someone mentioned powdered milk added some good nutrition. -
Thanks for picking this "activity" up. It should be a fun one! Today's your B-Day!! Sending good thoughts your way. Good luck for a smooth surgery and...

Jessi Ahroni is a nurse practioner in diabetes education that recieved her band in 1998. She currently works in the wls field as a result of her experiences. It was interesting to read her personal story, in particular what motivated her to seek the band. We all have our stories to tell, but it still surprises me that there are so many similarities that we, as obese men and women, share. We should all write books and get rich. Shall we? Nah, probably not. Journaling, though may be something that might prove helpful. --one last thing about Dr Ahroni's book was that my doc and the bariatric clinic that he heads follow that regiment almost to a tee. That was reassuring to me. Band Chick: it's so cool to trip and fall into a surprise. we have to stay open...but, really, Fitness? good for you! Me :faint:maybe in a year or two, maybe:) justplainme: it is a quick read, but, jam-packed with terrific band advice.

**EXPANDING HORIZONS** doesn't that sound exciting??....we'll see, right? Well, I am going outside my comfort zone and volunteering to do this. Check out the thread that has been started. :ranger:

pjanes54's lapband day is Aug 23! I hoped and prayed I would be a Crazy Ates and so...here I am! -
Doc's office called--insurance has agreed to cover my lapband--whew! It is real now. I'm excited, scared, happy, thrilled, fearful, apprehensive all at the same time! I know it is the best thing for me to do at this point in my life but, yet, the unknown is...the unknown-and that is scary. From what I am reading all of these reactions and feelings are to be expected-it just feels so psycho--its not a small undertaking--whoops, wrong word. Ha...see what i mean?? Say "Goodnight, Gracie." "Goodnight, Gracie." ?????!!!!!AGH!!!!I think I'll sleep on it and try for some sanity tomorrow. TTFN
