It could take anywhere from several days to several weeks depending on the insurance. If the coordinator doesn't get back to you, I'd keep on persisting to get a response to see if she's submitted. I had to call my surgeon's coordinator to find out she hadn't submitted, and when I spoke with her directly, she submitted that same day. Hang in there!

I've always been a side sleeper most of my life. And I just started noticing a few weeks ago, every time I wake up, the inner portions of both knees (the part of the knees that touch together when you lay on your side) are really sore when I wake up, and if I press on the during the day they're still sore. Anyone experience anything like that?? So weird!

Gastric Sleeve Safety
DestinClair1983 replied to Fuff's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even though they weren't being performed as a weight loss tool, gastrectomies (partial or total) have been performed since the 1880s as a treatment for stomach cancer or severe stomach ulcers. Knowing that, I felt safer with the vertical sleeve gastrectomy than the gastric bypass because of the long history it has lol. -
My doctor let me after 6 weeks, but I've heard of some others waiting longer than that before they ate beef depending on how it's prepared. When I ate it, I felt fine, no ill effects at 6 weeks out.

I suggest "The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve." It has a wealth of information re: everything you need to know pre-op and post-op. I bought it on Amazon a few months before surgery and I learned a lot!

Any Regrets?
DestinClair1983 replied to shrinkingwillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll never regret my decision to have had the sleeve. I'm 70 pounds lighter than my highest weight. I still have a ways to go but my diabetes is gone, I'm off my blood pressure meds, no more chest pains or shortness of breath, and just feel so much better overall! The sleeve has been helping me stick to the plan and I know that I will reach my goals because of this amazing tool. Good luck! -
Yaaay! Congratulations you guys, that's awesome! Good luck to the both of you!

Wow, that's gotta be frustrating. It always makes me scratch my head how one insurance requires one thing, and another insurance requires something different. In my mind, there are certain things that should be standard. Nevertheless, I wish you luck on your journey!

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia prior to surgery on one of the tests my surgeon had me do. I completely forgot to ask before the surgery if they were going to repair it, and when I asked about it post-op in the hospital, they said they had no record of a hiatal hernia repair. I hope it doesn't cause me too many problems in the future where I will need surgery to get it fixed when he could've killed 2 birds with one stone during my sleeve surgery.

Average weight loss
DestinClair1983 replied to butterfly2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Butterfly, my height is also 5'4, and I weighed 284 pounds. After 3 months I had lost 50 pounds. But like they said above, everyone is different, but as long as you stick to the plan, you will lose weight. Of course there will be stalls/plateaus along the way, but that is normal. -
I was allowed to shower while I was in the hospital with some help, but it felt wonderful. You don't really have to bring your own toiletries since they provide you with everything that you need. I personally don't like the hospital lotion, so I brought my own. But they give you soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, etc.

I cheated .. Bad!
DestinClair1983 replied to lmdx0sleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't sweat it, as long as you jump right back in and stick to the plan. I also struggled with my pre-op diet and had some cheats, but we're not perfect and it can happen. Just do what you know you have to do and keep moving forward. -
Girls.... that time of the month, do you gain weight?
DestinClair1983 replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still usually gain a couple of pounds when I'm on my period, but I promptly lose it when it's over, along with whatever I would've lost otherwise I assume. -
Amazing! Awesome job

weight loss may be slowing down but
DestinClair1983 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We're on a similar boat. I'm off my bp and diabetic meds, but I'm still on cholesterol meds and still have sleep apnea. I can't wait to get off of this CPAP machine for good! I'm hoping to lose a good bit more weight before I go back to see the sleep specialist to help me get off this machine. Congrats on what you've accomplished thus far!
