awesome results! quite an improvement. not sure i will go that way but congrats. -
it seems unlikely that u can starve the body and then ask it to build energy demanding muscle. IMHO

Veggie haters how did you do?
aliekat55 replied to Soontobethinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no problem. I push the protein, then the complex carbs and a few fats. I focus on keeping the sugars and high glycemic index carbs to a min. vegetables are over rated IMHO- i am taking those bariatric vitamins after all. My wife gets her veggies via the V8 splash and that can work, but why bother? I have not had any salad yet ( lettuce and tomato--which are the only things I care for) because they are suposedly hard on the sleeve. remember you can live fine on a pure protein diet but not on a pure vegetable diet--says something about what is important. Perhaps i could eat more if I ate vegetables but that is true also if I chewed on cardboard. -

NUT had interesting info about why to chew, chew, chew
aliekat55 replied to AtlantaRed's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
xclnt info. that helps a lot. I could not figure out why i would have trouble with a tiny bit of food if i swallowed too soon -out of habit. now i know. i am being very careful because that pressure feeling is awful and pacing for 25+ minutes is not fun. I even had trouble with peanut butter ( smooth) when i took too big a slurp--peanut butter! it just sat there for 40 minutes. I cant even look at a container without feeling sick. -

I am with you. I have dropped from a 48 pants to 36 in five months. i have nothing to wear and although i hate shopping am going with my wife today for clothes. I get one or two at a time because i am getting smaller so quickly. the sleeve is a lifesaver. -
no longer obese (first time in adult life)

I broke though the 30 bmi barrier. I went on a hiking vacation and could not weight for 11 days. I hiked for 4-5 hours daily and had no problems with keeping my food intake to normal levels. I lost 9 pounds. (OMG) and went from 30.5 to 29.1 (approx.) I have never been that low. Wow! My wife doesnt think I have enough to lose to get to 25. That is 26 pounds away, so it is hard to tell. My goal has always been 179 (12 pounds to go) so i could be the "typical 180 pound man" they always talk about. It would also put me lighter than all my friends and my brother, not that i am in any way competitive or anything. -
I am having a hard time reconciling the image in the mirror with my self perception. the numbers tell me that i am smaller than the person i see, but no matter how much i analyze i cannot see that thinner self, perhaps in a few months.

2 Years 7 Months - Moving Forward
aliekat55 replied to lash44's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
high blood pressure and hypertension are the same. so it moved out and it is not there. your enduring results are an inspiration to us all. so far my sleeve is working BTE but i only have two months, not years like you. -
I believe these coments are totally disingenuous. I am nowhere near enough to be considered skinny but i am getting warnings. tiny people dont get these 'warnings'. I do not feel any genuine concern for my safety but rather some psychological self care on their part. nevertheless, i let it go and keep working at my program. It is after all about me living in a world that is not kind to us, whether we lose the weight or not.

thanks for the heads up. they got to fix that search thing. going through hundreds of screens was for the birds

Nausea with Multi-vitamin
aliekat55 replied to guthsj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had this also and was unable to take them for weeks. my NUT said that with the shakes she wasnt in any hurry. That it was better in the evening after a meal--perhaps, i did not notice that. however after the third or fourth week I got celebrate capsules and I tolerated them much better. by the fifth week i have no problem whatsoever. good luck -
I cannot believe reality. five months ago i was near my highest ever 285, today i broke through to 199!! I have not been under 200 since my 13th birthday. I am 57 years old, that is a hell of a long time. I dont feel that light, i dont see myself that light and it all feels delusional. I have been consumed by food and weight and diets for nearly fifty years and now several miracles have happened, i am not hungry, i dont think about food, I actually lose weight when i dont eat. The very hard work is not even a problem. I just finished a five hour flight in the middle seat and i was more comfortable than i have ever been on an airplane. NSV's all over the place. thanks all for the support I find here.

I have pressure points that ache. i cannot sit in one position for long or even lay down on my side for the padding around my bones is gone. i hope that goes away. I thought being lighter would be easier in this respect.

Fear will do amazing things. I routinely have patients that will worry about the most rare of diseases while not paying attention to obvious dangers as not using seat belts, smoking, excesive drinking, routine immunizations, yada yada.

I am also struggling to get calories in. thank goodness for Unjury vanilla shakes, for some reason i just love them. I can get in 1000-1200 by working at it which should be enough but i am exercising about an hour a day and i keep getting messages from MFP that I am in starvation mode. I am still losing weight at a faster pace than expected so I wasnt too worried. this week the weight loss slowed down, which was inevitable and actually necessary. I wish it had waited one more pound so I could have been under 200 for the first time since 7th grade (1969) for you youngsters out there. My nut says that as long as i keep my protein high not to worry about the messages.

yes. I have itching in armpits, belly and on the presure points on my butt. otc cortisone cream helps immensely
-
as i understant it, a panny is a small part of the tt. the tt involves cutting into the muscles that have grown slack and is a much more significant ( and expensive) surgery

I dont recognize myself and then i see all the wrinkles. my skin is falling off. so far this is an nsv for me, i am nearly 60 and have no illusions left. I see it as a badge of success. the only one that even comes close to bothering me is the belly. I shall see what it looks like when (if?) i get to goal and maintain it for a while. It would be interesting to get it removed at that time but from what i can tell the panniculectomy seems to be a far tougher surgery than the sleeve and i did not have the easiest time with that one.

does anyone get full to fast?
aliekat55 replied to dee2rod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is part of the plan.I have a new habit. I like to knit 8" squares for blankets orphans in South africa and so i take a tiny bite chew well and knit two rows, then time for my next bite. i could not believe how much easier it was to eat a full meal ( half a cup). no problems, not burps, not pressure--and i hate the pressure. Still felt full at the end but a comfortable easy onset full. I expect to be making a ton of squares.
