MFP calories: Aim for goal or net?

I have been fighting the same conundrum. my experience is that MFP overcalculates exercise calories so I dont make them up unless i burned off more than 400 and then I only partially make them up . this has worked well and I find i lose weight better this way. It may be different for you, depending on your exercise, may have to experiment a bit.

    Tummy tuck today!

Thanks guys, i will look into that mini. Never in my life did i think I would visit a plastic surgeon--go figure. its like yogi berra says, prediction is very hard, particularly about the future.
  3. I suppose they are trying to get an idea of how many people failed at 3 years. as well as how much they miss pigging out. i miss being able to chug cold drinks after a good hard workout. but i am only three months out.

    Tummy tuck today!

Hi, I am nearly at goal and do not like the mass of extra skin at my belly but being 60 I am not particular about the overall cosmetic result, i just want the skin gone. it seems that a Panniculectomy would have a much faster recovery. is that your understanding? Also i cannot take 4 to 6 weeks off work and although not as intense as Butterthebean's work it requires good mobility. BTW--- thanks for the laughs. i do plan to wait until my weight has been stable at least 6 months but my life requires significant advanced planning. any input would be appreciated.
  5. There are many challenges. will you think ahead and not put yourself in a place where you have few options but to eat poorly? how much alcohol is in your life? ( no judgement, just huge amounts of calories and bad choices if alot has been imbibed). will you tire of the limitation and being unable to eat like your friends and therefore stretch out your sleeve or will you eat slider foods? there have been very successful young people but they were willing to change their attitude to food and exercise. for me it was "am i willing to do whatever it takes?" i waited years to get the surgery until the answer was a resounding yes. I wish you the best of luck.
  6. It has taken some fiddling but my body does better with 30%Protein, 45% carbs and th difference in fats. but it is very good carbs, no Pasta, no potato, no corn, only a tiny amount of whole wheat bread products, and only the sugar that is in foods. still i need 1700+ calories a day so that is 150+ grams of protein--and it is a challenge to get it all in each day. if i drop below that amount i stop losing weight ( go figure). (of course i do exercise 8 to 10 hours a week now that my knee doesn't hurt.) experiment around a bit and see what works best for you.
  7. it is not magic. i know many people after a gastric bypass that are bigger than when they started. a full 40% of people after wls do not even reach the very easy goal of losing 60% of their excess surgery. if you are not willing to do the fairly minor things of measuring and counting your food and daily exercise i think you will be highly dissapointed. this site is full of people that are having a hard time losing after surgery even with exercise and counting their meals. the one good thing for many of us is that the hunger changes, there is still head hunger, there is still stress eating, poor choices, poor planning, etc. Of course this may only be my experience, but check out what the vets say, the successfull ones. I have yet to see anyone say that it was easy that they did not have work the sleeve, that there were periods of failure to be overcome by focused determination. in fact most of them say they wished they had worked harder, exercised sooner and harder.
  8. if you have not tried unjury protein shakes they are worth a shot. i found them highly superior in taste to the others. I exercise a lot and had to increase my calorie (ergo protein) intake to 150gm a day and i could not do it without that. even with that it is a challenge on most days. my Nut has me on 45% carbs 30 protein 25% fat but that is based on a 1500-1600 calorie diet (dont know how i am still losing on that large a number). when i was at 1200 the % protein was higher and the fat was lower.

    Tummy tuck today!

Thanks everyone for this highly entertaining thread, specially butter. I am only 3 months out and i am not sure what i will do. I dont mind the sharpei suit I now have except for the belly part. however the cost and the drains do not sound appealing. amazing results though.

    Heightened sense of smell...

it was so intense right after surgery but it faded after a month or two. I am back to not smelling anything. interesting, before surgery and for a while afterwards i loved greek yogurt. now i cannot eat it. odd

How do I tell him I am not interested?

Be blunt and clear but not mean. guys are dense, we need clarity. it is the kindest thing. dont string him along with excuses because he wont get the hint. we are a rather shallow bunch. IMHO
  12. did not have sleep apnea but my wife said it completely stopped my snoring.
  13. love the Propophyl. that is the stuff they give you and it is the best sleep i have had since i was young. restfull sleep and a very easy wakening. By the way it is what Michael Jackson paid big bucks to get that idiot doctor to give him--because it is such a wonderful sleep. but in the OR it is given correctly with good monitoring. I asked for some TO GO--but they demurred.

Gentlemen... Please advise me! Re: Cheating

IMHO--cheating is just the last symptom of a bigger problem. He has to want not to cheat and therefore not put himself in the situations that would enable that. that being said, life is complicated, and you have to make a decision considering the effects leaving/staying has on you, your kids, etc. best of luck.
  15. how did the tattoo's fare with the awesome weight loss?
  16. love Unjury. a step above the others i tried. the other thing if you like the taste but it bothers your tummy, then do one sip every half hour (as part of your fluids) or so through the day, not enough to rile your stomach but enough to finish it before bedtime.

    Someone made my day!

Yesterday i went in to see a patient who had not been in the office for a few years. His face said it all-- who the hell are you? when i told him i was still me he hessitantly asked, are you sure? he was looking hard trying to see any semblance of the doc he had seen before. pretty cool

    Someone made my day!

I think people understand that weight is a sensitive issue and they are hessitant to mention it unless it is overwhelmingly obvious. People did not mention it until i had lost well over 50 pounds but all of the sudden (around 70 pounds) it is so obvious that everyone mentions it. good job
  19. You wont be able to keep it from her if she comes after the surgery. trust me on that. My mother came one week before surgery and that was hard enough, but afterwards with the diet and recovery it will be many weeks before you can fake it well enough to fool someone that lives in the same house.

    October Sleevers - Men's Room

No to both. it took me about 36 hours to be able to chill at home and another day or two before I could have made it to a game. On the other hand i am old 58 and the lady who had her vsg before me looked great 8 hours afterwards. so you may have to see. If you go I would make sure you have an exit strattegy so you can go home early if you start feeling bad.

    Restarting vitamins?

It was nearly a month before i could stomach them fully. i managed on one a day in the evening with my biggest 'meal'. even then it made me nauseated. Now i am ok with the capsules, the chewables still bother me--go figure. I just realized that three capsules are the usual dose. i have been doing two. need to follow directions but my Y chromosome stops me from reading them.
  24. most excellent! quite a good role model. I am only out 3 months and worry about keeping it up for a while. I too love MFP- a life saver and my exercise (rowing and treadmill) BTW--such a serious face in the current pic.
  25. do you have a goal in mind? My goal was arbitrary and now that i am close i dont know where i should end up.
