    Sleep Apnea Questions

I was set on 15 as well and was told the same thing about my narrow airway. After 45 pounds they reduced the pressure. Getting off this thing is my #1 NSV. I hate this damn thing even though I feel much better after starting it a few months ago.

    Sleep Apnea Questions

I have it. I was diagnosed while I was going through the insurance approval process. I'm only 3.5 weeks post-op and I've already had to have the pressure reduced by 25%.
  5. I'm about 4 weeks out and still have a little tenderness right around the bottom of my belly button. My doc said they same thing. It's the only soreness or tenderness I have anymore and it's a lot less than it was before.

    CLOSE.....VERY CLOSE

One thing to consider is a metabolic test. Everyone's is different. My doctor has me do a 10-minute one where I have to breathe into a machine and it tells me what my rate is. You could use that test to work with your NUT on a detailed plan for you.

    Hard to believe

I stepped on the scale this morning and in the 23 days since I started my two week preop diet, I'm down 45 pounds. 23 pounds in the last 9 days since my surgery. I'm in awe.

    this may start a riot.

Congrats, your doctor has different advice than other doctors. Something that has been discussed a million times on these forums. As has been discussed, everyone should follow their own surgeons instructions and not what they find on here, including this thread.

    When hunger scares me...

Talking with my nonop friends, this sounds pretty normal. I actually asked them about this because I had this before I was even doing preop diet. Many of them said they had days when they were just hungrier than other days. I never understood it, but my nutritionist talks about if I am feeling hungry (truly hungry and not head hunger) that I should up my lean Proteins a little. But I think GG is right. If you are bouncing back and forth between 500-1000, I bet you would be ok.

    On the fence for surgery...

At the end of the day, you have to decide. I don't think you'll find a doctor that would say you were at low risk for all sorts of morbidities with a BMI of 35. When I started the process of getting approved, I only had mild hypertension and was 36. However, every time I went for a physical, I was terrified I was going to be told I had developed Type II diabetes. Every time, the doctor told me I was at high risk for it. I too had tried most diets: Atkins, medifast, nutrisystem, normal and regular dieting. All worked in the short term but eventually I regained my losses plus more to the point I had a BMI of 47. All without having anything that a low level blood pressure medicine couldn't take care of. After my last physical in which I was terrified of being diagnosed with diabetes and having gone through another post-diet regain, I decided enough was enough. I couldn't let my fear of diabetes motivate me to lose and keep off any weight and I was tired of letting my size be the first thing people noticed about me. I started looking at lap band and quickly realized sleeve was the better option for me. One of the big draws for me was that I was not a snacker or grazer; I liked large meals. And looking at many posts here and seeing what other sleevers eat in person, I don't think it would be a big deal socially. Many guys eat a 4-6 ounces at a meal, which would be a decent dent in a plate at a meal. It is tough for the first couple months as we ease back into normal foods and getting to the 4-6 ounces we can eat at a meal. I'm still in that process right now and it is still odd. The other night, I went to dinner with friends, ordered some bisque and ate about 3 ounces of the liquid. Same thing at lunch last week. I'm only 13 days postop though. I'm realizing that socializing and eating huge meals are completely independent on each other. In fact, I have enjoyed it more as I am less focused on devouring the huge plate in front of me and more on chatting up friends. I too am very social. In fact, my very first post on these forums was in the Man Room asking about socializing after the sleeve. I love going out to bars, clubs, concerts, sporting events, etc. I do it all still without any issues. I haven't started back on any alcohol yet and likely won't for a while because in my mind, if I made this huge decision, I'm doing it right. I enjoy alcohol like most of us, but I've enjoyed it plenty on my way to a high BMI. Many, many sleevers drink and I will again eventually. But I still go out and have fun at bars and whatnot. At the end of the day you have to decide whether you want it or not. It's a hell of a decision and one that everyone naturally questions during the process. Socializing is one that I think you will find ends up not being an issue folks worry about.
  11. I'm about two weeks out from my surgery and am up to walking 5 miles around the neighborhood at one time. How long after surgery did folks wait to start doing something like elliptical? I have my follow up on Tuesday and will ask then but am curious as to what everyone else did/was told.

    travel after sleeve?

You shouldn't have any problems. Folks travel a few weeks after the surgery. Plus, by that time, your stomach will be fully healed and you will be completely on solids. Enjoy the trip!

    Goal Met, Goal Set!

Congrats! I think you can get there!
  14. Who is your surgeon? Mine was Dr. Kuhn but I had my procedure done at Baylor Dallas.
  15. I would get the titration. Sleep apnea is not cured for all by the surgery.
  16. It's normal. Focus on getting 60-80 grams of protein and all your liquids.
  17. I have been extremely fortunate as well. I'm 9 days postop and haven't had any real pain at all and no nausea or vomiting at all, no problems getting protein or fluids in, etc. Only pain has been some soreness after pushing the walking up to 4 miles or so. I was out and around town 5 days post op for a few hours and was a little sore then too. I thank my lucky stars everyday so that it has gone so smoothly. I was super nervous about it beforehand.

    expected weight loss by group

Yeah, 45 pounds in 3 months is amazing!
  20. I like the insurance hoops. As much of a pain as they can be, one of the benefits to me was that it gave me time to really, really consider the decision I was making, go to some support groups, browse these forums, etc. Just my $0.02.
