    Pain?

Couldn't agree with Butter more. I took pain meds for 3 days and could have stopped at 2, but my thought was better safe than sorry. I was sore but after a week I was able to walk 4 miles at once at a slow pace (3 mph). We are lucky, we tend to have it easier when it comes to recovery. The worst part was the gas pain in my shoulder that started on day 4 and lasted until day 7 or 8. That pain in my left shoulder is the same feeling I get when I'm full now, two months post op. Not so much pain but similar feeling in same spot.

    Life post sleeve

Hunter, you could also look into compression shirts, like Under Armour. You could wear a looser shirt over it too. I am going to look into that since I'm at the weight where I told myself I would start running again (6'4", 300).

    Story of my life post-op

Grammy, your post reminded me that I'm a little behind on updating my profile, by about 60 pounds or so Which Tom Hanks movie? Captain Phillips or Mr. Banks? I loved Captain Phillips but haven't seen Mr. Banks yet.

    Catheter?

I didn't have one. I asked my doc before the surgery and he told me I wouldn't have one.

    Surgery Around Holidays?

That will be tough, but my advice is that once you wake up from the surgery, that PITA preop diet will feel like a million years ago.

    Cigars

I had one yesterday while watching the game with some friends. Just drank water, no booze for me for a while, based on my decision not anything the doc told me (never asked). I'm about 6 weeks out.
  7. My surgeon was Dr. Kuhn, who came highly recommended from a few doctors and friends. I wanted someone who would answer all my questions and not have billboards and ads all over town. He fit both of them and every time is met with him he was extremely patient. He also had done over 4500 of them. Also had to wait 6 weeks to meet him which made me think he wasn't running a slice and dice factory. I'm six weeks post op, have seen him 4 times now since February and couldn't be happier with my decision. Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who don't like him. No one bats 1.000. Go with someone you like and feel comfortable with. DFW area has what seems like 1,000 bariatric surgeons.
  8. Really, every surgeon has some level of complications. Just know that going in and look for one that had done thousands of procedures (like I believe Dr. Nick has) and someone that you like.

    Muscle Loss Sucks

Well, my doctor told me yesterday I could get up to 1,000 calories so I should be able to get more Protein in. Problem is that it is almost impossible for me to get anymore in at this point Today, I used the Omron fat % for the first time since a couple days before starting my two week preop diet (which was Protein drinks only). And between 9/25 and now I have lost about 60 pounds. Per the Omron, 13 of that is muscle. Sucks that about 25% of my weight loss is muscle, but I'm back at it hard and hopefully I can build it back up over the next couple months.
  10. My trainer did the calipers too and it was really close as well. He told me that you have to be well hydrated to get a good reading, but that's not too difficult these days.
  11. Are you all talking about the handheld one that looks like a video game controller! There's one at my gym that I like to use.

    Hungry Every Two Hours

Yeah, it is below that after exercise. I thought that it was more appropriate to not to go over the calorie goal then anything you burn working out was just icing on the cake. Maybe not though now that I think about it. FWIW, my doctor told me today that I would be fine eating up to 1,000 calories a day as that should still result in me losing 1 pound every two days (or so).

    Hungry Every Two Hours

That seems to be the norm. I'm six weeks out yesterday and have my vitamin blood work today with my doctor. I'm going to ask him how many calories I should be eating because my goal in MFP is 850 and it seems like it isn't difficult to get there with normal food, and that worries me. I'll share what he says, of course with the caveat that everyone should listen to their own doctor and not necessarily what mine says.

    Hungry Every Two Hours

Are you getting liquids in every day? Also, are you chewing your food and eating slowly? If not, you could be getting full quicker than you should with less quantity of food. But then it digests and you are empty again.

How Many Times Do You Go #2?

For the first couple weeks after surgery it was a once every 3-5 day thing, which is normal seeing you aren't eating anything. I'm 6 weeks now and it's about every day or two, depending on how much fiber I get through normal food and water I get in.
  16. My dad and I do that every year then when my sister comes home at Xmas we cook a thanksgiving meal. I cooked it for my dad and I once at thanksgiving and realized how much of a pain it is for just two people. With my sister there we can split the duties. So this year we are going to Season's 52. I saw they are doing a Thanksgiving there so I got us a reservation. Their food is already pretty tasty so I'm guessing it will be for thanksgiving as well. They so advertise that the 475 calories or less don't apply that day, but with a few ounces of turkey and a few bites of potatoes and stuffing, I'm sure I'll be under 475 still! And I'll be getting a piece of pie to go for a few hours after we eat
  17. I wouldn't wait until Wednesday, I'd call your doctor now. You paid them a lot for surgery and it's easy for them to answer this question over the phone. Heartburn is a very normal problem to have so they will have an answer.

Does Anyone Else Feel Like This..?

Jessy, I was similar to you when I had mine last month. I was told to wait until I get to solids and you'll really feel the restriction of the sleeve. I'm on solids now and everyone was right. I definitely feel it now!

Does Anyone Else Feel Like This..?

Likewise. I'm at the point where I've lost down to over the past few years and I can't help but think about that. Doesn't help that I appear to be in the beginning of another stall But there is so much success on these boards and that helps as well as a local support group I'm a part of.
  21. Are you on a PPI? I take Prilosec. The days I've forgotten it are the days that I've felt hungry all day. At times I feel hungry when I'm behind on my water consumption too. Then there's always when cues arise: sitting at home kinda bored, looking forward to a certain dish at a restaurant, etc. I just try to figure out what is causing it. It's tough and something I'm still learning to do. I'm hoping over time our minds will change a bit, but I bet we will deal with it at some level forever.
  22. 10/14 for me. I hit a 7-10 day stall about 10 days after surgery.

October Sleevers! How Much Have You Lost?

Sleeved on 10/14. 62 down since start of 2-week preop diet and 37 down since surgery date.
  24. I forgot to take it this morning and I've been hungry all day and had the most calories since I started preop. Coincidence? Who knows but I'm going to remember to take it tomorrow!
  25. Do they do alcohol tests? Are you worried about a nurse being drunk when you are in the hospital?
