  1. Please tell me I am not the only person out here that is having a horrible time with quitting smoking!!!....I have just reordered Chantix and pray that it works. My doctor said I had to quit or terrible things could happen with my lap band but she didn't say what they were. Does anyone know? I know the health risks of smoking and that I need to quit. After 40 years of smoking it is not easy.

    Smoking!!!

Julie you are an inspiration! You have touched me in a way that prompts me to REALLY quit. I can relate. Thank you. I just keep kidding myself and the doctor. I have 2 weeks of Chantix left.......I am really going to quit!

    Smoking!!!

I still have not completely quit. I have cut back a great deal. It is the only thing I lie about to my doctor. I am still on Chantix. I have had 3 fills. 5cc-2cc=1/2 cc. The doctor said if I didn't completely quit her would give me no further fills. I have lost every month 57 lbs since Sept. 4th. I would dearly love to stop the smoking completely.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

What a inspiration! I had surgery in Sept. I have lost between 45-50 pounds. I am still using my walker but I have also started to use my cane for short distances( outdoors). My husband says I am walking more upright and I can tell in smalls ways I am doing better. I have a long way to go but like you..Dee.. the lapband has been the easiest thing I have ever done. I have had absolutely NO problems or discomfort. I feel so fortunate and I do not want to mess up this chance. Thank you for your imput

A place for bandsters in their 60's

OK, this is the most inspriational message I have read so far. I can totally relate to what you are saying........THANK YOU. I was banded on Sept 3rd. The 17th of this month I will have my first fill. I can get around the house OK. I sit on a stool to cook. When I leave the house I use a walker and I only shop in stores that have a motorized shopping cart. My husband (bless his heart) does the laundry. You truly have inspired me. My wish is to be able to get around easier and without the walker and to be able to do more around the house. God bless you Haffdime

    Any September Banders?

I so agree with you. I was banded on the 3rd. I NEVER had real pain. I was sore like you had done too many sit ups. It has been so easy so far.

    Any September Banders?

Congratulations! You will do great. This was the easiest surgery I have ever had. Haffdime
  11. BamBam,

I had my surgery yesterday. Because I use a c-pap breathing machine they kept me overnight. I am sore but not a whole lot of pain. My port hurts the most. The doctor said it would. I thought I would have some sort of sensation where they placed the band. But I don't. Swallowing is going fine. All I have wanted to do today is sleep and that is where I am going now......to bed..

    Will keep you posted.

  12. Hi, I am from the Des Moines area. After several frustrating months I believe I have jumped through all the hoops. I was denied by my insurance company and we appealed. The approval letter came today! I am so excited. I don't believe my knees can carry this old body much longer. I just found this site tonight and have a feeling I will be spending my fair share of time on it. It really helps to see what other people are going through. Good Luck to all of us!

    I just got approved!

Lets keep in contact Bambam. It is a long process. We a lady I work with who has had gastric bypass told me it would take 6 months or better I thought she was crazy. She was right. It is quite a process. Just take it as it comes. Are you coming to Des Moines for the meeting? It will overwhelm you also but you will come away with lots of questions answered. My surgery is next Wednesday. I am so anxious. Let me know how you are doing. Take care

    time off

Nance, I have not had my surgery yet. I have to go to the group meeting on Aug 2nd and then I can get my surgery date. I am 59 and have a lot of problems with my knees and legs. I use a walker when out and about. I am so anxious to know if some of this will ease as I lose some of this weight. Do you have any input on this subject? Thanks Haffdime

    I just got approved!

I just got my approval on Friday. I will go to the group meeting on Aug. 2nd. That is my last hoop I need to jump through. I will then meet with my doctor for my surgery date to information on my 2 week pre op diet. My doctor is Dr LeMasters. She is great. Her father fought obesity and all the problems it creates all his life. She has a real tenderness and understanding of the issue. My insurance is BC/BS Alliance Select. They denied me the first time. I was shocked. I have well over 150 lbs to lose. I had all of my tests and all of the doctors said I would be a great subject for the surgery. The insurance company denied me stating:"Medically not necessary" Dr LeMasters sent a teriffic appeal letter and in about 3 weeks we got our reply. I know I will nerver win a beauty contest but I can hardly wait to be (hopefully) walk without my walker. Keep in touch! Your letter will arrive.
