Antidepressants not working after my gastric sleeve surgery
rensterness replied to Gracie39's topic in Rants & Raves
Effexor was on a list of meds of meds from my doctors office that patients were not allowed to take after sleeve or bypass to to absorption. I was not on it, but I do remember it being on the list as well as being mentioned in my local support group. An effective med that seems to really work and be more and more popular is called Pristiq. Check it out -
13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico
rensterness replied to slcmommy5's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Wishing you and your daughter the best of luck in finding a doctor and with results. I was sleeved in NY so I don't have much thoughts of Mexico but hear A LOT about Dr.Alverez. Keep you chin up and ignore all the critical comments and the people that don't know how to respectfully answer your question. Best of luck to you! -
13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico
rensterness replied to slcmommy5's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I guess you don't know how to answer someone's question on a forum. It's her daughter and her decision. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but when someone starts a forum they shouldn't feel I welcomed by people such as yourself. She's doing what SHE FEELS IS BEST FOR HER DAUGHTER. Her question wasn't 'would you have weight loss surgery for your daughter?' -
Wearing Jeans after surgery?
rensterness replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Comfortably? A month for me personally. When my friend had hers I bought her pajama jeans and she LOVED them! I got them at Rite Aide and they can be gotten pretty much anywhere. They looked great on her and she was able to wear them to work and be comfortable. Was def worth the purchase. I go to a local support group for bariatric surgery, and as a pre op gift to people I am close to I get them a pair and they have all loved them and benifitted from them! Hope this helped :-) -

5 Months Post Op, Revision Needed
rensterness replied to rensterness's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Sue, I have to get a sleeve to bypass revision, it will be fixing the stomach, as well as doing a partial bypass. They don't do a full bypass with the rerouting of all the organs they would for a full bypass, but partial. I was very much not for the bypass, that's why I had the sleeve, so this takes an emotional toll on me even more so because at this point I really don't have a say or option. I'm just trying to maintain a positive attitude with the 'everything happens for a reason' attitude. It will be laparoscopic, and they said they will try to go into the incisions from when I had the sleeve (I really pushed that one), but I may have an extra on or two. Because of the way this one is done it is unlikely. I am very happy with the healing of my scars from the sleeve as they are pretty much non existant. My recovery will be a couple to few days in the hospital, three day prior liquid diet (only had to do a day for the sleeve), as well as doing post op diet as if I was getting the full bypass. I was made aware this surgery has only been done once by my facility which draws extra concern and anxiousness, as this is a newer procedure. The one person that has had it has had an great out come. -
5 Months Post Op, Revision Needed

Thanks! Yes, I consider myself lucky that it was figured out now and not further down the road when it led to more complications. I honestly thought the sensativity was normal, as part of adjusting my new stomach to foods. A little to sensative though it turned out. Thanks for the well wishes and I will keep update -
ITS OFFICIAL, IM APPROVED!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! -
Thanks Cherrie! Wish you were closer to! Texting everyday just isn't the same as seeing each other and being able to hang out. Although we text like we have been friends for years on end! Lol. This surgery was meant to happen for a reason, whatever the reason it, there is one and I accept it. We go through things in life for a purpose, and we can choose to weaken from it n let it control us, or kick it in the ads and make ourselves stronger, and stronger I will be :-) Maybe a bit anxious but I'm gonna put my fist up and prepare for the battle!! Watch out

New - sleeve with autoimmune disorders
rensterness replied to new.life.2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! First off congratulations on your decision to have weight loss surgery! I am a 38 year old male with Lupus and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome, both autoimmune diseases. I am now give months post op and feel amazing when it comes to the difference in my Lupus and APABS. My muscles feel better, I walk better, just feel better in general. Yes, I still have a low immune system and get sick, but my everyday life has really changed from the decision to have the surgery. I feel 'normal' for the first time in my life, and boy does it feel amazing! Hope this helped a bit and hope you keep us updated -
What a way to finally meet :-) lol. Sounds good to me! Thanks for the faith :-)

Anxiety and getting sleeved
rensterness replied to ShelleyHolt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They did a full Endoscopy yesterday in the main OR and my stomach is totally twisted and kinked, in order to fix is revision is required. This is VERY UNCOMMON and happens in less then .02 % of sleeve patients. :/ I just happened to be in that lucky percent, ugh OMG..... that scares me so much. Im so sorry to hear that your stomach twisted. I havent been sleeved yet but its things like that that worry me so much because I used t have the lap band and i was told that the chance the band would slip is very low, like 1-3% well guess what? mine slipped, i had another surgery to fix it and it slipped again. I was told they cannot say why it slipped, sometimes they just dont know BUT that it can be because I lost weight fairly fast and sometimes things shift inside and things can happen. So Im super worried that now my stomach will twist!!! ugh...... im scared Don't be, the chances are EXTREAMLY rare. Also realize I lost over a hundred pounds in less then five months which is really quick weight loss, and that weight loss effected my stomach twisting. The chances of this happening are so rare it's not even funny, especially in a women since women lose slower then men. So don't stress it -

NO rerouting the small intestine!!! That was the part that totally freaked me out! So I'm a bit relieved on that one. Who knows what they may need to do once in there, so that scares me a bit!! -

Revision to partial bypass, plus some 'work' :/ I was very much against the bypass originally, no offense to anyone but it just wasn't my idea surgery. They will do the revision and repairing the stomach 'link' and twist -

Oh Kyle! I hate to hear this! I'm so sorry you have to, once again, go through surgery. What is the reason for the revision? I'll definitely be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way for a smooth and speedy recovery. You already know you'd better keep me updated!! I'll be worrying about you until I hear back from you! Oh how your anxiety must be going nuts right now! Just plz try to stay calm and don't miss a dose of your meds! I set alarms for mine so I have a consistent level of Ativan in my system at all times. We both know how traumatic attacks can be. I was under the impression that your sleeve was doing great, what happened? What symptoms did you get? My symptoms were limited, which is why I had no clue that there was a serious problem. I'm a little more sensative to foods and drinks then I should be, but truthfully I didn't think it was that uncommon for it to happen since your body changes after surgery along with taste buds and so on. My sleeve has been very good to me and the sensativity has increased lately and that's why they did a full Endoscopy. Turns out that my stomach twisted within the last month. When you lose a lot of weight so quickly it can happen and I lost over a hundred pounds in less the five months so that's what they say the cause was. I still have zero regrets, although now my anxiety is killing me lol. I am sure to take my 2mg of Xanex three times a day faithfully!!! -

Hey Shell! :-) Wanted to say hello and once again see how you were! I myself and doing so so. I have to have another surgery done, and it will be this upcoming Tuesday. Not expected, but needed. Unfortunately I need to have a sleeve revision, so Tuesday it is. Because this was so unplanned and unexpected, my nerves are shot but the Xanex is loving me! Lol. The doctors know the go to town Tuesday with IV Ativan as soon as I get there lol. I've also been assured I will wake up with a lovely little morhpine button lol. I figured I would vent a little instead of letting it build up, building up is never good! How are things with you? -

Hi Mary! It will be billed to my insurance AFTER the surgery is done. It is medically required so I am hoping they will, if not I'm sure they will cover at least 80% of it, and if that's the case that will leave me with a bill after they cover the 80% of about $3,000. It's needed so have to do what I have to do!
