What Apps do you use to track your daily intake etc?
Lia M posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! Just doing some research, I really need to track what I put in my mouth! I've been slacking, I see lots of different choices. Does anyone have a favorite Iphone app they use? -
First off, I am very blessed and I am almost at 60 lost, which I would never have done without the sleeve. Secondly, no need to bash me after this, as I know, that I'm not doing all that I can do to lose weight. I am not asking to be told what to do or not to do.......Just reaching out for some ideas when others have been in this spot as I am sure I am not the only one. With that being said, how do you combat old habits? I can eat anything, I have no issues, and I'm starting to slowly work my way into my cracker habit, my not drinking Water etc. For those who really seem to have a handle on this. Do you have anything that you do that seems to help you through those old habit times? Right now, instead of munching I'm walking around the building at work. I'm hoping that helps distract my mind. I can't seem to quite get the system down. This was a life changing surgery, and an expensive one. I can't imagine how I'll feel if I cannot grasp a hold on this and make it work. My heart is in the race, my mind isn't. It's like I'm on a road, and I know how to get to where I need to go. I know which path to take, and yet I choose the wrong one... Do any of you see a counselor on a regular basis to help with getting your head in the game?

Struggling, Disappointed with me.
Lia M replied to Lia M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys, truly. It is helpful! I just took a long break at work, walked to the store and bought veggie munchies, so I'll stay away from the crackers at work. I'm also going to call around for a Nut and counselor. My surgeon is wonderful, he truly is, but I've never met with a Nut and I think that may help me to. Who knows! Thanks again all of you. -
I'd love some buddies........I am in Tucson, was sleeved in April and losing slowly!
-
Mine is always low due to Polycystic Ovarian syndrome. My surgeon put me on 20,000 a day for a month, it came up. Now I am at 10,000 a day. You can overdose on it, so definitely check with the doc

How long was everyone out of work?
Lia M replied to rredrruby87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to work in a week, but I had a few short days when I got back due to just being tired. My surgeon wasn't concerned with the healing as much as he was with the drinking and getting protein in. We tend to forget when we are distracted. So, I promised him I would make sure I did what I was supposed to, and went back to work. -

This is awesome! Thanks! It looks like a blast! -
I am a self pay, most will work with you. I would talk to your prospective surgeons office. They hooked me up with some folks, I also did a partial loan through my credit union, it was way lower interest.

Post op question about coffee
Lia M replied to McButterpants's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have coffee everyday, even after surgery I did decaf for awhile. Now 5 months later I'm on the good stuff. I think it's mostly because they worry about you dehydrating. I never drink soda anymore. Just water with protein, Skim Milk and Coffee with my sugar free creamer. I've not had any issues at all. -
Forceful vomiting with the sleeve
Lia M replied to Superfluous's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worried about blowing out staples, as I threw up quite a bit for the first two days. Due to medications and such, I always get sick after surgery. My surgeon just laughed a bit and he said he "ties good knots". You won't have much to toss up, so even if you are a violent tosser upper...you don't have a lot to toss and you may not toss at all. A lot of people don't. I only got sick one other time, because I ate too fast and even then it's not like a flu bug toss. I think it's more like the door is closed so the food is making it's way back out..It almost feels like it's from your chest in a weird way. I would just be up front with the concerns, they have medications to help with the nausea, maybe he/she can give you a bit more than most. -
Well, I had my surgery in April, and I've just been losing slowly. I'm losing, but I'm definitely not one of these folks that it's falling from. I've made myself almost ill with the idea of the plane. I've actually been on a plane when I was bigger, but even at the size and weight I am now. I know I'm pushing limits. I think I've spent over $200 bucks in "shapers" seeing if I can pull myself in an inch or two. I have my own extender........but this is for work so I will be mortified and looked down upon if for some reason they don't let me fly and I miss this meeting Monday morning. I was even willing to purchase a second seat on my own dime, but they were sold out! First class would be 3k to upgrade. I am looking forward to the day, though the way I have been feeling, not sure that day will EVER come. That I won't worry anymore. I just wish it would have been going faster, but apparently my body is going to do what it wants to do. It's funny how so many things really mentally mess with you. "Will this chair hold me?", "Will I fit into a booth?"...........

Frustrated and a little embarrassed
Lia M commented on judysbabies's blog entry in judysbabies' Blog
I'm at 5 months and as of today 55 pounds gone. I am losing way slowly too. I think part of it for me anyway, is I am not 20 something anymore. I post menopausal, and have PCOS. I think it's just the cards I've been dealt. I am more frustrated that I was...I am happy to have the 55 gone, as I wouldnt have done that in a year without the surgery.......but yeah......it's not always easy coming here and watching those posts of 100 pounds gone 6 months! The good person in me is happy for those who are having that sort of success, but the crappy person in me is shooting darts from my eyes and telling me to go eat a brownie! grins -
Hi All! Just wanted to see how everyone is doing! I'm blessed with very few complications, I feel like it is slow going but at least it's going! Started back to the gym this past weekend. My surgery was April 10th, and I was 340 pounds. Today I weighed in at 299. If there is one thing I miss about my old life, it's guzzling a big ole glass of tea. I live in Arizona, and I'll do some things outside and just want a glass of Ice Tea and I don't want to sip the darned thing! I guess if that's all that I miss I'm doing good!

I've been cruising along, not losing at a rapid rate, but doing pretty good and I'm content with that. The last two weeks, suddenly things are changing for me. I feel hunger almost all the time and I can eat all the time. I eat less at a time, but I can eat all darned day. I'm craving things again, and I'm really tired. I'm not sleeping well, and on that note I've never been a great sleeper but it's gotten worse, just recently. I get in my Protein, always between 80 and 100 grams and most of this is adding protein to Water so I get my liquids in. I had my blood work done about a month ago and my Vitamins are good, everything looked great. I am going to attempt to do an all liquid thing for the next couple days, maybe "reset" myself. I was just curious if this is a normal occurrence at this time? It just seems really to have gone extreme. I went from not really being hungry and just doing my thing to wanting to chew my arm off. I need to work out, but honestly I am so tired that I can barely move by the time I get home from work. Working out is never going to be first choice for me, but I literally want to fall asleep behind the wheel as I'm driving home!

I drink a cup of coffee everyday My surgeon wasn't worried about the caffeine factor as long as you got your water in. It's a diuretic, so you have to watch the hydration!

Pre-VSG lack of support from parents
Lia M replied to jenRRT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm amazingly lucky because my parents support everything. Of course, I think that's one of the reasons I got as big as I did! My parents supported my eating too! In all seriousness, my mom who is truly my best friend said to me that the surgery scares her, and she just decided that the least amount she knew about it the better for her. Which shocked me, I am pretty open about pretty much everything but I realized I told her things that didn't scare me at all, but they did her. She was with me after the surgery, and stayed with me for a couple of nights while I was pretty sick from the anesthesia. I don't know if your parents are like this at all, but maybe they are just scared for you. In the end, you have to do what is best for you, and the health of your family which you are a part of. I wish you the best of luck and when you are moving better, feeling better, chasing your kids better......that's all the support you'll truly need. -
I can all of a sudden eat more at 5 wks post op...Im scared....
Lia M replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know for me it depends on the day. Some days, I am hungry and I eat all day. I can get down quite a bit, especially if I really chew up my food! No matter what, I've learned that in the end it is still up to you. You will have to push that plate away, you will have to say no to certain things. The surgery helps with that, but like they say, "its a tool" they gave us a smaller stomach but it's still in the same person. Just keep on going, and hey! you did great...you made yourself avoid eating another thing. That's control! Kudos! -
I love love love this stuff! I live on it! My favs are roadside lemonade and wild grape......helps me get Water in! Then sometimes I'll mix the chocolate truffle in with a vanilla muscle milk, banana for a nice 40 grams of Protein shake! I get mine from Amazon, and they have a program that saves you a few dollars if you get auto monthly delivery. I think they break it down by 1/4 scoops so the caloric intake looks better........only 25 calories a serving! When yeah, most of us use an entire scoop and that makes it 100 calories lol......Marketing marketing........

Anyone else, come here first to update your ticker when you've weighed in and lost weight? Just giddy........! It would have taken me years of different diets, frustration, depression to get 52 pounds off...and most likely I wouldn't have done it, I would be continually growing and not shrinking...... Who ever thought I'd be excited to get back into my *fat* jeans! I am! When I outgrew those......talk about.....depression.......but I am now back into them and I can breath and everything when I put them on! In her best Beyonce impression, "Who runs the world?!" ....."Sleevers!"

Start of new chapter in my life!
Lia M replied to trillian135's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yup, complication free for me as well! I did have some nausea the first two days. Honestly though I think that was more because I don't handle anesthesia well. I've gotten sick after every surgery I've ever had. I actually accused my doc of not doing anything! He just laughed and said..."Trust me, you'll will have signs that I did"..So, my bloodwork is just about perfect...cholesterol...perfect...vitamins..perfect...blood pressure...perfect...lost 52 pounds....perfect...and eat too much....oh I so feel it... So, the last appointment I had, "I said ok ok, so you DID do the surgery" I'm in Arizona as well, I didn't use Dr. Burpee, but I've heard good stuff about him and went to a seminar or two with him involved. -
Yeah, I agree with the above. That is a pretty mild food to have. Every week I was able to move up a level of food after post op. The pain could be gas, I know I get the burps when I eat something that I picture my tummy grinding to a pulp.

Good for you! I had to get two loans to cover the 18,000 surgery. I made a couple of payments, then applied for a no interest credit card ( for 18 months ) and paid of the highest interest loan with it. The saddest part...two months later my company changed insurances and now it would have been covered..but as I make that payment per month..it reminds me of what I did and I have not one regret. I am glad your gma in law apologized..many don't understand why we just can't do it ourselves..be disciplined. Heck, I think that about myself too...but...well...I can't do it alone. I needed this tool. I wish you the best of luck!

My 21st is in a couple weeks, and im 3 weeks postop. Whats the general consensus on alcohol, here?
Lia M replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to speak with your doctor. I'm four months out and I haven't had any alcohol or soda. I've heard the carbonation is a killer. It's tough since it's your 21st! It's also a lot of empty calories.....but I would definitely ask. A nights worth of fun isn't worth hurting yourself! Happy Birthday! -
Hair Loss - Holy Moly!
Lia M replied to ChristineR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same, I am four months out as well and mine started about a month ago and I also got my hair cut short. I use Bosely products, and take 10,000 mg of Biotin with keratin. From what I've heard, is everyone is different but it seems like most say it starts to change around 6 months. I think as we start to lose less rapidly it starts to taper off. At least I hope. My hair was thinning to begin with so..it hasn't been fun! -
Hi Jeanie S !! Do a search for Nectar protein. I get mine from Amazon. They have a multitude of flavors. My Favorite for water are the grape and lemonade. For something to add to milk or I add it to vanilla muscle milk ( lactose free ) is chocolate truffle. It's just been a lifesaver for me!
