I can eat anything without issue at this point and I'm 3 months out. I've had pizza once and I had one slice and put the rest away right away. I could have eaten more. I'm trying to think like Jada Pinkett...I read an article somewhere that she doesn't eat for fun, or enjoyment. It's for nourishment only. I don't think I'll ever be that way...but like what was said above, I do look at things for it's value in Protein more than anything else. So far, my body has stopped me from eating certain things. I don't reject anything, so it's really mind over matter for me.

Only losing 50 pounds in 7 months, is that too little of a weight loss?
Lia M replied to artisticbritt77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yeah, PCOS is a tough nugget. Being insulin resistant, we process carbs and foods a bit differently to say the least and I have the lovely side affects of thinning hair ( which is more so now with the surgery ) and I carry a good amount of weight around my belly. We can lose it though =) Just is a little more work, I suppose! Every little bit we lose though helps with the symptoms! -

50 pounds! That's FANTASTIC! Think about it this way...7 pounds a month...in ten months.......SEVENTY Pounds......I'm a slow loser in comparison to some here, partly because I do eat carbs, had a hysterectomy ( so menopausal) and have PCOS. There are so many factors in your weight loss journey. Hang in there, and try different things. Only have carbs in the morning, eat more protein, do more cardio. Just don't lose sight that you have lost 50...That is nothing to sniff at! -
I felt the same way! I actually told my surgeon that I'm not sure he sleeved me! Of course we laughed about it and he said there will be times that I "definitely" will know that I am sleeved. I noticed with me, that some days I can eat more than other days. I feel pretty normal though, and I know if I eat too much or too fast, I get this pain/cramp that lasts a second and then goes away. I've learned if I eat past that..I'll throw up or just feel crappy. So, it's all a learning process. We are all different. I can easily eat an egg, beef, anything really. I've had no issues with anything at all. Which, is a blessing and a curse. Hang in there...One thing that I've tried to do here, is not read so much on how much people eat or have lost. It's only human to compare and go "why can I eat so much, why haven't I lost as much, what am I doing wrong?" Focus on what you are doing and you'll be great!

I see this topic a lot on here. I'm a slow loser too, but I am losing. Right now everything is swollen, freaking out, having a WTH party inside of you. I brought up my slow progress to my surgeon and he said, "You worry too much about the numbers...but if you want to play the numbers game..if you lost 10 pounds a month, thats ONE HUNDRED pounds in less than a year..." then he looked at me and said, "If you didn't have the surgery...Think you'd have lost half that in a year?" I think mentally it's our own mind messing with us, eating the way we do now you'd think we'd lose 20 pounds a day lol....but...hang in there =) Sounds like you are doing fantasic...

Good for you, the risks are just as high for your health if you don't do anything at all. I am sorry to hear about your loss, but I do look forward to hearing about your weight loss and I'm sure your Uncle would love knowing he affected you in this positive way!

Congrats! It's truly awesome. I am on the slow loser side of things..but emotionally to feel in control! WOW! Keep us informed!

I think im on a stall already

You are about three weeks out, depending on what your doctor suggests, I was on puree type food then. So, refried beans were a nice go to for me. Cottage cheese has a ton of protein. Or try getting protein power unflavored. It all has somewhat of a flavor, but I put some in everything. Soups, Coffee , Cream of Wheat. -
Talk me OFF my eating ledge! Help? :-)
Lia M replied to megansmommy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Habits are hard, if we were good at breaking habits most likely we wouldn't need the surgery in the first place. You know what helped me a lot? Sugar free popcicles. It counted as liquid which helped me with that intake and it took some time to finish it so it kept my mouth busy. I'm bad with trigger foods. Some things I just cant have near me. At all. If cheese is yours, get it out of the house. I don't know if it will help or not, but don't think of it as you are doing your normal "cheating" as well did on diets. This is a medical thing, and you don't want to risk any chance that you are damaging anything. For some reason things got easier for me after two weeks or so. At first I craved things, I wasn't hungry just wanted comfort food because I didn't feel good. It went away for me though in time. Perhaps call your doc and tell him/her about your struggles and see if he/she has any ideas Hang in there......as someone told me last week when I was downing goldfish crackers like a machine......YOU CAN DO THIS! -
I paid 18,000 in Arizona for the sleeve...Two different loans to cover it.

I think there are lots of factors...I have PCOS, and that makes it a bit tough as well. Im at three months and I've lost 39. Some, are way beyond that. The biggest thing is...6 pounds! In 10 months thats 60 pounds! I don't know about you, but I know I can gain 60 in 10 months, but I sure as heck couldn't lose it before the surgery. Things move around too, I noticed that even though I've been the weight I am now before, and have the clothes from that time. The clothes are fitting loser. So, there are inches moving around too. You are also, still healing. Your body is freaking out. Hang in there!

Not Craving Food, but Dreaming About It?
Lia M replied to devichan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahahaha, I was so like that too! I would wake up feeling like I blew it all! The dreams have stopped though, I'm three months out. Nothing like dancing doritos in your head! -
KY soon to be sleever
Lia M replied to sheri_cummings's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck to you! I have PCOS as well, and it definitely makes weight loss slow and hard. I am 42, and it is the best thing I've ever done. I've lost 39 in three months. Not as fast as some, but heck I couldn't lose that before in YEARS...So, Gotta look at that! You are taking control, so good for you. I look at it, like I was driving way too fast with really bad brakes. I couldn't stop, I totally lost control. The surgery is like someone tossing nails in the road. Saying, "HEY! knock it off" so, I stopped. Now, I am traveling at a slower pace...if I try to speed up again, I get a nail or two as a reminder! So, as the Capt Stubing of the Love Boat would say, "Love, exciting and new Come Aboard. We're expecting you. Love, life's sweetest reward. Let it flow, it floats back to you." Way to love yourself! -
Bad Habits Creeping Back Up WAY to soon! PCOS
Lia M posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I had the sleeve on April 10th of this year. Immediately, I lost a ton of course being on a liquid diet and I think that my stomach itself weighed a ton! *grins*..Anyway, I can eat anything, no problem......but there it is....a problem. I started nibbling on gold fish crackers, it went from a few, to a bag..I am only 10 weeks out and other than my stomach hurting if I eat to fast or too much ( which rarely ever happens ), I can literally eat anything. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and I know that affects things as well, but honestly I just finished my second month and I have lost 35 pounds. However, I lost 25 of that my first week. So, I am losing very slowly, and I know I'm getting too many carbs and things in. I have been great as far as I haven't had any fast food, no chocolate, no chips...( all were a downfall of mine ) but obviously I am still eating enough to hamper the weight loss. I also over the past week especially have felt hunger for the first time since the surgery. I was never hungry before, now..I am. It worries me, as obviously I had control issues to begin with...so that doesn't go away and I'm already fighting with myself. You know the head story...you wake up and think to yourself, "no crackers today" then as you are eating the crackers you go, "well thats ok, just have a protien shake for dinner and nothing else", then as you are eating dinner you go, "Well there is always tomorrow"... I've done all the tricks...think of where you'll be..think of how hard you've worked...I even think about how much I paid as insurance didn't cover it. I surely don't want to be the only person ever to have this not be successful for them...I mean if you cut out 80% of my stomach and I still can't make it work! WTH! right? What have you done to help get over hurdles like this? Have any of you tried any replacement foods to maybe get that munching habit satisified without taking in the calories and carbs? Funniest thing is, everyone thinks I have amazing control.....Seriously......have they met me!? -
Bad Habits Creeping Back Up WAY to soon! PCOS
Lia M replied to Lia M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, strangely enough I feel better. I tossed the bag of goldfish, and grabbed my water. Not buying them is definitely the answer, of course I in my wisdom thought, "I can handle these little cute crackers!" apparently not! Grins.......but thanks all, very encouraging and your right..."I GOT THIS" -
This is a hard subject for me, in fact I put off surgery for almost 10 years because of it. I have thinning hair anyway because of PCOS. You can see my scalp as it is. So, losing it, terrifies me but I got to the point that if I am in the ground, does it matter what I had on my head? Luckily for most it will grow back and you'd never know you had an issue. For me, I don't know if it will grow back and even if it does, it was thinning to begin with. It is very hard, but try not to focus on it. Just know it's like anything else, it will work itself out. Like everyone here says, protien protien protien. I try to get in at least 80 grams a day.

There has got to be a better way
Lia M replied to tomato pie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually make this way yummy shake in the morning....I take a premade container ( 11 oz ) of muscle milk, a scoop of unflavored protien powder, a banana, 1/2 cup of milk and either blueberries or cherries...The entire thing...has around 45 grams of protien. I sip on it all morning. So, I already have half my intake by lunch. Helps me get a good start anyway. A lot of Kashi Cereal has mega protien as well, add milk and your getting 15 grams of protien with that..
